Indemnity and all that (1 Viewer)

Any thoughts on what next can be done after the statement?
Obviously some progress was made with local media attention but it’s now all gone pretty silent
I know there are rumours regarding a return but I don’t really see any substance - it requires a radical change from wasps and there’s no evidence they have made any actual movement yet in that direction at all.
I know some are trying to get the trust to respond on social media but there is radio silence there and actual silence from the radio
I have no radical answers here but as it’s fell off the local agenda is there any ideas on next steps?

It certainly touched a nerve and got people worried so I guess it should be chased up.

which is why I think it's gone silent, between this and the Henley carry on I don't think the usual look what sisu did/look how great wasps are offensive was going to cut it so they've opted to say nothing.

Needs keeping in the limelight for sure but what ? Meaningful action perhaps, but that won’t happen without meaningful face to face meetings/gatherings it could never be arranged or achieved just through a website.
We are supposedly the City of Culture this year so is there a handle there perhaps ? will MPs get more more involved ? have they been asked ? would their involvement be welcomed ? We have two new ones in Coventry now one Zarah Sultana seems quiet fiesty there’s others in the locality and this isn’t political. We are definitely entering squeaky bum time with this ground situation, no new ground or even land identified to build one, nothing yet from the EU got no Euro MP now to ask there anyway I don’t see an answer from the EU either way a solution anyway. I’m not sure STA will be welcoming again next season, if we get to the championship for example there could be larger crowds with a lot of larger away followings the locals might object, what happens if they do. I put this ground issue 50/50 between sisu and Wasps needs movement from both imo.

I have been a little ignorant to this issue (life etc) & what has been happening, so apologies.

But seems to me that ignorance remains the issue. Even if you look at Wasps forums they are totally unaware of anything- hardly anyone knows about the indemnity. Pretty much everyone still thinks that its all down to SISU's intransigence and that we're just getting our just desserts.

May seem extreme but If you have a big fire you need a big bucket to put it out- as Magwitch suggests the City of Culture has to be used as a platform. I don't think having loads of negative publicity around what Wasps are doing would sit well with anyone in authority when the eyes of the country are on us- for me its a total farce for Coventry to even be the 'City of Culture' when a London club has forced out a local club and are holding us to ransom. It would be good to make absolutely sure that everyone knows that that while these comedians are celebrating "local culture", an organisation that has been at the heart of "local culture" for 137 years has been royally shafted in favour of an organisation that historically were based in London, and who are busily removing local amenities for local people.

Needs to just bypass the joke of a 'Trust', who are an embarrassment- but we do have the perfect platform just around the corner to make sure that everyone knows what our own council & an outside club have done, right at the very time they are building up to pretending they're "celebrating local culture".

Maybe I'm missing the point but there is a big story here, & one thing I do know for sure is that people in the club & the council read things on here- maybe its time to let them know that this is not going away, and the upcoming biggest advertisement for the city will also be used as an advertisement for the fact that the council don't actually care about "local culture" as much as they'd like the country to believe.

Did they ever start that 'THANK YOU' banner for the Birmingham game? Was wondering if it can be recycled so it says 'WHAT ABOUT THE INDEMNITY, YOU BASTARDS?' for the Sunderland game.

Media/Social Media bombing.

Almost 370 of us put our name to the statement if enough of us keep up a bombing campaign on CWR phone in’s, CWR social media pages, CT social media pages, CT comment sections on any story to do with Wasps, CCC or CCFC, if every Friday night (leave post match phone in’s about the match) dozens are ringing, texting and emailing in highlighting the points of the statement week in week out it will keep it in the media.

Not sure you'd want to bring it into a match situation, and Sunderland are not exactly going to be sympathetic, whereas making other clubs aware would be a good thing- I think the general idea is good though.

One thing we do know is that although I greatly admire the work done so far, it has not worked in raising awareness, and we also know very clearly that certain people who claim to "represent" the City of Coventry and who claim to "report" on local issues actually don't care. They are liars if they now go around saying they are hyping up local culture, and that needs to be called out. I think it is time to make sure that a much wider audience understands exactly how much they promote local culture when it comes to the football club that bears the city's name, that has been a focal point of the lives of hundreds of thousands of local people for well over a century. Very soon we have a big chance to let a lot of people know what is going on and how the council has turned its back on its football club, while harping on about great local initiatives.

This is what Wasps think of it all:

"Any and all profit gets creamed off and sent to a tax haven. They add nothing to the city. They are a cancer, taking and taking and taking until there’s nothing left."

"Wasps have bent over backwards to accommodate the football club only to have it continually thrown back in their face. Don't understand the constant stream of people connected to CCFC who just say they want to be back at the Ricoh as if they had no idea why the current situation arose."

Ignorance is the first enemy here.

As RoS has said big fires need big buckets, and big buckets need big people to use them, without big names publicly in our corner we are stuffed to be honest. In my opinion this needs some sort of committee forming, meeting, expressing views and ideas and moving from there, trust have theirs nothing to stop another one forming. Time is moving on.

As I don't live in the area I'm probably a bit behind on when local media is doing stuff. It would be useful if things that need us to bomb are posted on here.

Please be assured that your actions as a forum have had a huge impact and not just short term local media interest.

Rupert Lowe and Stuart Linell are coming back to me on whether the Eu complaint can be kicked into the long grass. I think it’s clear it can’t be once it’s been raised. I’m also pretty sure that they think I’ve maybe forgotten it. Stuart has been really helpful with our statement and assisting with getting the club to take the safety issue from the cup game seriously.

Also Phil Upton and Simon Gilbert were pretty clear about wasps throwing us out and that local media shouldn’t make misleading statements and the indemnity clause appears to be quite a sticking point

The main problem here is the non disclosure agreement that means parties aren’t really willing to talk on the record about anything.

One of the parties I’ve spoken to refused permission for me to even say the conversation took place which was made all the more bizarre in that they kept implying certain things and not answering other questions because of the NDA. I understand them thinking who the fuck does he think he is of course.

My own timescale for a public update is the start of March.

Also I’m getting the impression that most on here want to return at the start of next season not before or am I wrong in this?

What are you up to at the moment Pete, CJ mentions you're in discussions about a joint statement?

Because CWR/CT love the London Wasps.
If you were loaded the best way to turn around local media is to become a bigger advertiser and threaten to pull out as you disagree with their stance on Wasps.

In fact, anybody know how much a full page ad about the indemnity would cost and if there is any chance they'd publish it?

Which is the point about local media and the Trust actually acknowledging the indemnity stuff and the situation? Why aren't they keen?

I can only imagine that the local media are afraid of the NDA, and the Trust I see as puppets, they are given snippets to make them feel important and that buys their silence. They are the quislings of CCFC.

surely, it hangs on promotion? I very much doubt Wasps are stupid enough to refuse us coming back if we were in the championship. The revenue on match days will be massive.
Maybe by then, the EU complaint will return its findings. I do think we will be at the Ricoh next season,. The real question is how much extra revenue will they allow us to share.

I don't mind at all- this is not forum silliness about superfans & stuff like that, this is "real". I genuinely don't think I am being overdramatic by saying that the very existence of the club is at stake here.

I'm not sure about this- it would sure help to heap exposure on them but does the extra money from promotion pay the indemnity?

A lot of trust also needs to be built up with people 'in the know'. We are not bound by NDAs, but any potential source would be, and that is not a nice place to be.

If the Commission ruled completely against CCC (their worst case scenario) then promotion wouldn't cover it. It's around 20 million (difference in the amount of 2 valuations) plus interest. Hence the reason SISU, CCFC wouldn't give an indemnity.

He’s a member of the sky blues trust board. Good man who has a long history of supporting the club. Reasonable in his interactions on here. Some think he doesn’t listen and allows the trust to carry on in the same vain but I personally think it’s more nuanced than that. I do think it’s tricky for the trust having been so anti Sisu and even Robins once or twice. Any supporters group or voice needs to not be in the pockets of any of the parties and be able to question all parties independently without fear or favour. That said any ccfc fans group will ultimately want the best for their club and I’m sure that all of us genuinely do want that however we see the owners, wasps or ccc or local media.

He’s on the trust board and has a Masters Degree in Obfuscation

Our match day revenues shouldn't end up in their pockets anyway.

The NDA doesn't make any difference to the local media. It's out there as a fact that it's a sticking point so they can still do an article on it.
