Twats who stick on the outside line of the motorway driving a steady 65-70 and won’t move over even when there is plenty of space!

I've just driven back from Shrewsbury to Bournemouth and was just about to post about middle lane wankers.

At what point do they actually believe what they are doing is "safe" driving?

You would have to be a real arrogant, ignorant twat if you think doing 60mph in the middle lane is safe.

I wish police would put some effort into penalising these drivers, like they do with speeding drivers.

When people say "from the get go " instead of "from the start ."
When people say "period" instead of end of/ full stop.
Just get on a plane and go and live in the USA.

Agreed. It's worse still when you overtake them and clearly there is also traffic overtaking them in lane 1. You'd think they would realise that if traffic either side of them is travelling faster than them then they are not at a speed appropriate to the middle lane, wouldn't you ?

Not that it ever has any effect, but if in no rush you can enjoy yourself circling them on a quiet motorway. Overtake in the outside lane, pull into inside lane, slow to a speed where they overtake you. Repeat ad infinitum.

It has to be "I am the only one on the road, I am the important one" or "I am being safe, doing 10mph less than the speed limit".

1 excuse I have heard, is in case they have a blow out, they have more road either side of them to control the vehicle.....

Geez, that's a first for me. Have seen loads of crazy driving lately, but today an ambulance was coming up behind me and I put my hazards on and slowed a little and so too did all the cars in front and behind, but as soon as the ambulance passed, some idiot about 6 cars back decided he would take the opportunity to overtake everyone and speed past everyone in front at high speed. Nuts.

Then, as he passed I shook my head and so he then took it upon him himself to slow down in front of me. Thought he would intimidate me. Ha.

We came to a junction with just a right and left turn and he was heading right and me, left, but as soon as he saw me indicate left he swerved and went left instead, but then immediately turned back into the traffic and went back right

How dare I shake my head at absolutely lunatic driving.

I drive in the middle lane when I don't know if the upcoming exit is on the right or the left. That way I have only one lane to switch.
And yes there are planty of exits here on either side.

That's not really the same though, US roads are a different format.

Here, the driving lane is the left lane. Middle is to overtake, the outside is to overtake the overtakers.

Simples.

I've seen it a few times where someone will tailgate an ambulance while people have moved aside. Of all the ways people on the roads are dickheads it always strikes me as particularly ghoulish

On a motorway a middle lane driver is more of a hazard than someone going over 70.

i would agree - at least a 1000 miles in the summer you need to be cool as a cucumber
I’ve got used to it and just expect worse :) My car got a scrape on its bumper the other day, there was no parking space in front, next to it or behind but somehow someone managed to do it still.

I agree. It just sums up the arrogance.

I don't know where the middle lane culture has come from?

I've only been driving since 2010 (17) but was always taught the left lane is the driving lane. The middle is to overtake, with the outside lane for overtaking the overtakers, but always move back to the left lane as soon as possible.

You're driving along a motorway and the matrix signs dictate that in one mile lane two and three are closed for roadworks. You then get drivers beginning to move across to the left as expected..... 800 yds.........600 yds...........400yds..........200 yards. You see the cones ahead. By now you're down to 30 mph or less.
Right at the point at which lane two is about to disappear and lane 3 has gone, you look in your wing mirror and some tosser is doing 60 and determined to squeeze in, right in front of you, from you're right. Oh no you don't matey.

Should have seen the freak on the A34 on Sunday.

Wooly hat, big thick jacket, gloves on and a coffee cup in hand, while driving inside her car...
