Does anybody on here do any fantasy football? FPL, Dream Team, etc.

Yes I regularly do the one the Daily Telegraph organises. Have done for for about the last 15 years. Never won anything though.

Telegraph is a decent one-we all chuck in a tenner at work and winner takes all in a private league.

I do the Official FPL one every year. I'm dreadful at it!

There are a couple of lads at work who consistently do well.

I’ll set one up if you like. Reckon we’ll get numbers?

Yeah I reckon so, the one from last year was quite big. Might be worth seeing if the organiser is going to set it up again and asking them to invite you. If they don’t then definitely worth setting one up!!

Did it for years but stopped a couple of years ago because it became like Football Manager - an addiction that was taking up far too much time. Every season I'd get knackered by an injury to someone but when they changed it to allowing transfers anytime rather than in specific windows (which helped the situation) is when it started taking up more time so stopped doing it.

Usually finished in the top 10% but never actually did well enough to ever win anything. Got close on a few weekly and monthly prizes but always just missed out.

Any tips? Always been curious how the same people always do well..

Some of the rules have changed over the years, like transfers, increasing/decreasing values over the season etc so some of the things I'd do probably aren't as helpful anymore.

You probably already do some of these and seem self-evident,but as a general rule:
Pick players who've had a few years in the game and picked up decent points (but obviously this will increase their value). Picking a player with one year in the PL with a high score can bite you on the arse if they're a one-season wonder.New players can be useful to get in under budget restrictions, but it can be a bit of a lottery.
Go for teams playing in Europe if possible as they play more games. Europa League can be very useful as it's a relatively poor standard, but sometimes our teams can use reserves.
Towards the end of a season look at how many games each team has left due to fixtures being rearranged for cups/Europe etc. Some teams can have four of five more games to play than others.
Picking players (esp defenders) that take pens/free-kicks or go up for corners.
Defenders I tended to go for the lesser well known ones of the teams that concede the least but still play regularly as most defender points are the same from clean sheets etc. (I had a Chelsea defender a few years ago who always seemed to come on for 5 mins as a sub but got me loads of points because the team conceded so few)
Avoid the temptation to bring in players on good form as chances are their purple patch is about to end and it's a waste of time. Keep the decent players in even if they're off form as it will even out over as season. Only transfer them out if they're injured for a few games.

I'm sure the difference between doing well and winning stuff is to do things like taking a chance on an in form player etc and the winners end up being a bit lucky with it.

In America they can go nuts with it - people have algorithms set up based on the stats and all sorts - very Moneyball

How many times have you tinkered with your team then? I've been at it for about a week now. Fairly settled now though...What you got?

Done it for about 8/9 years.
Top 100 2 years ago. 30kish last year.
It's becoming way too commercial and so much info about people just spoon-fed teams rather than being individual. People actually paying cash for advice on how to play a free game.
Will start season but not sure I'll finish it.

I’ve gone with Billy Sharp up front, budget player. I expect to tinker a lot with my team still though.

Brave side with no Liverpool.
Too much money in keepers.
Walker should be a worry with cancelo signing.
Personally would save keeper money, downgrade Neves and upgrade kdb to sterling.
Being honest, I tried to avoid top 6 teams as much as possible because I hate them, and I had no idea cancelo signed for man city because I couldn’t care less but thanks for letting me know.

First go, my thinking is having Perez, Sterling and Salah in midfield that is basically like having 5 attackers on.

Are the above leagues open to anyone on here?

Yeah, I've gone for Perez as well. I assume he'll sit just behind Vardy.

Think you could suffer without any of Salah, Mane, Sterling, TAA or Robertson as most teams seem to have a mix of them. Saying that, that was last season...who knows!
It isn't neccesary a good thing though, you need the differentials...I always ignore this advice though :D

I'd interested to know the % of us on here who have the deadly trio of Wilson, Maddison and Fleck.

double utd defence brave. Not so much the defence but the midfield was so poor end of last yearoffered no protection

Yeah bit of a worry but both those two are new and should help. Gamble I'm willing to make. On paper they are under valued.

I recon Christensen will start most weeks for Chelsea
