I was told he was going to be one of the exits in January following the emergence of McCallum. I assume he'll be off because he's an expensive second option.
I heard we were awaiting a fee for him, nobody wanted to pay, and by the end of the window everybody wanting him for free had chosen other options.

Only get comp if they stay in England. Even moving to Scotland and we get nothing. Also has to be offered a contract more than he's currently on. Dangerous strategy if we don't want to keep him.

Thank you burge for checkatrade and league 2 promotion

but this is a good day. 2 new keepers incoming!

@steve82 your boy tom davies released,my boy jwillis offered new contract, is this yet another case of me being right when judging players compared to you? :)

Lol says nothing to me. Horses for courses....

Personally I cannot fault Tom Davies showing a desire and determination for wanting more game time and moving on to seek that. His interview was refreshing. Club wanted to take up his one year option but it’s been mutually agreed he will be allowed to go.

agree about davies attitude but not quite true is it? robins has removed option of him staying a 3rd year.

I’m more confident of Willis staying after reading it for some reason. Reckon he might stay if promised to be top earner and at the ricoh.

You hardly have to be told that. He had a bust up with robins after the Shrewsbury game and has been frozen out since - it’s zero to do with McCallum

Pretty much as expected.

Addai is interesting. Robins wasn’t prepared to put him in when we had nobody else so either they think he is still improving and worth keeping or it’s just making up the numbers.

Partly to the fact he knew Tom wants game time and clearly had the nod from McFadzean and pulled the plug on a deal he’d previously offered.

Think the respect displayed by both MR and Davies is healthy and as is football and a transfer window we move on now with McFadzean who sounds like my cuppa tea.

Would of released him watched him a lot in the u23’s he thinks he’s some super star woeful keeper

Have to say I wasn't too impressed in the Leeds game but I guess they may see something in his raw attributes. It's probably a case of a very low cost extension on a young player when we've just released our 2 senior goalkeepers.

Nothing that surprising in the outs.

Wasn't expecting Addai's extension to be taken up - think it might be that they didn't want to potentially have no keepers whatsoever. No idea if they released the U18 keeper Bilson or not.

I guess we have to be careful what we wish for - I think most of us feel that there are better options than Burge available, but there are also worse too so we've got to be careful who we bring in. As long as we're using both Burge and LOB wages to bring in one keeper we should be alright and hopefully injury etc won't be an issue or we can get a decent loan in if that should occur.

Wasn't expecting Green to be offered anything but by all accounts he's already agreed to move to the US. Is signing McFadzean a direct replacement for Davies, hence why we didn't take up the extra year, or acceptance that Willis won't be signing?

Looking at it we've lost a fair chunk of a half decent defence and the most creative elements of our midfield, but still retain all the attackers that were guilty of missing so many chances last season. I'm excited for who we might recruit in the summer (the stadium being up in the air might affect that) but we're going to have to be careful who we choose.

In some ways I prefer this part of the year - playing fantasy squad building etc without us losing for a few months.

What’s the deal with that? If we know someone is going to be picked up by a club, and we don’t really want them but we want a fee...could we offer them a contract for £1 a week?

No - you have to offer then a deal on at least the same wages as they're currently on to get compensation.

Difficult to sign a keeper at our level who is really good and ask him to be on the bench. If Addai is No 2, hopefully the new coach can improve him. He's tall and athletic enough - just needs to lose the over-casual demeanour (from what 've seen). Though, that said, I like a more laid back keeper than a nervous bundle of energy - can cause defence (and fans) to panic!

If addai stays I'd loan him out for the first 6 months to a club as high as will take him. Not Mickleover, not Kenilworth wardens, a conf/North /south club if they'll have him. He needs games in a competitive league otherwise what's the point of having him.

I think it's definitely the latter. If he was genuinely in the first team picture we would be offering him more than a 1 year deal wouldn't we? It's not as of he's an unknown quantity.

Comment on MLS: each team has the option of signing up to 3 “designated players” which don’t count against the salary cap, and those players are usually quite good. Other than that, the quality can be poor. That’s why the defending always looks awful, the designated players are almost all big money attackers/midfielders signed from decent leagues/clubs in Europe and everyone else (including all defenders) come from either university/college, MLS academies or small(er) foreign leagues.
Because of this it’s difficult to compare with other leagues.
