I have a lot of sympathy for their cause without doubt. The ecological damage we are all doing to every other species on the planet is appalling. Humanity has to reverse it's growth rate and quickly now before there is nothing left.........how do you persuade people to not do the most natural thing in the world though in procreation ?!

Be better going to 3rd world country ies to educate than protest in London then.....

Also hardly shocking to see they're all the same ones from the anti-Brexit marches, mostly scruffy, I'd wager vegan too! No better than the hooligans at Sunderland from both sides on Saturday but receiving far more support and sympathy

The typical London response I've read though is to worry about a few quid not being spent on Oxford Street. When will these greedy people actually realise there is more to life than profits !

They seem so naive, keep hearing them spout nonsense like we have 12 years to save the world.

I can't remember the exact figure but the carbon footprint of a western child is several times that of a western child.

And whether you agree with them or not, absolute nonsense yo compare them to football hooligans.
I respect them though think the human race is fucked and they're wasting their r time.
Bet the planet can't wait to see the back of us.

I work in central London (in the environment sector too!), and somewhat disappointingly I haven't found any protesters to debate with (we have been instructed not to interact actually). As part of my job, I suspect I actually do know more than than many about climate change - the science/evidence base, adaptation and mitigation strategies, projections, impacts etc..

Would have been fun to find out if any of them know much themselves.

Raising the profile of the issue is all good stuff - not sure this is the best way to go about it though - very few of us environmental professionals are crusty, hippy types - so not sure this helps to put the issues in the mainstream

Wonder what the overall carbon footprint & environmental impact of organising, getting people there, policing, clearing up, processing offenders, fuel burnt in jams etc actually is?

Some just love an excuse to form a gang & create a bit of disruption & mayhem in other people's lives don't they? It just breeds some animosity to the cause that we all have sympathy with...their energy may be better utilised in demonstrating to local communities "how" to make a positive difference in their daily lives rather than bullying them to notice what they have mostly already noticed

“You’re a load of incompetent, middle class, self indulgent people who want to tell us how to live our lives.”
Adam Boulton (sky news) in a rather aggressive and unprofessional interview with one of the organisers of the protest. Oh the irony of a middle class journalist who cosies up to our incompetent and self indulgent MPs.

Ask them all to forgo their mobile phones as they have a big environmental impact.
I’d be surprised if more than 3 or 4 gave them up. Hypocrites the lot of them.

The worlds climate has fluctuated for millions of years and will do so whether humans are here or not. Blaming humans for climate change is an excuse to tax to populous.

Agreed. They probably just want to be on the telly or something.
Seriously, humanity is fucked. Everyone is a cynic.

If they were truly bothered they would be looking at targeting the Indian and Chinese embassies and not stopping public transport services

Productivity must be down in a lot of businesses with all these people taking time off at the same time.

Did they all walk to London?

Of course they didn't, they're hypocrites.

They still use electric for their phones/iPads, drive a car or get mummy and daddy to drive them everywhere and fly in a plane to Asia to stroke a drugged up Tiger.

The funny thing about these "alternative" people, is how stereotypical they are.

The comments on this show why this type of protest is frustrating for the likes of me. The protests are counter productive and marginalise what is a serious issue.

One or two of my colleagues have spoken to a few of them and not one knew much about the basics.

For those who are sceptical about the potential impacts of CC and the human element to this, please look at the UK Climate Change 2018 report and projections (UKCP18). Also the IPCC reports.

Trust me- there is a serious issue here.
