Match Thread Chances of Making The Playoffs (1 Viewer)

Clearly we would need to win all our remaining games, highly unlikely. But what if we did, what would our chances look like?
Doncaster have to play
Sunderland (A)
Accrington (H)
Oxford (A)
Cov (H)
The chances of them only taking 3 points from those games is low but Sunderland away is a big ask, given yesterday's result which Sunderland will see as humiliation, losing to us, and will want to make amends in front of their fans. Also if they lose again their promotion hopes could take a significant knock.
But here's the thing, Oxford have taken 13 points from their last 5 games and won't be a pushover even though they have nothing much to play for.

Peterborough have to play
Fleetwood (A)
Sunderland (H)
Walsall (A)
Portsmouth (A)
Burton (H)
Like Oxford, Burton have taken 13 points from their last 5 games. Peterborough should take 10 points from those games but the possibility for a slip-up is there.
Our chances are slim but not non-existent.

All Doncaster’s games are tough I think they will lose to Sunderland we will beat Bradford although we seem to struggle with lower tabled sides.Pompey away I feel is going to be a struggle for us but hopefully we can pull off another win against a good side.Going to Doncaster within 2 points is possible.

Basically Doncaster need 4 points to knock us out and/or Peterborough need 10 points (9 to go to goal difference where we could have a chance if we do somehow win our last 4 games).
Needed Doncaster to drop points yesterday

We currently aren't good enough for the Championship and need another season in League 1 to improve our squad plus sorting out all the crap with the stadium. Fisher has already said we can't afford to go up and, for once, he may be right given SISU's break even policy.

Then the other L1 clubs aren't good enough either.
Did you see the other thread stating our record against the top 7 clubs?
Played 12, won 6, drew 4 lost 2.
And what's this about 'improving our squad'?
This summer will be a complete clear out and we'll start all over again next season with a brand new squad.

When did Fisher say that?

Really????

New keeper
New right back
One new centre back
Right mid and left mid
Goal scorer

Not quite a complete new squad

I'd written off play offs hopes prior to Sunderland win tbh, obviously still possible but i can't see us winning all our games and donny AND peterborough slipping up...

Still a good season that I'm happy with, just hope the off the field drama doesnt knock us back next season

Up until the last game of the season. Doncaster will lose all their remaining games Peterborough will win one and draw 2 lose the rest.
We'll draw with Bradford, Beat Pompey, Draw with Shrewsbury which will leave peterborough and donny on 69 points and ourselves on 66 we'll beat Doncaster about 6-0 to cover the goal difference. But Peterborough will get a last minute equaliser at Burton to take them onto 70 points.

Not quite a complete new squad

2 keepers as need a back up
2 RBs as ones on loan the other out of contract
1 CB
More than one CM with Meyler going back and no Doyle
Someone to replace Bright
LM
RM
Decent Finisher

That’s already 10/11 players

I don't understand where this finisher/goalscorer we need so badly is going to play? We're playing 1 up top & next season we'll have Baka, Chaplin and Biamou for sure, Hiwula as back up through the middle also. People need to be realistic, we've spend a shitload on strikers for league 1 club this season and play 1 up top.. Unless we go up, a new striker will be bottom of the list in terms of priority. Can't see it working out for Ponti but who knows, Bremang might even be ready to step up next season.

I for one have been feeling fairly confident about us somehow doing this. Like many of the relegation battles in the 1990s and earlier, I feel if we can take it down to the last 1-2 games we'd find a way of making it happen! Just don't ask me how...

Absolutely no chance.

A couple of fixtures short of a realistic chance. Home form is poor so we will probably drop more pts against Bradford or Shrewsbury.....

However, we are definitely capable of winning at Portsmouth.

What year did we only finish 1 or 2pts outside the Playoffs after a strong finish?

8 points is the gap between CCFC and Donny which looks a little too much bridge.

Donny like City have four games remaining and would need to lose two from the first three in order to give City a chance on the final day, while City must win all of their remaining four games.

Donny’s fixtures are;

Sunderland (a)
Accrington (h)
Oxford (a)
City (h)

Can we do it?

We will not get 12 points, more specifically - we will not get 6 home points.

Stating the obvious here... The issue is in the way MR sets us up... works well away, not so at home.

That's what some said last season after we won the play offs.

Did we start the last week thinking 4 points was the most likely outcome meaning a win against Rovers and a draw at Sunderland? We just got them the hard way.

I dont think we will quite make the play offs but do you think Robins has lifted the shackles off to some extent after Saturdays great attacking display ?

Actually Doncaster could draw the next 3 and we still be in with a shout if we win our 3. In all likelihood we will probably finish 5 to 6 points adrift. Not a bad effort, but frustrating given the recent results at home.

A great season by anyone’s standards given where we came from last year , well done to the team , as for playoffs we shall see but if not I won’t be too bothered , i was convinced we would be relegated this season and I was so so wrong . We should not under estimate on a few bad results what a good season we have had. If we can lure in a couple more decent over the summer we could be flying next season

If you look at the final 2014/15 table it is possible. Unlikely though. Doncaster only need 4 points and I can’t see us scoring enough goals to make up the goal difference.

I think the timing of our games and Donnys May work for us.. we play first Friday.. if we can take it down to 5 points by winning it may apply a little pressure for Donny. Then on Monday.. we play early.. long shot.. but another win to take it down to 2, which will give donny a full 24 hours to stew over it before they play oxford.. if they lose.. we then have Shrewsbury to beat before taking it to the last game of the season. Where we will get beat

The timing also works out well for me on the second last weekend of the season when, if were still in it, I’ll fork over 5 Canadian dollars to either Oxford United or Doncaster Rovers to watch that game on the Saturday, with us playing on the Sunday.

Why is everyone ignoring Peterborough who are 3 points ahead of us with better goal difference and a game in hand? Am I missing something?
If we’re going to catch Doncaster we’ll have to win all our games. If we win all our games we’ll probably finish above Peterborough.

If we can't afford it this year, we'll be f'kd next season with about a quarter of the fans travelling to "home" games.

I would love us to do the unthinkable - win our last four games. Doncaster lose at Sunderland and Oxford as well. Would create a dilemma and PR nightmare for all concerned.
