Just seen something unexpected on the Sunderland forum:
“I fancy Coventry to go up, so I think second spot is a must for us two.”

Unexpected indeed!

Does anyone know if Blackpool are actually likely to get a points deduction or not?

If they do its 3 teams going for 1 spot and if we can beat Peterborough and Donny then it's fully on!

Long way to go though and we're definitely the outsiders

I think 6th place will have a lower than average points tally as in previous seasons, hopefully.

We’ve got several big games coming up, starting with tomorrow and hopefully we can get 3 points.

Tomorrow is a big game.

I know it's a bit if a cliche, but we just need to take one game at a time and see where we are going into the last game of the season.

I agree, it seems to be the case that whenever we have an ‘easy’ run of games, we tend to slip up.

It is a dog fight for that 6th place spot, another cliché, but we’ve got to want it more than P’borough, Blackpool and Doncaster.

I think it's mental that we're even in with a shout with 9 games to go.

Not saying we're shite, but I've been far from convinced this season. Mainly with our finishing which has been atrocious.

I know we shouldn't be disappointed if it doesn't happen, but if we are within touching distance, then next year there is no guarantee it'll be the same story.

Let's absolutely fucking go for it.

Would be interesting to know the record for number of losses and still be promoted.
No idea about records for promotion etc but the teams that have finished 6th for the last 10 years have had these losses at end of season:

17/18 - 15
16/17 - 13
15/16 - 16
14/15 - 15
13/14 - 18
12/13 - 12
11/12 - 9
10/11 - 13
09/10 - 12
08/09 - 14

Considering were already on 14 either suggests we shouldn't make it or were aiming for a slightly lower than normal points total to get in play offs...

Out of those it was Barnsley in 15/16, as you say already on 14, so could be looking at record number of losses...

this is good stuff but need to see how many wins and draws to achieve a comclusive veiw i.e Barnslet 15/16 may have lost 16 but could have won 20!

Agree but in the end it'll only come down to points not how you got them! Points are like this:

17/18 - 71
16/17 - 73
15/16 - 74
14/15 - 69
13/14 - 74
12/13 - 74
11/12 - 73
10/11 - 71
09/10 - 80
08/09 - 76

So your right, you can see Barnsley actually still managed a relatively high points total (annoyingly in the season we did well and ended on 69 points)...

Looks like you'd be unlucky to get 74 and not get playoffs, so only another 21 to go!!!

Agreed though if this can’t hit a barn door squad comes 7th then next year bodes well provided a competent striker is signed

Well we have only lost 1 of our last 8. 8 games to go. Be difficult to replicate current run of 8 games which have equated to 17 points....

It’s about who you beat or don’t lose to. Last game of season Doncaster away..be good to go there ahead of them but it wouldn’t be all lost if we go there and we’re even 2 points behind.

Realistitally, I think the title has gone now.

Automatics are still possible, but it might be that this year we will have to settle for the play-offs.

Looking at booking a Wembley hotel room again.
