Should you be able to have a beer when watching the game at The Ricoh? (1 Viewer)

What are your views on allowing alcohol to be consumed from your seat whilst watching Coventry City at The Ricoh?
Apparently the EFL wants the 1985 ban lifted - I think this is a great idea so bring it on!

EFL chief executive Shaun Harvey wants to lift the long-established ban on supporters drinking alcohol in the stands.
Football fans in England and Wales are forbidden to drink alcohol within view of the pitch under laws passed in 1985.
But with hooliganism no longer a major issue in the domestic game, Harvey believes it is time to relax the ban.
"To have a blanket ban remaining in 2018 is, in our view, disproportionate to today's level of risk," he said.
"One of the key issues that requires further examination is the fact football is being treated inconsistently with other sports.
"The EFL would always request football is given the same opportunities as other sports, so the many law-abiding citizens attending matches who wish to be able to drink while posing no threat to public order are able to do so."
However, there are no such restrictions on fans of other sports, including rugby and cricket, while alcohol is often allowed at concerts held in football stadiums.

Would do my head in if people were constantly getting up to go backward s and forwards to the bar. Plus the youth of today seemingly can’t hold onto a drink if a goal goes in

Yes, I'd love it. But we can't have nice things because people would ruin it. It would be absolute mayhem.

Nope, bad idea and I do enjoy an ale too.
Pricks throwing it around, no thanks.

No chance. People get too pissed as it is at games. Apparently a kid was carried out at the last home match having been sick everywhere and pissed himself. The thought of some 50 somethings doing the same doesn't bear thinking about.

Yes, 100%

If someone is taking the piss and is causing trouble then deal with them but I reckon most fans would behave and it'd make for a better atmosphere at most grounds.

It’s good in theory but at away game especially you would be soaked in beer and that’s a long drive home sometimes.

So yes I agree with the principal but not with the practical.

Cold January game and somebody is throwing beer on you. Recipe for violence.

No no no. Idiots throwing it around. Others up every 10mins for another one or up again and again for the loo.

Personally I think its a good idea, part of the reason for drunken stupid behaviour is the current ban encourages binge drinking before the game, and leads to people being more pissed up than they need to be. Being able to have a pint or 2 in your seat will lead to less binge drinking in the longer term IMO. People drink at cricket, rugby, ice hockey etc without issue, yes there are always idiots but the current set up encourages rather than discourages poor drunkn behaviour.

I think it would be better. Instead of everyone trying to neck pints at half time they could drink them at their leisure.
I reckon most people would drink no more than a pint or two more than they usually do.
I think it might stop the ten to 3 charge clogging up the turnstiles as every one leaves it until the last minute to leave the pub.

You could opt into a scheme where you sign up to be allowed to drink and promise to behave but if you act the goat your banned from drinking in your seat and so you can be identified one of the stewards is allowed to tattoo a cock and balls on your forehead.

So some people can't face the prospect of 90 minutes without ale, without getting shit-faced and acting like cunts? Unfortunately, football attracts more than it's fair share of society's anti-social element, so no thanks.

just on this subject of "not being able to go without"

what is it with people going to the cinema and having a 3 course meal.

Was there last week and a guy took in a hot dog, popcorn and a huge bag of sweets.

It's obvious.

The hot dog is for when he gets his knob out so people will think it's the hot dog and not his knob. The popcorn is for the rustling paper to hide the moans and the sweets are for his missus to take away the taste of cum from her mouth afterwards.

I should sit somewhere else next time if I was you.

I saw him being led out, sick bag in hand. He looked underage to me so i would doubt he would be served in the stadium.
I personally would love to be able to have a couple of pints whilst watching the game. It annoys me that those that turn up to watch our landlords are allowed

Allow them that wanna have a beer while watching the game to do so.
If people start performing and chucking it about, throw them out.
