See there's a story in the CT relating to City's home game against Northampton in 2016.
There was a bloke who got glassed outside the ROAB club on Foleshill Rd.
who AFAIK was an innocent bystander who ended up having his face scarred.
Eight lads then chased the six Northampton fans down the road and apoears had a ramble.
They've all been sent down for affray from 8months down four for others .
Four of the NT lads are also doing time.
Point I want make Is grow up, this all came about because two 19 yr olds set it up through instagram.

So some Cov City fans have been sent down for a fight outside the Buffs with Northampton fans last season. I know a couple of the lads involved and it all kicked off after a Cov fan got glassed. Most just reacted in self defence as they never knew it was a pre arranged fight.
I know the Buffs car park attendant who's a big lad but not a hooligan and all he did was push a Northampton fan over, as he was waving a bottle about. I think he got five months for that ! Those Northampton lads came in the Horseshoes earlier, but looked around the pub, and must have realised it wasn't the boozer they were told to go to and left. Not saying violence is right far from it but if someone comes at you with a bottle/glass you only have a second to react haven't you ?
I hear all are appealing the sentences, hope they get a retrial or get suspended sentences.

Hey I get that I'm upset the lads have got time, I was inside when it happened.
Like I say all because of a couple of stupid 19yr olds, Judge has been harsh.

Different laws re football related offences have a scrap on Wednesday in the Tesco car park might only get a caution if the City are at home you’ll get some bird. One of those involved was 63 ffs!
I'm coming up to 65 and still love a good scrap! Had three in the last year!

sorry makes me angry. northampton fans came for trouble yet more cov fans get jail for looking after eachother. same years ago with pompey when they stormed the west terrace. more cov jailed than pompey after yet pompey caused the trouble. it’s a joke.

Didn't realise you could go down for that long with a charge of affray, did they have previous?

Ben stokes could be in more trouble than I thought!

wrong place wrong time for most there. they had no idea northampton were turning up and we’re looking after eachother. self defence. If someone comes in hitting you what you going to do? Aguero last night did the same and nothing said

Just had a quick look at guidelines, looks like the judge has gone over the top as he's considered it football related hope they have successful appeals.

I was standing outside the Horseshoes with a few other City fans that day, and having a drink and banter amongst ourselves. My mate said to me a group he never recognised stood nearby looking at us talking amongst themselves, and walked on down the road. Later on found out it was those Northampton lads who came for a fight. Must have looked at us blokes in our 50's and 60's and thought bloody hell their hooligans are knocking on a bit !

it’s the police fault as they done sketches and timelines and made all look like bad people. this should have been only the 2 who organised the trouble. not the bystanders who had no intention of causing trouble that day

my mate nearly got put down for ragging one of them who invaded the west end. Turned out the police tried to arrest him in town but the van was full so let him go. My mate's never gone looking for trouble in his life.
Luckily he got not guilty but others weren't so lucky.
Got caught up in the politics between the police and the club over the downgrading of the category of the game.

Did the police not check any CCTV or anything to see what had happened?

If somebody goes running at somebody else swinging and the other defends themselves surely it's common sense.

It is worrying that when it's football something it's pretty much instant jail time.

What happens if I am minding my own business home from the game and somebody kicks off while I have my daughter with me and I have to defend both myself and her?

It doesn't work like that and the trouble is the less you're in trouble the less you know how it does work and how to play the game.

Yes it's mostly based on CCTV evidence
Judge has given extra weight to the fact the landlady had intervened giving chance to walk away .
Trouble is the glassing was after this.

He's a big unit and was well known to the OB, he trashed a few invading Pompey in the WT and could have got off but problem was he'd ran down from four blocks away to repel the invaders and that's what they nailed him on.

Did many of the people sent down have any previous convictions?

The car park attendant who pushed somebody over swinging a glass about getting 5 months. Seems very extreme.

Thing is that Club has always been a good place for away fans to mingle with City fans .
Can't think why that kid suggested there as it is mostly mature grown ups or families with kids. There were some NT inside at the time and the banter was good, no malice either way .
Stupid little runt.

That's the thing isn't it, the people who arranged it and brought the trouble there won't be too popular either. Did they both get sent down?

I wouldn't want to comment on the specifics, because I don't know them, but the law says this iirc...

You're allowed to use reasonable force to defend yourself or those around you (or as I understand it to detain someone who has committed an offence).

However, you're not allowed to chase someone down and give them a kicking, even if they've just assaulted you or one of your friends. At that point you're clearly not under threat and therefore you don't need to defend yourself. Affray is a more serious offence than assault, as I recall, because it relates to the likely effect on innocent bystanders.

I'd be amazed if anyone who just pushed over someone who was clearly threatening them would even get to court, let alone be sent down, but the police do get it wrong. It would be interesting to know what the evidence in front of the court was...
