Golf - This is driving me nuts! (1 Viewer)

Can anyone please answer this question for me re the Irish Open last week and the Scottish on now!!

No matter what I type in on the intenet I can't find the answer.

Confusing the hell out of me. Ian Poulterer just played the 9th hole and it completed his round. Last week I was watching someone on 6 under and they were only on the 8th hole and I thought that was brilliant, but they played the next hole and again it was the end of their round.

Immediate thought was they are 9 hole courses and they are going round twice, but the 10th hole is a different par to the 1st. Are they playing 2 different courses? What the actual fook is going on? Seems different for different player.

So confusing. I watch someone on the 12th hole and I don't know if it is the 12th hole or the 3rd hole.

It's driving me nuts!! Same thing 2 weeks running and I can't find any explanation and the commentators aren't saying anything.

Poulter just played the 9th hole and that was the end of his round. Hebert, the French guy however, has just played the 18th to end his round.

Argghhhhhh!!

When there's lots of people playing in one day/tournament they often start people on the 1st hole and the 10th hole simultaneously.

This allows them to get 16 groups of players out in half the time as if they all start on the first.

This should only happen on a Thursday and Friday of the tournament as the weekend see's people miss the cut and a smaller field so they can all start on the 1st and finish play by the end of the day.

That makes sense. Do they not have any way of indicating that when they're showing you the score through?

I've played a 9 hole course as a full 18 before, where the tee position for the "back 9" differs from the front 9.......

9 greens but 18 tees........

That does make sense!! Perhaps it is that then.

I am not even that keen on watching golf, but have been doing so for a whole week just to see if someone suddenly says the answer in the bleedin commentary!!! You know when things just eat away at you and even though it is not that important you still want to know the answer!! ;)

Rich is bang on. In big tournaments it clears the numbers early doors before the cut. Even ansty to it on a Sunday morning!

I finally clocked it Friday morning. As they don't usually start their TVcoverage until later in the morning, by then nearly everyone is teeing off for their round from the first hole, but I just happened to catch Matt Kuchar and he was just finishing the 18th and then his score came up and it was just the back 9, therefore confirming it.

If you don't catch it early though it is bloody confusing. Was watching Poulter and it looked for all the world if his round had only just started, yet he was coming to the end at the 8th.
