Just had a look at the CET article on the Championship released list. a couple that caught my eye:

Neal Eardley. been injured but I always rated him

David Wheater. Ugly brute of a defender with a Mowbray link

then 3 who could be worth a punt if they could get back their early promise.

Jordan Spence. was very highly regarded at west ham

James Vaughan. again remember Everton having high hopes. L1 could be his level

Sigurðarson. Wolves paid big bucks for him tho id imagine he will head back to the Scandinavian leagues

Would take David Wheater. Exactly the mould of a CB we are looking for. However his wages could be an issue. Jordan Spence is an established right back that I think would be a great addition to the squad. Achieved promotion with MK Dons and featured heavily last term in the Championship with them. Need players like him that know how to get out of this league

I hate the saying "Knows how to get out this league"

I know how to get out this league, grind out results and don't lose by giving silly goals away and concentrate!

When you're away from home, before the ball is even kicked you have 1 point.

Sounds simple, easy and obvious but football don't need to be complicated

I cant believe he is only 29

You might hate it but at the end of the day its a fact that those who have been promoted knows how to gain that said promotion. Do you think loan players that have come straight out of Premier League academies do? It's all well and good you saying that you know how to get out of this league. Great we all do. But its the players on the pitch that do the talking. Signing players that have achieved promotion isn't overcomplicating things whatsoever, if anything that counteracts your point about football not needed to be complicated. It's the most logical way of gaining promotion. To summarise what you're saying; to achieve promotion requires consistency. Players such as Jordan Spence know how to achieve that which in turn therefore shows that they know how to get out of this league. Since the departure of Cyrus Christie we have had a string of average RB's that lack that said consistency and a lot of our goals conceded were as a result of not having an established defence - therefore those who have not possessed the quality or knowledge of how to achieve season long consistency. We've been gambling on players that we expect to do well and end up crashing mid-season. So if anything you're just reiterating my point. The idea of signing players that 'know how to get out of this league' is stripping down football to its simplest form. It might not achieve promotion because theres no guarantees in football but its certainly a more logical move than signing youth level loan players. Its signing players such as Jordan Spence who know how to get out of this league that possess the knowledge to grind out results and don't lose by giving away silly goals and concentrate.

Yes another one of his issues. Point taken, think we might want to avoid signing players this season that can't make it off the team bus without rupturing something. Solid player when fit though. However I have a sense of deja vu brewing when I come out with that sentence

Do you really believe that was the reason for him not sticking it out? I'm not so sure, especially as he never left again after the shortest of short term loans ever known to man, despite not coming in favour under the new boss
The fact they did sack the manager and Donnelly stated it was the reason he went back suggests it has a good chance of being true. Or do I believe what is in your head because it supports a few theories you have?

Charlton have sent a second bid in for moncur at colchester, doesn't sound like we are in for him sadly

Colchester want £500,000 apparently. Not a chance for us unfortunately
Am I the only one who wasn't really impressed with him when we played them? Thought he was just a lot of sideways passing and running with no real conviction. He's obviously a decent player for this level but certainly wouldn't have him up there with Bradley dack or even Maddison.

I rated him. And over the season rather than 1 game, he can certainly do it in this league and I'd not moan if we paid £500,000 for him

Given that he's still young do you reckon he'll make it a higher level?

He certainly stood out as one of the better midfielders we came up against and if the likes of Maddison can get spotted, I imagine he may have been watched too.

Think it was West Ham he was at before Colchester, and their academy isn't a bad one so they must have seen something in him so yes, I'm sure he has the potential, but needs to have another go at this level first (ideally with us, realistically though it won't be :D)

I do think he's a talented player. And to score 14 goals in a team that finished second from bottom reflects that. Dack only scored one more goal than Moncur and was in a team that was in the top 6 for the majority of the season. I think in a better team under a better manager Moncur could flourish. Do not forget whilst Moncur seemingly ran around like a headless chicken all game, (Admittedly I did not attend the Colchester game) his quality over the course of the season is evident. It's difficult to compare him to a player such as Maddison because Maddison has got bags of potential and will most likely be far better than Moncur by the time he reaches 22. Overall he is an impressive player but I will hold caution as managers build their team around players such as Moncur and therefore once the big fish in the small pond gets put into a bigger pond and managers no longer build a team/tactics around him, he could be subsequently exposed

Ryan Iniss - 6ft 5 CB similar mould to Ben Turner and Reda Johnson, was on loan at Port Vale last season and I heard from one of their fans he was solid until he got injured.

Only problem is he has the same injury problems as turner and reda as far as I can gather. Only played about 15 times last year.

Extremely talented youngster but as previously mentioned his injury issues cause me to think that it would be a risky move if we were to sign him. I wanted him last season however he obviously went to Port Vale. Judging by his year and a half loan stint though at PV where he only made 23 appearances due to injury I think Innis is one we should avoid

Scott Wootton is a known joke footballer. The Leeds fans hate him and are overjoyed that he's leaving. Warnock is going to Wigan.

How old is he now a days. Seems to have been around a long time
32, will likely be on a fair chunk, I don't think he is the player we need. Not a bad shout, but would like to see someone a bit younger who we can get a couple of years out of,.

I can see us going for a player such as Gordan Greer personally. Captain material and a talented CB. Would personally like to see him come on a one year contract due to his age. Would most definitely sort out the defence and provide leadership and stability. All of which Ricketts seemed to struggle with for the second half of the season.

James Maddison or the one at Peterborough?

Stephen Warnock released by Derby
34 years of age.

Not that I'm not happy with Stokes at LB but I'm sure I read that TM was looking at someone else in that position
