Is he the the best choice for captain in our current available squad?
He is hardly one of our more vocal players. Peter Ramage proved this yesterday, could constantly hear him talking, calling the line. I've noticed this over a few weeks not off the back of yesterday but it was highlighted massively.
Is it time to to look at other players that are vocal and can get the team motivated in a positive way.
I'd vote for Vincelot.

Hope your not suggesting Ramage as Skipper, as I don't think you are.

First and foremost the skipper needs to be a certainty in the team every week.
Barring Fleck, Vincelot, Stokes and Ricketts. There is no one else.

Ricketts has been superb all season. Very versatile. Almost ever present and definitely a first choice. He keeps the arm band. And what message would that send mid season.

No chance of that happening.

Agreed captain has to be first name on the sheet every week. That's why my vote would be vincelot, definitely not ramage. How vocal ramage was made it clearer.
Not so sure he's been superb this season. Reasonably reliable, you no what your getting. Maybe his versatility is his undoing, I like ricketts the right back, not the centre half. Obviously injuries mean he's doing a job tho.

Ricketts for me.

Off to see the GP first thing in the morning.

Captain is a role that involves, the pitch, the changing room, the training field and the managers office.

It is not all about calling the line. Although that is a skill not to be underestimated.

Every good side needs three or four leaders anyway.

I am sure Ricketts does a good job.

A captain needs to be a leader tho, strong personality, motivator and vocal.
For all his calm cool approach and experience he is not the above to me.
I'm not saying the likes of Job are more suited. He's shouting/ranting last season was not the correct approach that I mean. Just a more vocal instrumental affect.

You can't really take it off him. That would make it look like he's done something wrong and I don't think that's the case. Not like we've got someone who would be the obvious candidate.

Jesus! He is head and shoulders above anyone on the pitch, a leader a fighter and shows his class over the other team members. We lose to the team top with two games in hand and we are looking at TM picking the wrong team, the pitch and now Ricketts? FFS Ive seen it all now!
Maybe we arent the best team in our division after all at the moment.:thinking about:

A leader and a fighter? Cannot say I've seen him rally his team?
Never questioned his ability as a player in his favoured position, he's experienced, calm and does a fair job. Question was is he the best choice of captain. Joe Cole is head and shoulders above but he's possibly not captain material.

He's captain of a team that did manage to go top for a while and is currently in 4th place...bit harsh to drop him as captain.

He was the first to put an arm round Phillips.

I think we're all descending into idiocy to justify losing to Burton.

Simple really: they are a better TEAM than us. We are a top 6 side, as it stands, which in itself is still encouraging. So let's quit trying to make every player in our squad the scapegoat for a naive and bungling loss to the top team in the league. Next it'll be Finch, wherever he may be.

To give Joe Cole the captain's armband would be preposterous. Sam Ricketts is an example of a player who leads through experience and strength. Just because he's not screaming his lungs out doesn't make him unsuitable.

Jesus, I really am sick to fucking death of this mass hysteria based on a naive defeat to Burton. Granted, we're not top 2 material at the minute, but let's be realistic and pragmatic, yeah?

Next we'll have the official lynching thread for Aaron Phillips...I have big stick we could whack him with, btw.

Ricketts is a calm, experienced player who seems to have a decent effect on the younger players around him for the most part. I'm happy with him as captain based on that, not if he's shouting a lot.

Agreed, shouting isnt all there is to being captain!

Why are we questioning the Skipper? Because we've just lost our 2nd game in 19!??? We don't need to start questioning things because of one defeat. We are having a great season. We can't win every week and besides, from what I heard (couldnt make the game) we gave them the win, not outplayed.

I agree with you on the bulk part of that...
I'm not trying to pick fault in a defeat against a top of the league very well organised team, was more what I've observed over the last few months.
We're sat nicely in 4th, played our best football in years, even been top for a spell. But as I've said as a player I've not questioned his ability in his favoured position.
Since gillingham game we've gone off the boil a little and it's mostly due to our injury ravaged defence or poor refereeing and bad luck. That's football.... Plus were a team of mostly kids.
My point was as a captain he seems very quiet, don't seem to talk a lot on the pitch. I'm not after the shouty type, far from it. Also was not saying joe Cole should be it. Yes ricketts is ever present, maybe a father figure and have a stature, a presence around the training ground. Yes he is captain of a team sat in the play offs, top for a while. For me he should offer more, rallying his team in a positive way. Not screaming.
The game is lost drawn and won on the pitch after all.
