No idea. Mostly I’m just winding you up. I do like Sheaf though, classy player and the stats don’t support the memes about losing the ball. That’s just football fans confirmation bias. Remember Sheaf misplacing a pass but forget Dabo or Hamer doing the same. He’s not really made any more mistakes over the season than any of the back line and even if he has he’s about the youngest one there.

I agree, Sheaf is a classy player, nice on the ball when given 5 yards and he's a neat player, some would call a luxury player ... That doesn't mean I think he's a good holding midfielder though... I don't think he is.

Even as a deep lying playmaker, he's often too casual for my liking... Players like pirlo could comb his hair and still find the pass into space... Kroos can genuinely create forward momentum, Sheaf has yet to do this for me... Hence my stance

He's not doing the things that separate the average from the very good

750k doesn’t buy you pirlo or Kroos though. It buys you Sheaf

It'd be really awkward if I showed you that Sheaf plays higher % of his passes forward than Kroos wouldn't it...?

My mates son scored 45 goals in the Sunday Coventry minor league last year... would it be awkward if I told you that he scored more than Christiano Ronaldo last season

How often does a club sign a player like Mahrez on the cheap who turns out to be class though
There are many signings for small fees that turn out great, its not as rare as we think... Maybe not mahrez great but yea

No but as a statistics based club, who now scouts into Europe - can you show me a DM statistically as good as Sheaf, and can buy him for £750k

A statistics based club that signed biamou and Bakayoko, a statistics based club that signed kastaneer and jobello... Come on now.

And no, I can't just give you a player off the top of my head, I am also not prepared to look on databases to find you one either.

Are you also suggesting that Sheaf is the best DM in Europe for his age for 750k, if so thats an absurd statement to make...why weren't the big boys in for him... Ffs

Why didn’t arsenal keep him either,I seen someone mention stats showing he doesn’t give the ball away he recycles play well but he gets caught too much I do fee he will grow out of that tho.

I think some of that is adjusting to what our understanding of a holding player is as we move up the leagues. Doyle could do the job of kicking people in League two but it turned out he didn't have the legs for league one. Kelly was great at disrupting and motivating in league 1 but it may be the case that he isn't proactive enough with the ball in the championship. I think one of MR's biggest accomplishments is that he's developed the squad every year and to do that you have to be slightly ruthless with some players but also look at how the game is going at what is more successful. I think Sheaf is much more in the mould of a future higher league DCM than anybody else on our books at the moment and getting him for under a million will look an absolute steal.

Thing is, this whole debate wouldn't have turned up if people didn't decide any old thread was a chance to have a go at Sheaf, I'm not just having a go at you here, but it pops up all the time at the moment and there is no need for it. We don't need to become the Facebook forum.

I would argue that Biamou and Bakayoko weren’t bought on the current model. Rather than the widdrington model.

Jobello was coming on before his injury, and Kastaneer has other issues besides ability.

I’m not saying Sheaf is the best DM in Europe - I’m merely saying that he placed high on the clubs list and was within the club’s price range.

on top of that he was affordable and has proven ability in an English league. In comparison as @Frostie showed previously - he matches up well with Walsh who likely would command a fee of 7 figures

Actually the arguing came about because as per, my opinion was met with smarmy comments and remarks... Fact is we all don't feel the same way about players... Example, I don't understand what a deep lying playmaker is... Actually the opposite is true for example IMG_20210105_181720.png
If sheaf can make better use of the ball, especially forward passes.. Then my argument is based on what I see, a s player that offers not alot in terms of forward play or momentum.

I dont want to argue either BTW, but you do get drawn into it

He isn’t Arsenal good, doesn’t make him a bad player. Arsenal want borderline CL players, we want a player with potential and is ready for the championship.

I agree with your previous point though, he appears to want more time, one extra touch. Coach that out of him and he’ll be a very good player

Give me a second while I move my goalposts.
Not at all, I'm showing you what a good deep lying playmaker can and should be doing... It's not just simply 5 yard passes... It would also show that kroos knows when to put a pass forward and into better areas... That's the reality

Sheaf was the best at his role in League One & a perfect fit for us. Signing him for such a low fee when his midfield partner Ben Whiteman is 2 years older & looks like costing £2-3m should be viewed as a major coup in anyone's books.

Anyway, Matty James...

And the pass that Sheaf made into the box against Stoke (?) for Hamer to get on the end of it was sublime. If you know of a player of his age that can do that and is in our price range please forward to [email protected]

Wow, pointing out Sheaf isn't as good as Pirlo or Kroos 😂

Actually its all relative to the level you play at... What they do at their level, Sheaf can't replicate at his own level, which ofcourse is lower.

A 20 goal striker at this level is ideal, obviously worse than a 20 goal Premier league striker

Was an outstanding pass, one that he just doesn't attempt anywhere near enough... Is kind of my point.

The fact you can pick out his only true outstanding forward pass, is also kind of the point

Also suggesting there aren't many pros that come cheap that can't do that pass, is also very naive..

I assume you're dead against the Matty James signing too?

No, why would I be... Some insane comebacks here... I don't rate sheaf as much as you..is it that difficult for people like yourselves to accept or?

Same way I don't rate biamou as much as most the fanbase, something that many struggle to accept too

I think that it is all about finding the right combination of players in the team. When you list Kelly's strengths, they don't look impressive, but when he isn't there, we miss him.

It’s fine, you don’t rate him bit you’ve made up your mind on him based on reasons you’ve clarified and then been proven aren’t true.

This whole thread was all about Matty James until you used it as a thread to slate Sheaf with your nonsense.

The fact that you misunderstand player roles so much made me think you probably wouldn't rate a player like James because he's not known for the spectacular either.
