Transfer Rumour Zian Flemming

I always rated Flemming in The Championship but I must admit I certainly didn't expect him to take to the Prem like he did. Having someone who's recently 'done it' would be a great pick up but he's also a good lesson for some of our players.
It also shows how it is difficult to predict who will step up.

Hopefully this is announced soon

He’s a good player and would be very happy with this

Flemming was at Millwall for the 22/23 & 23/24 seasons, so yes.

Millwall Partnership
    • Key Player Status: Upon taking charge in November 2023, Edwards highlighted Flemming as central to his plans to invigorate Millwall's attacking output. [1]
    • Tactical Role: Edwards frequently deployed Flemming in advanced midfield or supporting striker roles, balancing the side to maximize Flemming and his fellow forwards' combined threat. [1]
    • On-Field Reliance: Flemming remained a regular contributor under Edwards, scoring important goals—such as an opening header in a 1-1 draw against Preston North End in January 2024—though Edwards' stint at The Den proved short-lived before managerial changes followed later in the season. [1, 2, 3]

hmm let’s hope he liked Joe Edwards!

He's strong, by that I mean he uses his strength, I think it counts for a lot there. EMC is strong and even though he's not really recognised for it, Rudi is too. Our strikers, Wright and Simms, while they look strong I've never felt they really use it and they certainly don't hold up a ball well.
Can’t disagree with that, although would say that Simms got better at this towards the end of the season.

We arent gonna spend £30m on him
Sell Wright to West Ham for £22m… then only £8m to cover.
Or sell Simms for £10m seeming as he’s last year of contract

If we wanna play with the big dogs and stay there we need some firearms

Ipswich spent £26m on a striker

He did well for a poor Burnley team last year and although not the flashiest of signings he puts a shift in and makes the most of what he's got. We could do a lot worse. Would he be a replacement for Simms, as I feel he's the forward with the most similar style?

Obviously depends on what the price would be and I can't imagine he'd be cheap. If Burnley took us for £20m for Tchaouna god knows what they'd be asking for for their top scorer. So I can't see it happening.

Just had a good season at Burnley. I'm sure some randomer from abroad always sounds more exciting but theres something to be said for someone who has just proved they can do well at the level.
Equally, let’s note that all of our strikers scored more goals in 25/26 than Flemming did in 24/25. It stands to reason that our country current strikers could make the step up.

Personally, I think we struggle to get good value from Flemming. Burnley will want £25-30m and at 28, there’s little resale opportunities for a player who may have just had a one off good season in the Prem. It feels risky imo but you’d trust the club to get it right.

Adebayo scored 10 for Luton in the Prem which matched his Championship total in 22/23 in fewer games. It can happen that players just have a one-off season.

didn't flemming spend 24/25 playing for football terrorist Scott Parker?

Over their last 3 Championship seasons, Haji has had a better output than Flemming. Flemming scored 2 more in 24/25 but Haji had a better games:goal ratio by a hair.

They’re both similar ages, so unless we plan to sell Haji, I’m not convinced that Flemming is clearly a better goalscorer.

Striker is an area where I think we should leave it alone unless we have an opportunity to sign a player who’s obviously better than what he have, such as Openda when we were linked.

Striker is an area where I'd prefer to possibly take a bit of a punt on a younger player with the idea they'll develop as they could be worth a fortune in a few years and Wright, Simms and BTA do have a fair amount of experience and could be alright for a first season.

But even young strikers to develop cost 10-20m at PL level and I don't think we've got the funds for that when we've got more pressing issues such as LB, preferably another CB, another LW and another CM/ACM to fit straight into the first team.

I can see the stubbornness in Doug when Frank asks for a striker after our current strikets scored nearly 100 goals last season. Sorry, I just cant see us getting one. Hope I am wrong

As it stands, we are going into the Premier League with a good Championship team. One of the players that can likely step up and make an impact in this division is Wright. I wouldn't be selling him.

If Zain Flemming can maintain his output from Championship to Prem, why can’t Wright, Simms or BTA?

Is spending £30m for a 28 year old who’s had one good season in the Prem? I’m sceptical.
Because Flemming has some technical ability and can actually control a football.

Wright and Simms will always be championship standard at best.

You could apply most of that post to signing Hamer.

On Hamer, deep down I want it mostly for the ego rather than a player who is a game changer in the Prem.

He’d be a good squad player so my absolute maximum is about £10-12m. If we sign Yirenkyi, where does that leave Hamer? 🤔
