I think my exact words the day Robins was sacked were "I hope we don't go for soneone like Lampard. Going for a name never works well for this club..."

Humble pie has never tasted so good.

It was brave at the time, but an incredible master stroke from Doug.

Everyone can have an opinion and at the time there was a lot of sadness / anger.

What annoys me to this day is the people questioning Doug in the fans forum, no issue with the questions per say but the tone was awful,

Especially from Rob and Lorna who allowed their personal opinion and emotions overrule their professional status

I had an emotional reaction to Mark Robins leaving and I liked Lampard from off but big name players from his era weren’t exactly achieving great success like Gerard and Rooney so I was nervous. Looking back now Doug took his time and got the choice 100% right. Fair play to him for that and for getting Lampard in because Frank could afford to be picky and I’m sure he asked a lot if questions I hope we keep Frank as our manager in the Premier League until he leaves to manage England!

It was incredibly brave of King at the time. He was under no pressure from the fans to sack Robins, but did it anyway because it was the right thing to do.
Plenty of owners would’ve done the cowardly thing, and left Robins in charge until the fans turned on him (which would’ve been horrible to see).
Lampard did a great job of then pacifying a fanbase in the mood for mutiny. He got it exactly right in his interviews about how he wanted to move forward, but was also incredibly respectful of what Robins had achieved.
Two great managers in their own way. Lampard couldn’t have done what Robins did, but he is doing what Robins couldn’t

Really good post that.

Them and all their minions (the usual selected lanyarders on the fancast) turned up for a witch hunt but duly had the wind taken out of their sales.

I normally look at as many things as I can before making a decision on if something is good or not.

This time I just knew it was wrong to get rid of Robins and gamble on Lampard. The only facts I needed was we always started slowly with Robins then improved. Lampard had never been a success as a manager.

It's very simple. I couldn't have been any more wrong if I had tried. What a revelation. So much changed so quickly that I wasn't bothered if we lost the playoffs because it certainly looked like we would have a great chance this season after having a full pre season under Lampard. And now it wouldn't be a surprise if we go up as Championship winners and give a decent showing in the Prem next season. Of course this will be up for debate though 😆😁
