I don’t think it’s a system issue, personally. I’d expect a CF to flourish with the amount of balls we put in the box.

Imo, Wright is better off the left. He looked lost up front last season and bar Sunderland at home, has this season.

It’s the system not suiting his strength. We need another option to suit a crowded box when playing against a low block. Not to just bin off Wright.

See i've heard completely different, it's one of the reasons he doesn't bother me.
Was told he is very low maintenance, comes in get's his head down, works hard and follows positional instructions.
Stays behind quite a bit and works with the defenders and some other players on late arrivals in the box and set pieces.

Heard that's one of the reasons Kitching has been given the armband this year too. Staying behind quite a bit working with other players, general all round leadership type of player. Which begs the question as to why he was frozen out for so long. Still baffling to me.

Maybe he's a changed man?
I know he has become mates with Fadz.
Fadz admitted having an attitude problem when he was younger, perhaps he's put him on the straight and narrow.
Just a possible theory, no idea if it's the case.

It's emotion off the back of some big games. I said the other night he should probably be moved on but then thinking about it some more, I wouldn't be bothered if he wasn't. He's got the summer to recharge and get his mojo back..

Yeah, i don't like to suggest without having heard anything, but you'd have to assume something along those lines wouldn't you. Knowing what type of manager he was.

I mean okay, if we break it down: we know he’s not on ridiculous wages based on what people have said and our lower than average wage budget. Costed us 3.5 million pounds.

I could absolutely see a championship side taking a punt on him considering his record last year and age. Might not get that total amount back, but could see him going for 2 million easily to a few championship sides like Wrexham for instance.

Got found out playingwise in that season stand off him and he will give you the ball.
Even Wrexham aren't that daft are they?

This thread is jumping about a bit between different players. So for clarification @Jimmy87 - who are your referring to in your first paragraph?

As strategies go getting rid of your top scorer and best attacker over two seasons is rarely the way to go. If someone had a pop at him in the dressing room afterwards I hope he had a go back about the amount of total jackass goals we concede every game. Wright being hauled over the coals for the play off defeat. The three goals we let in which actually cost us the tie were all evidence of our continually hopeless and naive defending.

I agree with this lets face it he has the attributes to be top notch. I am not sure how severe the injury was that kept him out for months but phsycologically it would no doubt have an effect. I know he scored 3 against Sunderand but other than that all his perfomances have been below par for him. So yep there may be other resons that we are not aware of... but it wouldnt surprise me if some is to do with a bit of trepidation about getting injured again.... Lets hope that a holiday and full pre-season get him in tip top condition.... there is no doubt in my mind that on form and at it he is someone we would want leding the forwards. Frank and his coaching staff see him and speak to him every day so hopefully they make a difference to him

I agree, but he has genuinely been that bad and that is the way the world works, especially in football. If you are paid like he is and don't perform, questions and will be asked and he will be critiqued, rightly so!

Just because Lampards playing someone doesn't mean he rates them. It just means he prefers them to the alternative(s).

Strikers that can put it about and cause defences problems plus score goals are very hard to find. So if you've got someone who gets a fair few goals but doesn't put in the work rate you can put up with it.
But if that striker doesn't come alive when he has the ball then you have a real problem. It isn't about talent, we know he has that, it is about attitude. And from what I have seen it stinks. It is so bad he is detrimental to the team because players are going to want to pass to him. If they do we lose possession, if they don't because they don't trust him he is a distraction.
It is actually worse than playing with 10.
If his head is not on it for CCFC then he has to go.

Wright has been poor the last few games, no doubt. He almost looks like he is carrying an injury - which doesn't make a great deal of sense given how much he's been played and that we have BTA and Simms available.

That makes me think it's just a really bad run of form and possibly psychological too.

There's a lot of people burying him and I think that's added to because his demeanour is mostly quite calm and dispassionate - he's a normally very confident and pretty quiet and calm person. That doesn't mean he doesn't care about the team or his performances.

I'd back Frank as a coach to be able to drive improvement in all of our strikers - but there's no doubt we need better, more consistent performances from every single one of them next season if they're staying. We know Wright is the best finisher and an excellent striker of the ball - he can do this.

Coventry City fans are all saying the same thing about former Everton striker Ellis Simms

All in total agreement...
www.everton.news

Everton sold Ellis Simms to Coventry City for around £8m in 2023.

If that's correct I think they mugged us.

Or maybe the 2nd 3rd and 4th choices looked even less likely to score, I admire you for trying to stick up for one of our players but I am afraid, no matter what anyone says he did not look up for it and continously bottled challenges! Now maybe that was because in the game he got injured it affected his mentality and apart from the obvious 3 goals he scored on his return, he hasn't seemed the same player...or maybe he is already off and didn't want another injury! who knows

A huge chunk of that would've been performance based add-ons.

We presume Frank will want Mason Clark and Sakamoto as starters next season. Buy a new LW (as back up to EMC).
Sell Simms, and let Wright, BTA, & a new signing fight it out for the CF role. Bassette to go on loan.

People don't seem to be able to grasp that this isn't Lampard's squad.

He'll want to mould it to suit the way he wants to play and those that aren't deemed a good fit will be moved on if there are suitors.

Which is why I think we can probably expect a fair amount of movement in the summer and it wouldn't shock me if there's one or two surprises in that mix.

Yep that’s how I feel about it
£3-3.5 is not a lot for a young English potentially good striker
Id be excited if we bought another similar person for a similar wage

Exemplary attitude doesn't seem to have been enough to prevent him being totally frozen out of the playoff games though? Given the dominant way the team played, I think there's every chance he could have helped us get into the final.

It isn't correct, it was £8m with add-ons and given that it seems unlikely any of those are being achieved, we have mugged them.

TBH reading sort of between the lines it seems Haji has spit his dummy and Ellis is the victim of that. Since his injury it’s noticeable Wright has been played at CF even when it made more sense not to (BTA wide left for example, or BTA instead of Simms on). Either Lampard really likes him there or there’s pressure from the player.

From what AV said while he was here in an interview once he implied that Wright had no preference as to where he played

Donning my tin foil hat here.

If Haji is deployed at LW there's little chance of him featuring regularly in the WC given who's ahead of him.

If he's starting week in week out at CF however... possibly a different story.
