I am very happy

Wright is not on top of his game. Our best player, Rudoni, is out injured.

And yet we are four points clear at the top of the table.

Doesn't that just make you salivate at the thought of Rudoni back and Wright back on top form again?

I thought Wrights performance improved last night. His best since the international break and actually won some headers too. Not his best game for us, but definitely improved from what he's been of late

Haji was all over the pitch last night, defending our box, dropping deep to get the ball in MF during the 2nd half, since he was getting nothing much up top and he still had the energy for the final break. I thought he had a very good game.

I disagree.
I think part of it is how well he started, Lampard bigged him up when he came back from international duty and I was convinced we were set to see a really special season from him, but since then his performances have dipped.

I thought he was really poor first half but very good second half (not alone there tbf).

I think the return of Rudoni will have a big impact for Wright. They link up really well and Rudi will create a lot of chances for him.

Was poor at Wrexham
He was linking things up all night
Should have scored his header but he was fine
1 minute gone he was offside and the 2 guys behind who probably were a bit racist decided he was a lazy c**t thankfully they didn’t insert black
He was ok

“Woman” being me was going mental at him all game, for that chance she claimed “how could anyone miss that it was right in front of the goal”. I’m guessing she’s not speaking my from years of pro football experience.

I think I watched a different game; he was incredibly frustrating again last night. Has the ability to be head and shoulders above any striker in this league, but doesn’t show it enough.

The anonymity is annoying. As are the offsides and half arsing 50/50 challenges.

I get he isn’t a target man and long, direct balls aren’t his game, but he can still impact the game more.

The argument re creatives behind him; Torp played last night and nothing changed.

In his defence, he had more touches last night (based on an eye test, not looked at stats) as he was dropping deeper to receive the ball, so he was obviously keen to get involved. But we need more movement from him eg the third goal, his angled his run perfectly.

And that’s the frustration, he can do it, we just need it for more than 10% of a game.

I also get why Lampard keeps him on, as despite his lack of involvement he does have the ability to be a match winner.

Best sum up his game. Very mixed. Some good moments and some bad. That's just him though. He's been like that from the begginung.

Wouldnt swap him though.

The noise around Wright is incessant.

The man is on track to score more goals in fewer games than Gyokeres but if he lays an assist on a plate for a teammate we have to go over the same tired points again and again.

It's the type of player he is, they'll always be this noise around him unless he starts being more consistent.
Admittedly that might see him on his way sooner.

He might well pass Matty Godden's goal tally this season too. Only McSheffrey would have more in this era...

He's not been the same player without Rudi in the team... Clearly struggles when he has BTA playing in behind him but BTA absolutely thrives with Haji ahead of him. Haji occupies the CBs leaving the space for BTA to run in to, whereas Rudi takes his time on the ball to draw defenders out to give Haji the space to run in to.

The sooner Rudi is back the better. We have two attack pairing who must be the most prolific pairs in the league despite only playing half the games with each other.

I've just looked at the numbers on this:
With Rudi in Behind Haji he's scored 5 in 5, with Rudi scoring 2 in 5, and we won 2 of them.
With BTA behind or alongside Haji he's scored 1 in 7, with BTA scoring 8 in 7, and we won 6 of them.
With Eccles in behind him he's scored 2 in 2, with 2 wins.

Wright had a much better game.

The only blip was the missed header. Even in that first half he created a couple of chances and nearly got on Kitchings header.

The workrate was a lot better and his defending at set pieces was as important as anything else.

Its nonsense to suggest we could do without him - he will always be a goal threat

That wasn't his only blip.
Getting caught offside when he had a perfect view along the line, the cross/shot whatever it was after having the nerve to bolllock Dasilva.

I think he has spells where he struggles to concentrate for 90 minutes for whatever reason.

Like others have said he's having to adapt without a natural creator behind him, which is where he thrives.

He did his role well, worked hard and got an assist.

When Rudoni is back I'm sure the goals will come back.

Yes he would. Lots of people saying they wouldnt want him back but he would be excellent - if unrealistic - as cover for Rudoni as you say.

On Wright, apologies if already discussed; why is he caught offside so often?

Let's be honest, we've got 3 strikers who have given us periods of absolute dross.
I'm loving the Asante ascendancy but still keep expecting him to return to factory mode at some point, even if only for a spell. .

We really need Wright on his game and firing.

Unfortunately if Wright was firing every game he wouldnt be at us.

When hes not, putting in performances like yesterday are enough.

Hes still scored a lot of goals this year, but I think if we went up he wouldnt be the nailed on striker.

He plays off the hip so he’s trying to use his acceleration to pull away from the defender

They usually very marginal calls too. He'll hover off but come back on and try again. It doesn't always payoff but he's almost always aware (unlike, say, EMC) As you say, he'll use his explosive pace but to have that in the tank he also needs to conserve his energy. People often mistake that for laziness or 'drifting'. To me he's more like a sprinter than a cross country runner!

He plays on the shoulder of the last man when we break and so gets caught out by good defensive lines. Also a little guilty of not getting back on side after our play breaks down, then if we win posession back quickly and play direct, he's caught again.

I'm not overly concerned by the offsides, it happens to lone strikers up and down the country every matchday.

Even my kid spotted this last night! Twice first half he looked surprised the ball was at his feet even though he'd moved into position to receive it! Is who he is, I think. His link up play last night was good esp. second half.

I thought he was much better in general play last night. Dropped in quite a few times and did some nice 2/3 touch link ups. But I don't think we're going to see his best work without proper control in the midfield and a creative player in the advanced/10 role.
