They've really fucked up by farming out the World Cup to joke countries like Qatar and USA.

I really don't see the issue with rotating it around the major football nations, and then other actual football nations, in Africa for example.

Even the other joke countries could actually guarantee the safety of fans and easy entry during the tournament

What's a 'major footballing nation' when it's at home? Mexico certainly is one.

Exactly.

America, Qatar, Saudi Arabia can get in the bin.

FIFA don't need to "grow the game"..... aka cream as much money as possible.... they're already doing a good job of that.

Just hold it in nations with a football heritage and the ability/infrastructure to host a good world cup.

France, Italy, UK, Germany, Spain, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, North Africa, Mexico, Uruguay, and so forth (apologies any i've missed out, but you get the drift)

I might be in the minority but I enjoyed the winter world cup
I hated it.

World cups should be all about the beer garden, long sunny days with football on and an atmosphere with everybody on the same side for a change.

Watching it at home, frozen in some tent or so packed in a pub you can't move wasn't it.

I maintain that Australia would be a fantastic World Cup host. Incredible stadiums already, sport mad culture and you play it in the northern hemisphere summer when it's cooler down there.
I do not think it will ever happen as good as it would be

Would be too inconvenient for the rest of the World to watch it in terms of time zones etc.

Going to reading away then back home to see us play France was strange.

I don’t want it to be a fully ‘closed shop’ of countries and USA does have the infrastructure and a growing domestic game, so no fundamental issue with them having been awarded it. What I really don’t like is that they’ve bastardised the 2030 World Cup to take 3 continents out of rotation in one go just so they can whore it out to Saudi in 2034. Should have been Argentina/Uruguay in 2030, maybe Northern Africa (Morocco/Algeria/Tunisia) in 2034, Europe (would be interested in a Scandinavian WC) in 2038 and then back to Asia in 2042.

Argentina and Uruguay would be an incredible pair of destinations.

In the time since we last hosted it, multiple countries have hosted it on multiple occasions (thinking Mexico, Germany, USA).

Bit ridiculous to be honest.
Uefa should just expand the Euros to 32 teams and offer 8 invitational places out... get the winners/runners up of the last couple of continental tournaments. Then we'll have a nice tournament every 4 years full of decent teams, Playing in nice weather at sensible times with a simple group format with none of this 3rd place in a 4 team group progressing to the KOs bollocks.

32 World Cup was pretty much perfect. Meant there was actually something to play for in qualification and a risk a 'big' team might miss out. Now its just a formality.

2 games a day was ideal, even then it was often hard to sustain interest until the knockout stages. Now there will be an insane number of games some days.

Who looked at the existing format and thought what we need to do is add 40 additional games and make most of the group games meaningless.

Yeah they should all be 16 or 32 although 64 teams into a straight knock out tournament would be great.... drama straight from the off. Bound to be a couple of shocks. 4 games a day for 8 days then dropping to 3 and then 2. Basically an international FA Cup.... could even have a 128 team knock out round the year before in the host country.

All centred around getting more TV money in isn’t it?

With them making it as unpalatable as they can to travel, the lack of local interest and high sky ticket prices alongside some awful fixtures I can see some very embarrassing attendances.
