Same here.

I didn't want to enter it because I thought it must be wrong, but there it was.

I think it's because we only think of it as part of a bigger word, this is the singular term.

Got it in 4. Got the last 2 letters early on, not in the right places, but it became fairly clear after all the letters I’d used in the first 3 goes, where they went in 4 and what went with them.

or, I was just lucky

Without giving too much away,
it's another name for a picture icon, mark or symbol. Road signs are good examples. Man digging road.
That's a ***** .

As Johnny says, we're more used to the term attached to ancient civilizations and their written texts,
such as the Egyptians and their hieroglyphs

Was on a break off site, waiting for a client to arrive. Haven't played this for nearly 2 years I think but decided hey I'll have a look at Wordle. F'k me, only cracked it in one with one of my old starting words. Very lucky.

Wow! Only once ever did it in two.

I usually get it in only one each time.

I 'usually' get it in 4 (100 times ahead of 3 and 5). Have failed to get it 3 times (each time when I've not been concentrating and made an obvious error)

Does anyone play it on the "hard mode"? Ironically it seems to be easier.

Press the settings symbol at the top of the page, and it should be the first option.

Set it to 'hard' and got it in 3, lol ! The hard setting just reduces the scattergun use of letters, though if you miss getting them early on, I guess it reduces your chance of solving the word.

Yeah exactly, it stops you from rushing it and makes you spend time thinking about sensible options for words.

Agree that it makes you consider the second selection more, but not yet sure which I'm going to prefer. I always start with ADIEU and STORY as the first two words, unless the first selection effectively discounts some of the letters in STORY. Obviously can't necessarily do that with the 'HARD' version.
