Yep another player through the loan market, how many are we allowed in one season?

Steven Pressley is set to draft in more defensive cover for the Sky Blues after the ever-present Jordan Willis has been ruled out for up to three weeks.
The home-grown talent tore his right hamstring against Notts County at the weekend which has forced him to sit out for the first time this season.
“It’s a disappointment because he’s been the only ever present – other than Jim O’Brien who missed one JPT match – but he’s likely to be out for three weeks,” said the City boss.
Willis’s absence opens the way for Aaron Phillips to be considered for a run at right-back but Pressley is also keen to recruit an emergency loan before Thursday week’s cut-off point for bringing in temporary players before the January transfer window.
“There’s Aaron who we are looking at in that position and we are also considering bringing someone in for the duration of the next period up until January because we have been a little bit short in a number of areas in recent weeks and had to go with no defenders on the bench at times,” said the manager.
“The injuries have really stretched the squad so, potentially, we’ll bring in a another player between now and a week on Thursday.”

but remember, the good news is that he will only bring in players with the right attitude...

you know, like Akpom, Donnelly, Miller, Jackson etc

Imagine how many loan players we would have if he liked to sign them!

Policy is cost first and then attitude a very distant second.

Is it 10 loan players over the course of a season, but only 5 in a match day squad at a time? Something along those lines. We must be close to reaching that quota already and it's not even Christmas yet!

Who've we got / had?

Alsopp
Coulibaly
McQuoid
Martin
Nouble

(Sure there's more than that.....)

I think its 5 in the match day squad.

This is the bit that I find irritating

" because we have been a little bit short in a number of areas in recent weeks and had to go with no defenders on the bench at times,” said the manager.

We shipped out a defender to bring one in, and with all those loans we have yet to cover the need to have (a) a midfield "enforcer" (b) some real creativity in midfield (c) some pace wide with ability to cross properly(d) defensive cover (e) a decent keeper .......

SP is making the decisions isn't he?

It seems like it, especially the bring players in and change the formation just after ones.

The thing I don't understand is that surely there are any number of free agents that need a gig that could do a job for us even on non-contract terms just to get their careers back on track. Surely they've got to be better bet than a loanee who's likely to think 'Yer whatever, you lunatic Jock, I'm getting 10k+ a week from x'?!

Given Pressley's questionable ability to pick a good player perhaps it time for Leonard Brody's 'text a loanee'

Sean St Ledger without a club
Darren O'Dea without a club

think both are still part of ROI squad

Mark Marshall and Petresso ?

they were here perhaps they didn't want to stay? Perhaps Petresso's parent club wanted him to gain experience by going out to various clubs?

Perhaps Marshall just got a better deal at Port Vale?

That doesn't tell us anything in reality....reading between the lines there could be several reasons for ending the 'interest'. The fans rarely find out the truth, here or at any club.

Pressley told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner: Michael Petrasso’s agent contacted me two days ago. “He was a player we were interested in but with the change in the system to 3-5-2 he’s now not a requirement for us."

That doesnt tell us anything ?

Sean St Ledger and Abdoulaye Faye both free agents, both played at top level in defence , and Tomas Kuszczak (GK) also without a club, I know they would have been on big money, but with no transfer fee and getting rid of Tudgay, Miller and Jackson should help?

Marshall was pretty mediocre and there is no way that port vale are paying him more than Jackson, Swanson, O Brian or Tudgay. Pressley wanted to shore up the defence and play 3 - 5 - 2 so neither would get in the team. Same for Baker

Personally I'm not sure we should be bringing in free agents now in late November. Having not had a pre season, and not trained with intensity at a club for 7-8 months it would IMO take them too long to get up to speed and get their fitness to the required level. For that reason I'm out.

Fair comment, but I always thought St Ledger was a decent player. I'd be tempted. As for Kusczak, I'd go for it - I reckon goalkeepers can probably get without the need for quite so much conditioning (I'm thinking of Oggy here, and his 20 B&H a day habit!).

I doubt we could afford them but I would take both until the end if the season if we could get them.

Agree about the keeper angle, as long as they have decent core strength they should be ok. Just think it would be a big risk for outfield players, unless you're signing them mainly for next season. Not sure if St Ledgers had injury problems but just a quick glance at his wiki it looks as though he's played just 19 games in the last 2 seasons, I agree he always looked decent to me too. Faye played just 7 times last season and turns 37 in Feb!!

There would be an issue with getting up to speed/fitness and increased likelihood of injury due to their lack of fitness.

So what if CCFC had a player who had who had been injured towards the end of last season and then got over the injury in say November, would you say that he couldn't play for the rest of the season? If it is a professional footballer is good enough then it wouldn't take them that long to get upto speed because most of the frees keep themselves in good shape in case they get called upon and match sharpness is something that can come in a matter of games. I suppose you would rather a PL player say like Delfounseo (if that's how you spell it) who comes straight from another club and people think he will be great and turns out to be complete shit?
