Who to keep and who to let go (1 Viewer)

I think unless we win the next 2 games the season is over.

I always thought the gap after the start was too great and also in several key areas we lack sufficient quality.

We have lossed to many average teams at home this season and conceded poor and sloppy goals. As I don't go to away games I have not seen a great season at all to be honest.

Any new manager will change things anyway but who would we like to retain and who to go to ensure funds are available for new players?

For me murphy, Christie, Adams, Leon and Jordan Clarke, Thomas, Jennings, baker are worth keeping.

The rest I'm afraid can all be released and we start again.

Worth keeping: Murphy, Dunn* Christie, Clarke, Cameron*, Wood**, Adams, Baker, Barton*, Fleck, Moussa, Thomas, Leon Clarke. Rest of them can go.

* for the bench
** if he accepts a big wage cut

Hopefully we can bring in a couple o' wingers, CBs and a striker, and hopefully Philliskirk or Wilson fancy stepping up.

Based on yesterday? Or all season? Players from yesterday are not a team that will get into the play offs so.
Keep.

Murphy, Christie, L Clarke, Dickinson, Jennings.

Get rid

Bailey, Moosa, McSheffery, Baker, Elliot, Edge, Fleck,

Very much depends what happens with the next managerial appointment-I imagine most players will be given a clean slate to show their worth before being shown the door.

Things were so bad yesterday I was even thinking get McDonald back.

I would add Bailey and Mouss to that list.

I know Bailey hasn't played well the last couple of games or so, but over the season he has been one of our best players.

Yep agree it depends on the manager and type of football they want to play but the only ones I would keep or to the point disappointed to lose is

Murphy, J Clarke, christie, L Clarke, Thomas, Adams, moussa, and possibly baker and Jennings.

Would like to keep bailey but he's not our player.

Totally agree. Bailey has done well for us and pulled the strings in midfield. Elliot has done well recently and works very hard for the team.

Which a new manager could well end up doing. Unless you have a few stand out quality players then managerial skill is absolutely vital-Robins had it, but his predecessor sure didn't and Carsley as caretaker is unlikely to have it either at this moment in time. Consequently the next appointment's what will decide our prospects next season-barring a miraculous change in home form this season is a write off.

I excluded bailey only as he is a loaned player and I forgot moussa.

Players will likely need to leave anyway so that FFP can be satisfied-as I said, it'll be a case of who shows their worth to the new manager.

Absolutely agree. Bailey has been outstanding in some games. He maybe having a quiet patch now but all players do. I agree with Gren's list but would add Bailey and Moussa.

I genuinely believe we have an excellent keeper in Murphy and would prefer him to Westwood. Murphy makes some excellent stops and is particularly good in those one-to-one situations. I think we have some good players who could be the basis of a good team but there are many who just can't cut in, particularly in defence. Edge is pretty one-dimensional as is Cameron and Wood to some extent. I'd personally give Malaga another shot, we haven't got anything to lose.

I'm surprised Fleck or Barton isn't on anyone's list, they have been disappointing, but they have shown glimpses of class to warrant themselves to stay, Barton has 3 fantastic goals, Fleck has 6 assists, so their output hasn't been too bad for the games they've played and in Fleck's case, he has been played out-of-position which is sad. Also, they are young players with potential, not some wash-ups like Sheff. I bet they're cheap to keep as well.

When the premiership was formed in 1992 our squad had the likes if John Williams, julien Darby, Steve Morgan and David Rennie. Not names you would know bit that team would lose to our present team 9 times out of 10.

In 20 years the game has moved on. Fitness diet and discipline are now essentials for a modern day professional.

Fleck would have been in our team 20 years ago and that is what he reminds me of. A player from another era. He needs to shape up or ship out.

Barton was a ridiculous signing from the off.

Big Micky Quinn an even better example.

Fleck has, to be fair to him, has lost weight and looks slimmer, and fitter, do you agree with that? I do think having Thorn as manager in preseason didn't help anything, fitness under him was atrocious, for even our most most athletic players, I think that was down to management.

Fleck and Barton have shown they have ability, Fleck is our second top assister and has some good assists to his name, he and Moussa ran the midfield v MK Dons and we haven't been so dominant in midfield since! Barton has shown he can be a good player, playing very well v Donny, Bury and Colchester (in his cameo) I think they need games and we're not giving them what they need. Same with Thomas.

After the last 2 months, surely you'd agree that we need a midfield overhaul?

Pretty much everyone else can leave on the basis we get someone better in which won't be hard for a lot of them, keep some of the young kids like Willis and Wilson to see how they progress over the next 2 years

Barton appears to be a total waste of wages. Half the time he doesn't even make the bench.

Part of that is due to playing 4-4-2 (NOTE: not having a dig at 4-4-2 I'm just stating the obvious) one less midfielder starting, one less midfielder on the bench.

I don't think he's been given a fair crack at the whip yet, he's proven, somewhat, at Championship and L1 (with PNE).

That is true.

And though McSheffrey has had a poor season overall, you have to say he is still a better option than Fleck out on the left.

The bottom line is that neither Barton or Fleck would be missed if they left the club tomorrow.

You could argue that, they have been disappointing, but I think it'd be a missed opportunity for the club, they are 2 players, if we got them playing, we could sell them for massive profit, I hope the new manager gives everyone a chances and whips everyone into shape and into line.

On the left? Easily, I have said he isn't a winger, I think Moussa should play there, like we did in November and December, with Moussa and Sheff swapping but for some baffling reason(s), on behalf of the management, they stuck to their positions and didn't alternate, a massive shame.

Murphy
Adams
Jennings
Bailey
Thomas - & he can count himself lucky.
Moussa

We needed a major clear out at the end of last season to better prepare us for this season.

Murphy
Barton (but use him)
Malaga (maybe if we actually see him play and it is the Sheff Utd Malaga)
Christie
Clarke
Bailey if we can get him
Adams
Clarke
Elliott
Baker
Willis
Henderson
Cameron
Cody (but play him, in a two up front)
Moussa
Fleck (again only if he is going to play 10 games on the bounce, no good as a squad player)
Jennings.
Sheff and Wood if their wages are halved.

Most importantly get a manager who wants to play these lot.
Keep that one manager for a season, allow them to add their own and see if they are capable if promotion.

Keep all that lot, then where's the funds coming for the manager to add his own signing? The FFP % is decreasing next season, along with probably our crowds. Your basically only losing bell and edge.

We aren't far off having a decent team so there is no need for any drastic changes. Central defence needs changing and with Woods high wage it's a no brainier for me that he should go along with Fleck and Barton who aren't up to it. Bailey will I'm sure be off which is a shame but he will at least take Ball with him. So in summary 2 new central defenders, a better creative central midfield option and another striker (could even be Cody) and we will be good to go. Just not sure where to.

The only 'creative' central midfielders we have are Barton and Fleck, both have ability, both have shown glimpses of class, but people in this country, generally don't have the patience for these players, they want people who give 100% but not necessarily have the skills, I'll give you an example for today's CCFC, Elliott v Clarke. Fleck has got more assists than anyone in our team bar Baker, and Baker has played nearly every game this season, Barton has 3 goals, more than Sheff, yet, no one says he isn't up to it, 1 goal in 26 and he was meant to 'tear this league apart', with Sheff, he doesn't even have these moments of class like he did last season, for the wage he's on, he'd be one the 1st people out of the door for me, as with Wood, Bell and possibly Baker (getting old).

Every player should be giving a 100%, regardless of who they are or how skilful they are. Surely that's the minimum requirement expected from a professional footballer?
