Gotta keep riding this momentum but selling sheaf is starting to look a dick move, letting him go with no replacement

Rudoni torp eccles injury worries and we are a centre mid short , who can fill in?? Allen and Andrews?

that said Octobers fixtures look very winnable

I think we look better with Grimes, Torp Rudoni than we did/would've with Grimes Sheaf Rudoni.

Really odd OP in my opinion as I think we look good and Allen, Eccles, Andrews are perfect standins when injuries occur such as now.

On what evidence is Andrews a perfect stand in?

I agree but if torp and rudoni miss games we will drop points the odd fill in is ok but we are light, if grimes gets hurt then we are fucked

On the couple of appearances he's made he looks a great one for the future. He's composed and technically able. He's also probably 3rd choice in his position and to have that level as 3rd choice isn't a bad option in my opinion.

Not really. He was on the treatment table alot. He certainly wouldn’t be keeping the others out of the side.

I wouldn't say hes really made an impact. He's untested. Its a bit of a gamble. he may be fine, he may not.

Fair comment but not replacing him was stupid

The trouble is that Grimes was the replacement for now.

Let’s just say what we’re all thinking: there’s a Gus Hamer shaped hole in our squad that needs filling.

The same Sheaf that was taken off after 75 then 60 mins in Wrexham's last two games? It's looking like a great deal

Same as the other 22 teams that don’t have him in their squads. Oh and the one that does is currently 13 points behind us.

Not a dig at you Shmmeee on this as plenty of others have said it but I really had this notion that there's a Gus Hamer sized hold that needs filling.

He was great for us but his style of play was great for us (and is for SU by and large) but that's not the only way of playing.

With Grimes and Torp, we're more than covered there now. I know it's two players vs one player but Hamer had a poor disciplinary record (and yes, still did well). Grimes has hardly missed a game since he was born by the sounds of it and Torp has come on massively in the last 12 months since FL is here.

I think we need to stop saying we need to replace Hamer...we have. Just with different options to Hamer.

How do we know he ain't?
Maybe he gets a chance and grabs it with both hands??? Who knows.

Hes impressed Lampard enough to be kept here rather than be loaned out, so I trust the gaffer's opinion.

If called upon Saturday its only likely to be for 1 game, and its Sheffield Wednesday, not Barcelona.

EMC (just as important as Torp) and Rudoni have missed the last two and we've picked up 6 points, scoring 7 and conceded none.

We'll be fine.

Not had a chance tho. But when he has come on he’s been tidy and doesn’t look out of place.

Wales manager seen enough to call him up to the full squad.

Cant right him off before given a chance.

And yes he is more than good enough to step up.

He’ll arguably be better than Eccles and probably Shesf too.

Yes, there certainly should have been a replacement.
We have a 2 week break after Saturday so let's hope they can patch up the midfield wounded over that period.

Similar to all the other teams in The Championship injuries to key players has an impact. For whatever reason our transfer targets in the summer window didn't come off . Get past the Wednesday game and then hopefully the injured are fit enough to return after the IB. The stand in players have done well to date and fingers crossed we manage to get our targets over the line in January.

You have to let this go.

Players of Hamer's quality are as rare as hens' teeth at this level.

We were never going to get a player that brings all the things he brought.

We did what we needed to; invested across the squad and adjusted our style accordingly.

He's coming back from injury. He's probably not fully match fit.

Sure he'll be a quality signing for them. It was a good deal for all concerned.

do we really miss Gus? the amount of yellows he got made him a liability at times, plus the way that torp/rudoni have progressed i feel we have better options now.

The squad options we do possess are good. We just need one or two more

But we wouldn't be in this position had we sold best players in summer so maybe be glass half full about it I say

Injuries may catch us out or we may find that Allen and Andrews are perfectly capable, let's actually see what happens maybe? I was a bit concerned when we let Sheaf go with no replacement coming in but of Andrews is deemed good enough for international football he may just be fine at this level.

In all seriousness if we want to be a top side we need what we’ve got at GK and in defence (and arguably at ST) in midfield as well. Maybe not Gus, but quality CM in the same way Dovin, Wolf, KKH, etc are quality backups would go a long way to us making it through the season.

No don’t think so-was running through treacle at the end of the first half and rightly taken off early in the second half. Maybe 2 games in a short space of time caught up with him a bit after being out for a while.

Funnily enough, I know of a guy called Gus Hamer that's pissing his career away in South Yorkshire!
