So, many people, before he signed, while he was here, and now he's gone, said that Marlon King should never be allowed to play football again. This implies there should be some ruling deciding whether a player can play football after committing a crime. So, at what point should a player be stopped from playing football? Any crime? Any prison sentence? Any crime where someone is physically harmed? Any prison sentence longer than X months?

If Marlon can get anyway with it anybody will. But we have to say to ourselves the majority of us didnt care about his offences when he joined so it would be the same for everyone.

If Lee Hughes is still playing after his crime I'm sure any footballer has a chance back into football after a prison sentence.
The legal system won't touch that can of worms, it's purely for the sports governing bodies to set up some sort of set of guidelines.
I know Australian super league have a very tough policy on certain types of offences carrying life bans. The NFL also has behavioural policies in place too.
FIFA, UEFA and the FA are the ones who can make the rules hard and fast but I wouldn't hold your breath!!!

la la la has it right....Lee Hughes is the benchmark here, Marlon is nothing. If they are playing for your side, you don't really care what they've done in the past. This faux moral outrage about footballers gets bloody annoying, why are they held up as paragons of virtue yet entertainers in other fields can do all sorts and not a word is said.

Exactly my thoughts. I put on a previous post that although Marlon commited a crime, it wasnt half as bad as what Hughes done (in my opinion). I dont condone what he did, but hitting someone (irrespective of gender) and murder (which although he wasnt convicted of, it is essentially what Hughes did, along with disabling another, amongst a hit and run , plus drug / drink fuelled driving) there is a huge difference.
If he was allowed back into his former profession, King and other professional footballers have nothing to worry about.
It is a difficult issue though. Its like saying if you get sent down, you cannot return to the same type of work upon your release. Does that mean you can get a job in a different profession?? If so, whats the difference? What does your job description matter, they're still allowed to work.
Best scenario would be is after your release, they shud be made to do so many hours unpaid work, and give something back to us tax payers who have paid for their stay in prison. Rather than them be released and start filling their pockets again.
In a real world, it'll never change though!

Surely it isn't a case of him 'not being allowed to play football again' but more a case of him 'not being allowed to play for my team'.
You can't ban anyone from any job once they've done their time unless they are sex offenders and it's working with kids.
Or spies applying for a job with MI6.

I bought my shirt at the weekend. Does anyone actually buy the full Kit? The shorts are £20.00, the Shirt is £35.00 Socks are probably £10-15.00. It stacks up to quite a lot and TBH you are gonna look a right muppet wearing that lot at Wetherspoons.
