When Saturday Comes - Spoilt for Choices? (3 Viewers)

Just wondering a lot of people are talking about jigging about the defence but not many seem to be juggling midfield and strikeforce which let's face it have been the weakest areas ofl the team to date.

With players coming back to fitness in these areas I am also wondering if some players seen us undroppable .....Bell, Clingan, Juke should even have a rest and start on the bench? With Deegan, McSheff, Baker, Platt & Eastwood playing earlier today would not mind seeing some of these in to pressure others.

It is tricky but assuming they are all fit I think this is prob the team I would go with.

Murphy
Keogh RB
McPake CB
Wood CB
Hussey LB
Clingan DCM (Only because Bigi is injured)
Deegan RM
Bell LM
McSheff ACM
Juke CF
Platt CF (But if McDonald started due to goal would not have a problem with it

Subs: Dunn, Platt, Eastwood, Baker, Christie

It is an attacking bench but would like Thorn to react quicker and juggle things about more if things are not working out in midefield and attack in particular.

What do others think?

praying for a good result on Saturday before I see the boys down the Den...pusb?

I would have the team you have stated but with Mcdonald for Platt, on the bench I would have Dunn, Cameron, Thomas, Baker, Platt

I'm confused about Eastwood, because CWR on Saturday had said he'd gone. Lo and behold there he is playing for the reserves today.

Yea they are complete clowns.
They kept saying the club had released him in one sentence. Then in the next they would say Eastwood has been training with the squad the day before.

when a player is released like he was they stay at the club until a club comes in and say's we'll take him and bay his wages he's on free transfer like joey barton for newcastle

fair enough I thought released meant he would no longer be on the wage bill or with the club in any way.
I would just call that made available on a free transfer like we did with Doyle.

The reserve game is simply about keeping him 'match fit' in the hope that someone will take him on loan. Even if it means us still paying some of his ridiculous wages then it will be better than all of them, but if he's totally unfit nobody will take him.

No, plonker Linnell erroneously said he's been "given a free transfer", only to back-track later on and say "we must stress, he is still at the club".
What it actually means in reality is that if a club wants to come in and take over his contract, we won't ask for a fee.

On Saturday, I agree with the OP about McPake but it depends how fit he is. The same could be said about most of our options. I hope Deegan is fit, but think Thomas deserves another chance. As I've said elsewhere, I thought his pressing and tackling first half was sublime, as reflected in the (non-partisan) Sunday Mercury match report. It was interesting to see something like that highlighted when not a soul on here deemed it fit to pass comment on. Is Thomas the ball-winner we have been lacking? I think he and Deegan (when fit) look like our best central-two in this formation as their games are the most multi-faceted.

I'd normally be desperate to see McSheffrey back as he's our only natural "hole" player, but he's been complete and utter pish this season (Reading game aside, when he was as good as he's been in ages). At least Bell tackles, keeps the ball, and doesn't fall over all the time like Sheff has this season.

McPake is obviously not fully fit and thus shouldn't start. We know exacty how crap is when we play him less than 100%. A couple of friendliest isn't enough football when you've been out or as long as he has.

i disagree because if i remember correctly that against burnley it was partly his fault we let in one of the goals AT said and as for sheffs i would rather him in the hole and bell in central midfield! Due to the fact sheffs is faster and is more of a goal threat where as bell is a passer and crosser

He has been back in training for a couple of weeks now and has had a decent pre-season, I don't see why he wouldn't be fit enough to at least be considered.

Nope, AT said one of the goals was Bigi's fault, nothing to do with Bell.

I would like to see McPake and Deagan both start. We need a bit of steel and determination in the team. We have been too 'nice' so far this season.

I did wonder what CWR were on about. Being told you are 'free to find another club' does not mean 'been freed from the club'.

Id say he's def still on our books because I seen him leaving with his family after the Burnley game. Now if you'd been released by the club, who have told your no longer part of its plans, would you go out of your way to go and support them? Not like he's a Cov kid, so I doubt he'd choose to go and watch us (unless of course he got his kids a season ticket each thinking they would see their daddy as the clubs number 1 striker :) )
