Such a critical player. Our most in my opinion. If he got suspended or injured who or what would be the cover? Without Sheaf nobody really springs to mind. Would it require a change of formation?

Don't even wanna think about it. Long term injury to him truly could derail us

Grimes in my opinion is the difference between not just autos / play offs but top 10.

The most important part of a team that I have known in 40 years of watching the club.

Such a good signing.

I presume you're trolling.

There is no like for like player in our squad and probably not in the league either. If Grimes is missing at any point as the squad is at present, we would either change formation and play 3 centre backs, or try and play Eccles or Allen in a more defensive role.

It'd be the biggest loss in the squad, and I don't think that's any exaggeration. We're not just talking about a cog in the machine, he's the entire bloody engine!

Thankfully, Grimes’ durability is elite. He’s been playing 40+ games a season since the season we went down to L2. At a rough guesstimate, he’s missed about 15 games in the last 8 seasons through injury/suspension/wasn’t picked.

In the absolute worst case scenario, Lampard will find a way to adapt the team. Most on here wouldn’t have expected our Jan-Feb from last season missing; Sheaf, Haji and EMC.

We’d just play Jamie Allen there and win 9 out of 10.

When you have a player with the qualities Grimes has and appearance records; it is hard to have a suitable replacement waiting who is hardly going to play.

Maybe you just have to tweak the tactics a little The best choices we have would be, Torp, Eccles or Latibeaudier. We all know none of those would be as good. But sometimes you just have to accept the player coming in is going to be different and not a carbon copy.

its quite surprising how quickly he became so valuable, an average grimes in a match seems to be head and shoulders above any decent performance from sheaf.

What’s really impressive is that he was identified and brought in as it wasn’t a position where there was a consensus we needed a player.

Yeah, don't think we've got anyone who could fill in to anywhere near the required level.
If the worse happened wouldn't be surprised to see us go 5 3 2 or even 5 4 1

Not ideal to lose Grimes, but if shit happens, Torp drops deeper and plays that position and Rudoni partners BTA in front of him, and we continue to piss the league.

Sorted!

Would we bollocks.

But if I recall we conceded 3 goals at Wrexham last week with Grimes in the team, and 3 goals at Derby when he played as well,

If he gets injured. Of course hed be a massive loss, but Frank would find a way, just like Sheffield Utd picked up more points without Hamer than they did before his injury.
