In terms of a moment that DOES haunt me, that Ballard goal went straight through me like no other. I couldn't even react, no throwing my arms up, dropping to my knees, shouting. Just a thousand yard stare to the sound of 45,000 Sunderland fans going mental and a hole opening up in the pit of my stomach.

I just stood there with no real response. Clapped the team then walked back to the car.

The Sheffield untied cup game away as well. I remember seeing loads of their fans leaving up the street to our left then they scored and then trying to get back in.

I’ll add Luton away when we lost when Dublin went to Villa as well. Shit day. Shit ground.

I left the second i saw Dabo walking towards the spot. Just knew he was missing. Me and the kids walking into the concourse at Wembley, hearing the Luton cheer and just saying 'knew it'

The Torp disallowed goal wins it by a long way. It was never offside and il go to my grave saying that. We were robbed of the greatest ever comeback in football history. Myself, the kids, my cousin all together, all crying our eyes out in disbelief shock and pride at what we had just seen. Hugging randomers also in floods of tears, the pure unrivalled joy. I still cannot and dont think I ever will be able to put into words that feeling of that monent. Nothing has ever come close. If you can bottle that and sell it you would be the richest man in the world

What a fucking moment man

How can you say that with authority? So much uncertainty around exactly when O'hare released the ball, how accurately the line was drawn, the frame rate especially with Wright and the dfender running in opposite directions. A millisecond either way and the picture looks so different. Enough uncertainty to give in favour of the attacking team, and that's a hill I'm prepared to die on.

Tbf in real time I didn't realise AWB position and thought haji was a mile off. So whilst I went wild I was expecting a delayed flag. How close it was I agree with what you are saying.

Thinking about it, the QF loss to Sheff Utd was terrible.

Although one game that really stands out for me.... losing 4-1 away to Shrewsbury on a grim weeknight in (i think) our first season down in League 1....... a real moment of realisation of where we were.

I'm afraid VAR has taken massively away from the game for match-going fans....... even if Torp's goal had been allowed, the moment had gone and it had been tarnished...... imagine if Huckerby's winner in 97 had gone to VAR due to that potential obstruction by Whelan...... completely ruins the moment even if the goal is allowed.

I'm sure, but sadly not at the moment O'Hare makes first contact with his pass, nor indeed as it leaves his boot. Just for that split second (the only moment that counts) Haji's stuck-out foot was offside. I wish the timing had been different, because he was definitely onside just before and just after.

I'll leave it there because the pics from the opposite side of the pitch I've previously posted are very clear, but people don't want to know. And some have convinced themselves that multiple people in the VAR room colluded to corrupt the result .

I don't think there was any collusion, just incompetence.

The league Cup semi final 2nd leg 0-0 draw at home v Forest, when a 1-0 win would have seen us go back to Wembley. I was gutted.
I also still cant forget the 2-6 at home to Yeovil in 2017.

In terms of footballing moments one that has stayed with me and always made me appreciate when things got better for us was watching rochdale fans laugh at how bad we were and i knew we were going to league 2 .. they were cheering when we had a shot etc , several hundred coventry fans , i sat in total disbelief at what was happening to us

I know robins was manager that day , but he wasnt the cause , and i think thats why i loved the bloke so much as manager because he gave us it all back .

Sad but true

I always bring it up , its always stuck with me , for me our lowest moment

Roland Nilsson treading on the ball in his own box in the final minute of injury time sending the ball out for a corner. The corner comes in, is cleared and David Holdsworth swings a hopeful leg to connect from 20 yards and send the game to extra time and ultimately penalties…

I swear it was the only mistake he ever made while playing for us.

I was talking to a premier league Ref at my daughter's football match last weekend - I won't say who it was but I was discussing VAR and the Torp offside goal with him.

Basically, he was explaining that with VAR there is a tolerance in place which is 1mm over a 5mm threshold or something.

Pretty sure we've had this conversation before on here but VAR as intended would be fine. It was sold to us on the basis of overturning clear and obvious errors. The kind of thing everyone in the ground can see but the officials somehow miss, things that would take seconds to correct.

Somehow they changed that to spending 5-10 minutes going over something to then still get it wrong or draw conclusions on decisions so tight just aren't mathematically possibly for VAR to resolve.

That's not how its used in other sports and that's why it works in other sports and has been a fucking nightmare in football.

But we now seem to be at a point where they refuse to even acknowledge the problem, much less do anything to solve it.

The Torp rollercoaster will stay with me for ever.

I’m still totally gutted about losing our midfield at the start of the ‘93-94 season. Lee Hurst, a really promising prospect, wrecked his knee pre-season and never played again. Stewart Robson - brilliant but injury prone - gets his studs stuck in the turf first game of the season and also wrecks his knee. He tried various comebacks over the next two years but kept breaking down. Very sad end to a fine career and I always wonder what we might have been for a few years if those 2 had played on.

It’s unhinged behaviour to leave a playoff final during a penalty shootout, surely this is a false memory or something?

Honourable mention to Worcester City at home - A team of part timers coming to a 3/4 empty CBS and turning us over (and deservedly so as well) and an away end full of Villa fans from Worcester who had come to laugh at how far we had fallen singing "Your not famous anymore" to us.... That, and a 4-0 defeat away to Cambridge in the FA Cup in the League 1 relegation season are genuinely the only two times I have come out of a football stadium genuinely wishing that I supported another club

At least with the FA Cup/Play Off heartbreaks we had some mitigating circumstances and we could look back at some pride with what we had achieved after the initial heartbreak had sunk in, those two moments stick out to me where the club was completely on it's arse and we felt like we had no hope and it was only going to get worse

recent - The FA forcing a Manc derby FA cup final because it would get better TV numbers than little old Coventry...

not so recent - Sheff Utd penalty loss in FA cup in '98 (just stuck with me that one, still dont like them!)

Went to the game hoping we wouldn't disgrace ourselves, then at 0-3 just hoped it'd stop there. As we got it back to 2-3 though, you could see their players on the ropes and that bald idiot of a Dutchman on the bench started shitting the bed.

The Torp goal was the best moment of my CCFC life though, and I maintain that Casemiro was trying to get his manager sacked with his penalty effort. Harry Maguire went up in my estimation at the end, he knew his team got lucky as fuck. Same can't be said for some of his ratty teammates and especially his manager.
Did a 360 on Harry McGuire after that game. He shook all our player's hands immediately once Utd won the shootout, and spoke very well at the end praising us and saying they were fortunate, with the empty UTD stand behind him, and 40,000 Cov fans singing on the other side almost drowning him out. Good man. If we went up, go and get him.

Exactly this, typical football authorities, can't implement their own f*cking rules. Add to the list along with treatment off the pitch, only stopping for head injuries, time the keeper can hold the ball, only captains can talk to the referee etc. Useless.

God, I'd somehow forgotten about the Ballard goal. God save all of the Sky Blue Army who made the long, miserable trip to the SOL, had to witness that and the ensuing celebrations helplessly in-person then endured a hellish journey out of the ground and back to their transport.

We were at a sports bar in Paphos who had agreed in advance to show the match then stayed open despite us being the only two customers. I had my head face-down on the table in despair and my wife had to go and pay our tab; even the bar manager seemed to be gutted!

Like Simms’ 1st vs wolves. It felt about 10 mins they were arsing about, only to then say it should stand because of the decision on the pitch.

I welcomed VAR but its application is shite.

Love these post-match comments:

Coventry manager Chris Coleman:
"Let's get it right. There shouldn't have been enough time for us to get the equaliser.

"The referee's assistant put four minutes up. We scored in the sixth added minute, so where have the extra two come from?

"We then ended up playing over seven minutes. There's no consistency.

"Just because he's made a mistake in letting us get an equaliser he didn't need to make another one to even it up.

"Two wrongs don't make a right."
