I think if you put on the biggest Mark Robins' hat, he could have turned it around like he always did, and got us to finish 5th.

I don't think he would have got the consistency against mediocre teams to get the 9 wins out of 10 that Lampard got. But he also wouldn't have had the poor 5/6 games Lampard did at the start, and he might have pulled off a couple of big results against better teams that Lampard didn't get.

Who knows!

But we know Robins has precedent for turning things round exactly the same as we have this season, and there's theories he may have not been given the chance to reshuffle the coaching setup after it clearly went wrong over the summer... But we'll probably never know the full story behind that.

I think the biggest material difference between the two is Lampard is more consistent at beating the dross to get those 10 wins in 12, Robins biggest weakness was beating shite teams. Robins biggest strength was getting us to punch up against better teams and get results (Wolves away, Leicester, Leeds, Middlesbrough away, United at Wembley, even Spurs at home we played amazing). Lampard hasn't (yet) beaten a considerably better team than us... We haven't had a big enough sample size yet, but I would feel more confident coming up against Sheffield United at Wembley and getting a big result under Robins than Lampard, but Lampard has maybe produced the consistency to get us there....

Lampard is better at getting the results against the dross???? Really????

Hull, Derby, Plymouth, Luton???
Is that the dross your on about???

Hey, this isn't a comparison or a competition between 2 great managers.
Can we just enjoy getting a 5th place play off place? And be thankful for that.

Even at this point some are trying to put up down after doing the unexpected this season. It’s just embarrassing; we’re very lucky to have him.

Exactly. So far he’s got results when it’s really mattered. Even if we don’t go up there’s loads to be excited about for next season with him and the new coaching staff.

100% agree.
We've been incredibly lucky to of had MR and FL.
We have record ST sales, a full stadium,
Great atmospheres, Wembley appearances, an owner to be proud of, a team that plays with passion and pride, and now a playoff place that looked way beyond us when Frank took over.

What a time to be a Sky Blue fan 🩵

Living the dream!

For whatever reason MR always seems to start slow. He’s started slow at Stoke again and barely staved off relegation. Granted Stoke have an inferior deck and the goal was probably just to survive this season.

However, in our case losing Adi and bringing in the new coaching set up was a failed experiment and one which MR had a hand in. Now we’ve just been proven that DK was right saying we have a Top 6 deck and that in hindsight sacking MR at the time was the right decision albeit unfortunate for MR who we owe a lot for bringing us up from the depths of League 2. Glad it all worked out in the end.

Robins on his own was limited and he was never going to get the best out of the players. I also think he was very picky on age of the targets which would of made the recruiting dept have less scope. I rate Robins, but i knew his time had come with the club.

So would of we better off,,,,, NO. Lampard is a better coach and from what he has done either knows or has people around him that know how and what a squad needs to maximize its potential.

Equally, there are constant digs on here about Robins but they don't get jumped on anywhere near as much. I wonder why that is?
.I genuinely can't get my head around it because he did more than anyone to save this club.

There have also been ongoing digs at Lampard since he took over. Both did/are doing an excellent job.

But the digs at Lampard get jumped on, look at the response to Paxman yet just a few post above this one is someone slating Robins equally as much, not a word said. Maybe it's just because he's gone, I don't know.

Some people don't deserve the success he brought

Mate look

Robins gave us the greatest times , we went to all the games and lived it home and away it was an amazing period and hes one of the greatest this club has ever had .

I also find the slander strange , I also hate when people slate the man and im also baffled as to why fans would argue against a man that did so much for us ..

But Mate im bored of the arguing about it , we have weird fans and thats that

As amazing as Robins had been for us really transforming the club with all his achievements, I personally don't think Robins would have achieved play offs from that position. 1) the coaching staff were no where near as good tactically without Adi Vivash, 2) we were still really unfit despite playing nearly half a season, 3) his stubbornness around freezing some players out to the team (e.g Kitching), and 4) his constant tinkering of the front 3 trying to keep everyone happy.

I was a Lampard skeptic, he has done an amazing job despite us not playing that well for most of tenure, we have picked up points where it matters. There is huge room for improvement and that's a good thing, it means the team will grow. My worry was always that he will get a good offer in the summer and go.

Tbh it's just a bit of internet jabbing. If you can't take when it comes back around then don't give it I suppose, all fun from my end and more a bit of delayed banter at posters who were giving me some a few months ago than at Robins.
Posters who dared to question why a manager who seemingly had been given everything he wanted, had a good pre season with his squad, spent good money again, had us looking like shite were jumped on.
It was the owner, it was the players, it was fucking Dr Claire!!!
All I said was I thought a new manager could get better from the squad, a lot seemed to disagree and thought the squad was a huge waste of money. As I said at the time, it's better I was correct as if we'd genuinely pissed all that money on shite it would have been a disaster. Luckily I was, Lampard has done a brilliant job.

That some people hate on lampard and don't give him the credit he deserves.

I love mark robins and will jump on people that disrespect him but it seems anyone who says anything about lampard doing a better job this season are labelled as robin haters and I find that weird.

Hate on. Disrespect. Don't give credit. Call it what you want

Got lucky with Injuries that forced 352
High line is so bad it's killing us
433 stubborn and should be changed
So lucky to have win streak we did
Throwing away playoffs
Should have put dovin in for Collins earlier. Should have put Wilson in for Collins earlier
Robins would have got us 5th too as if what lampard did was bare minimum

Let's go through your points

Got lucky with Injuries that forced 352
-Not seen this , but people said the same about robins in the league 1 title season , nobody cried mate

High line is so bad it's killing us

- we conceded a fair few goals because of the high line ,be pragmatic especially if our fastest CB and RB are out,our sending off against Luton was directly caused by it

433 stubborn and should be changed

- i Have no issue with 433 , but we have to find a way to win more games away

So lucky to have win streak we did

We werent particularly great during the run but thats football , again , sheffield wednesday should have beat us the fact they didnt would class as luck

Throwing away playoffs

-We almost did , before boro we took 10 points from the previous 9 games

Should have put dovin in for Collins earlier.

-Not really aware of this chat tbh

Should have put Wilson in for Collins earlier

- if he could have he should have , lampard only made fans aware of wilson fitness over the last few days

Robins would have got us 5th too as if what lampard did was bare minimum

- Probably wouldnt have but im not mystic meg , lampard did a good job

Are you satisfied?

Most of them you say you don't agree with so you don't need to worry about being part of agenda.

Also why bring robins into it? This is why this stuff continues. People get triggered that anyone who rates lampard must not have rated robins.

It's not true. Any normal fan should love robins and currently love lampard.

Robins received all this criticism about 'lucky' injuries, not having a plan b or able to change games, making poor subs too late (i.e. changing the left back after 85 mins). Yet pretty much everyone thought he was great for this club and loved him to bits. Same with players who we'll criticise for a poor pass or shot then be soinging their name.

We can think Frank is doing a good job and love him being in charge, but we can also point out areas of improvement too. It's not nasty, or an agenda, it's just natural.

I was gutted when Robins left. There I’ve said it. I do think he would have turned it around. However I know a couple of people with connections within the club and a couple of weeks earlier to his sacking I had been told stories very similar to Doug’s explanation on BBC radio of why he pulled the trigger. Maybe sadly it was just time ?

I’m surprised by how much I’m liking Lampard. Clearly an intelligent guy that is interesting to listen to and has a deep thought process about football. It’s also obvious how much the team like him and equally how he has embraced the CCFC culture including our fan base.

At the minute for me it’s still Robins team. A team Lampard inherited that had the right ingredients but one that was massively misfiring. All credit to Lampard and his team for coming in and getting it working. How good Lampard is will be seen over the next season or so with the additions to the squad he wants and putting his longer term mark on it.

That been said let’s get behind what’s happening as it’s still and incredibly exciting time. Super Super Frank………..
