The answers in my view are simple. They were incompetent, controlling and never wanted the club to have it.

I've come late into this, although I have skim-read many of the posts, most of which have been repeated ad-infinitum here and in other threads over the last couple of years at least. The problem I have with this statement above is, if the council were so incompetent and never wanted the club to have the stadium how did they manage to achieve their objectives? They have managed to sell the stadium lease to another business, raised £4m and saw the loan repaid in the process and successfully defended themselves (so far) in the courts against, apparently, one of the most aggressive hedge funds in the business. They, the Council, have ended up with a highly successful sports club in the city and no debt. Heaven help the the citizens of the city if they had been even half-competent!
