Heard some interesting news about cov city yesterday from a very good and reliable source.

Wasps don't want city at ricoh so there gonna put up the rent and if city refuse to pay wasps will boot them out.

City still have option of renting sixfields as Northampton struggling financially.

Cov and Northampton could become the 1st ever franchise club with names like Northampton sky blue being branded about.

SISU don't want us in Northampton. They want a self sufficient club that can get promoted and raise the cashflow. Going to Northampton would do the opposite.

Wasps need every penny they can get. They have nearly 50m to pay back in 7 years. This won't be coming from their chairman. A lot of the money raised went into his pocket that he had loaned the club previous;y. And kicking us out would be a massive setback to his plans of seeing Wasps try to get the local population see them as a local side.

I prefer common sense over 'a very good and reliable source'

I don't necessarily believe the rumour, but isn't it wasps who have the option - if so they have the advantage. And even if ccfc have the option, is the rent for that option specified. If not, a huge rent rise could make staying impossible whilst making a departure appear to be ccfc choice.

I've been told the opposite. Wasps actually want us there as it means the Stadium is in use on Saturdays as they are happy with playing on Sundays. Think about it, all local Rugby players play on a Saturday. This would have a detrimental effect on their crowds if they were to switch their playing day. The rumour I have heard even states that Wasps have told their players that they plan to play on Sundays therefore if they have an issue with that they will need to find a new club.

Some of the OP makes sense, they will put the rent up but I don't believe they will try to kick us out, despite whah a few on bear think they do need us there to milk money from us.

The other rumour doesn't make that much sense, if they wanted just to play Sunday's why haven't they done it this season despite giving "assurances they wouldn't clash with CRFC because they play Sunday". (6-7 home games on a Saturday this season IIRC), also any benefit from local rugby players will be negated by those put off because local transports so crap. There's more than enough Saturday's when we're away for wasps to still play on a Saturday.

Given that there's a big Saturday league football scene would we expect big jump in gates if we switched to a Sunday?

The idea of owning a stadium now is to have revenue streams on as many days of the year as possible... Hence the casino, hotel, conferencing etc. a modern stadium is a venue that a sports club wants to drive revenue from 365 days per year. Wasps would love us to be packing the place out with 32,000 on a weekly basis, for their cut of the money earnt by the food and beverage franchise, or if they have sold this already then the value of the sale of the franchises moving forwards would increase.

It is of course, entirely possible that a Wasps business model would want to rent to a football club too.

It's equally conceivable that the football club is an inconvenience in the quest to forge an identity and embed long term within the physical space.

Ignore that possibility at your peril.

To be fair if they read this forum they'd be tempted to give it a go. They have nothing to lose and they'd soon have their PR agency blaming us for it and managing to put an end to our first good season in decades.

Whatever happens happens ,personally i still believe that even after whatever has been said , The owner of wasps will want to own Coventry city aswel once sisu are gone ,the whole financial package would be more appealing than the single one ..and wasps owners will know that rugby can never make the money that football can ,if ran correctly to get to the promised land .
Just a case of waiting out

I asked the very same and it was to keep the players (Wasps) happy. They wish to play on a Saturday, hence they have now been advised if they dont like playing on a Sunday then they will need to find a new club.

First of all I don't believe the rumour at all. It doesn't even make sense even if made up.

I think the situation changes if we got promoted. So if we were in the championship and fuck it even challenging for top 6 what would of crowds be? 20-25k as a top 10 championship side?

What happens then as wasps bring in 5k fans on the Sunday for their games and most are free tickets? So we bring in 20k plus and then bring in 5k plus is a really interesting scenario and without us again we are in a Northampton situation where by ccfc will think wasps need them and wasps will think ccfc need them..

Obviously we haven't got promoted to the championship but that's probably why the rent and situation works at the moment because league 1 we don't command enough say but top 10 championship club we might just then.

Perhaps a reason for just the 4 year rent deal signed last year?

Ive heard a completely different rumour that at a recent corporate event everybody's favorite SW let it slip that SISU are in secretive talks with Wasps to extend the Ricoh agreement for a further 10 years..... just saying what I heard nothing more.

Similar to the way football TV scheduling works, Rugby Premiership games are changed in blocks of 6 weeks. So BT Sport will release TV games for the first 6 weeks of the season. Then half way through, they'll release the next 6 weeks of TV fixtures. Sky and BT Sport have 8 dates throughout the year when they release their dates of TV games. For example, the next release date from them is Oct 19th when they'll release January TV fixtures (well, from the 12th onwards).

Aviva Premiership Rugby is very similar...all games when the fixtures are released are for Saturday 3pm KOs then once BT Sport release their schedules for their 6 week blocks, they move one game to a Friday night and either one or two to a Sunday. If Wasps are doing well, there's a 40/60% chance they won't be playing on a Saturday anyway.
