SISU understand the processes!

Your hardly comparing like with like though are you.
The Arena has multiple different income streams, compared to the football club.

If you cast your mind back, it was public knowledge that we were on the brink of going under for months. Sisu didn't come in until the last minute, so to suggest that they prevented some multi billion pound invester from coming in and making us the Barcelona of the Premier league it's just rediculous.

Everyone has different views.

It could be argued that when we had the “twenty mins from admin” situation had SISU not been around another buyer may have come in, or, we entered admin (as we did later anyway) and someone else take over whilst we had less debt and 10 points knocked. Maybe the alternative buyer from admin had the good sense to do a deal with CCC wrt the CBS. GR liked the SISU option since it gave him a chance of his £20m without him having to dig deeper himself (didn’t work out though)

Saviours?

It’s a view.

Much of that argument relies on "but what if." The fact is, if we can't name any legitimate alternative buyer, then we have to conclude that there wernt any. Just sumising that someone else more suitable would come crawling out of the woodwork to save us like some kind of fairy godmother or genie of the lamp is pure fantasy.

Other parties had shown an interest, but disappeared once they looked at our books, with one even describing us as a "basket case"

I think Robinson was back in for the club aswell. He was pushed aside ironically by the council who were only entertaining the idea of SISU.

in actual fact their track records of handpicking preferred bidders isn’t looking to hot

It does seem that certain individuals in the council have a history of getting too big for their boots. They seem to want to play big secret business players when they are actually just civil servants. If it goes wrong then it’s never their money - it’s taxpayers - council fools can walk away.

I can’t recall at the time but yes, there’s no doubt CCFC was a basket case heading for admin.

SISU “saved us from admin”.

The reality is that the “saving” was just delaying.

Well alternatively, we could win our 2 games in hand and be pushing for a play off place. Win promotion at Wembley, and everything in the garden is rosy again.

If that doesn't happen and MA takes over, then at least they kept us alive for the 15 years that they owned us.

Another angle:

Did a rather annoyed (at SISU for in his eyes fleecing him for £20m) Labour MP Geoffrey Robinson have any influence over Labour elected councillors?

Perhaps why they didn’t give SISU a helping hand with the Arena.

Geoff was MP up until 2019. Labour councillors with bigger political ambitions would have wanted him onside.

Maybe I’m being ridiculous.

Worth noting, btw, that SISU managed to buy CCFC despite hostility from CCC, where the then leader described their bid as 'derisory'. None of this infuence and things and twirling moustaches to devastating effect then...

I've quoted it five million times before! I'm not spending my time re-finding the link every time somebody wants it.

But to prove I do actually do this whole evidence thing.

City council leader Ken Taylor revealed that two other "derisory" bids had been received from two other firms. One, called Sisu, had offered £15million. The other was from a firm called Shapiro, which offered £26million but wanted the club to pay off its debts and the city council to give it a longer lease on the Ricoh Arena and some spare land to the north of the site.

Interesting that you took Ken Taylors use of the word "derisory" as being fact.
The 2 offers mentioned are pretty much the same if you take the debt and value of the land into account.

The value of any asset is what someone is prepared to pay, if the bids received are similar, it suggests that its probably due to it being a realistic valuation.

Ken was in the business of trying to negotiate to increase the bids. That's business, he wasn't going to say we've got 2 fantastic offers was he.

It’s this article, right?

Sky Blues face bleak future

THE future looks bleak for Coventry City Football Club.
www.coventrytelegraph.net

Not arguing - KT called the offer derisory and GR would not have had a penny back.

It is interesting that not long after, it appears GR agreed to a deal that seemingly secured his millions which the council seemed to then support. It ties in my mind with Labour elected politicians looking out for each other.

Who this Coventry schoolboy “Gary Hopkins” is is a mystery

(satire - it’s Hoffman)

In the end it appears that the £15 million turned down as derisory ended up being £7m to clear the back and poor GR’s money later being lost in admin. (I know it’s not as straightforward but in any case)

Maybe the deal that at the time shafted GR but secured CCFC in the arena in a longer lease was better for CCFC than SISU.

Who knows…

Yep, I was editing at the time. You are correct.

My simple observation is who Ken Taylor was and his relationship with GR.

Other than posters trying to deduce if CCC have been anti- SISU in the past and why that might be beyond the obvious.

Also, with GR not so influential whether there is a change in sentiment - it may be relevant short order.

Yes. Back the the council was Tory for a while and SISU had some chance. When it switched to Labour and GR had lost his money is when the whole anti-SISU thing started.

Robinson asked the council for the rental arrangements to be changed when the club was clearly not affording payments — it was refused

I used to think you had a modicum of sense and you continue to disappoint

RICOH DEAL: MP Geoffrey Robinson could lose £250k in stadium rent row

COVENTRY MP and former Sky Blues chairman Geoffrey Robinson could stand to lose £250,000 if the club does not pay its Ricoh stadium rent debts.
www.coventrytelegraph.net

Of course he would ask for a change of rental agreements.
