@mr_monkey laugh , then explain why he should start ahead of godden and waghorn ? And why does Robins drop him ?

If you want I can show you the stats that show he doesn't recover the ball aswell as godden , doesn't win as many duels as godden .. show me the evidence you have to say I'm wrong...go

Sorry if I hurt your feelings with an emoji, I'll think about my conduct better in the future

But running around like that isn't his game, he is a poacher and is suited to different games depending on the opposition.... our fans are obsessed with people who run around loads but are bang average players (see max, morrell etc)

Personally I think robins shouldn't have dropped him as he scored two in two whilst godden was suspended but that was robins choice for whatever reason he did

You didn't hurt my feelings , but to laugh off a valid criticism of a players game , when it's something that is arguably keeping him from cementing a first choice spot , seems a bit stupid

Because he was in form. Same reason Rose should’ve started ahead of Hyam TBH. Scores two in two and then dropped. When Hamer got himself suspended he had to sit out yet Godden comes straight back in for our in form striker. Just bad man management TBH.

It's terrific management, straight from the book of the best managers too .

Doing what they think is right for the team for that particular game .. no mercy.

Guardiola been doing it for years

You don't work how he wants you to work, you don't play

It's not valid as it's not his style of play (same as it wouldnt be valid to criticize mcfadz for not dribbling around more players as that's not his style of play)

If he doesn’t work how he wants him to work why does he keep praising him and playing him ahead of Waghorn?

It's a valid criticism, if that's his game and he's not prepared to adapt to what's required , then he will be on his way in the summer and rightly so.

Atm he's 3rd 4th choice , yet some on here think he's Pele.. who is wrong ?

So if he could guarantee a goal a game that wouldn’t be enough because he doesn’t run around all game?

Unfortunately football isn't that simple , and unfortunately for your argument Walker would never score 46 league goals .

So it's irrelevant

If Walker could bang 46 league goals then no , id never drop him

My " our best team " thread I state waghorn and vik , I think godden and Walker would both score more over a season than waghorn , so what's that say ?

Best for the team overall

No one thinks he is Pele, just that slating him for not running around enough is a not valid criticism that is all (the guy behind me on Saturday genuinely started slagging him off for not running on quickly enough when he got subbed on)

All this for a couple of strikers who probably need to be moved on if we’re looking to progress at the end of the season, let’s be honest.

It's not running round is it ? Let's start using the football brain eh .

It's pressing , getting onto second balls , being first to the ball , dragging players away , running back to recover possession.

Running around is a nonsense explanation for the point being made

OK mate no , I wouldn't drop Walker if he could score a goal every single game without fail , tighten up the back and midfield and the odds are in our favour

Hyam is comfortable in possession when he has his RWB in position and the defensive midfielders in position.

When Dabo pushes high to cross from the byline (rather than whip in early) it’s a long way back. If during that time the opposition has made a break and Hyam has the ball then he’s got one less outlet, it’s then that he is forced to play out of his comfort zone.

Solution: say to Dabo to cross early and get ready to chase back if required.

Similarly, if Sheaf / Kelly / Hamer either go too far forward and don’t chase back then it’s another outlet for the defence to pass through closed off.

I’m on no mood to debate with stat-gimps today. My observation is that Kelly sits too deep which disjoints the flow from mid to att but helps with the flow from defence to mid. Hamer is random. Sheaf doesn’t chase back quick enough and the result is that some passes are hit harder to him (to bypass the high press of the opponents) and he then has less chance of controlling and sometimes loses possession.

Solution: Sheaf to get back quicker to provide an shorter outlet to the defenders. He’s got a decent passing range. Use that from deeper.
Yeah thats it, Hyam can't pass a simple ball because Dabo is playing his position and that's somehow Sheaf's fault. Deluded.

Most top teams don't regularly use a different variation of 4 strikers either, or have 4 top strikers

Besides the obvious 3 or 4 teams ,which ones have better 3rd and 4th choice than us

I think in a situation where you didn´t already have 3 good strikers, Walker would be a lot more valuable. As it is, we have other strikers that can finish, whilst also doing other bits of the game that work for the team more favourably.

Ok, so he scored two in two games, which is fantastic. Good goals too. That being said, we played pretty poorly for a lot of those two games and ended up with one draw and one defeat. The results weren´t there. Did the way we play with Walker in the team have anything to do with that? Perhaps. I genuinely think we play a lot better when the other strikers are in the team. Waghorn for me is a funny one. He works hard but doesn´t seem to offer a lot else. For some reason though, Gyokeres plays the best when he is in the team. Godden´s assist at Fulham (Walker wouldn´t have done that) was sublime and for me he offers the best of everything. Good finishing, good work rate, and good assist play. He is the player I would probably like to see with Gyokeres, who surely is our undisputed number 1 striker by now.

I still think we should look at this as a positive though. There are significantly worse problems we could have!

we played well enough in the first half against Preston and dominated blackburn in the second half and should have won

against Derby we were poor in the second half

I like Walker, there isn't actually a player I dislike , i just have an opinion about certain aspects of his game that some people don't agree with..

That's fine .. it's not like biamou where I genuinely just thought he was quite poor , its nothing like that

Our crossing is woeful & was woeful last season too, I remember making a post on it back in March.
It's a major flaw in Dabo's game particularly

Next season squad if we stay up...

I can see McFadzean getting a contract extension he is an out and out centre half and good at it unless MR has one lined up going to be a few CBs available.

I knew it was poor, but surprised at just how poor compared to the rest of the League, 2nd worst % accuracy is quite something considering our League position.
Definitely is something Dabo needs to improve too, whether he delays too long or wants one more touch or stepover the end result is rarely great.

I’m with Evo on this. I like Walker as a player and he can feel a bit unfortunate to be dropped for Godden after scoring two on the bounce, however Goddens last game against Fulham, one of the best teams in the league, he was one of the best players on the pitch and involved in three goals from memory. He’s got a better all round game than Walker at the moment and Robins clearly wants a bit more than a poacher in the current system/team

The question on Saturday probably should’ve been whether Vik was fully fit/should’ve started rather than the Godden v Walker choice

I’d also imagine Robins didn’t expect Vik to be nailed on as first striker on the team sheet, so the others have just got to be patient but all will get a fair few games I’d imagine.

I think part of it is what’s in the box as well, our strikers are pretty poor at getting across their man. TBH I’d play like I do at FIFA where I also can’t cross for shit and cut into the box and pass it in.

More generally it would be nice to see more attempts on goal from the likes of Hamer and Maatsen, even if occasionally it goes miles off target. Hamer especially has passed up some glorious chances for the shot when we all know he's got it in his locker.

It is

Great finisher but does little else and we as a team don't make many chances without hard working strikers who press or hold ball up
