Offered IT support to another but they want somebody to have an SLA to replying to tickets or whatsapp messages all week.

In all seriousness at some point does it not cross the line from volunteering to basically replacing what should be paid roles with people working for free?

Yeah, A lot of them are basically part time jobs that are unpaid.

This has been my very early experience of the soup kitchen too - They expect an awful lot from the volunteers and are barely keeping up with the demand as it is. Even the managers, for whom this is essentially a second job, don't get paid.

It is pretty offputting.

I just expected to be able my skills / knowledge for a few hours a week to a good cause. I didn't expect to be given targets and SLAs and people say they want more for free.

It's just like applying for actual jobs. Might just get a new hobby instead.

Semi related. Been thinking about starting to take a bin bag and litter picker with me on my walks, round by me can be a right tip. Feels like something with a big impact for little effort that doesn’t require anyone else and I can do or not as I choose. Only downside is being known as the weird bin guy.

Always thank the guys in cheylesmore that do this every Sunday morning. They are heroes in my eyes giving their time for the community

That's a good thing but then I'd get even more rage when I see disrespectful pricks making a mess.

Saw two dog walkers around where I live just letting their dogs shit on the pavement, shrug then walk away. Still felt like wiping their dogs' arses though instead of picking it up.
