Somebody has to be willing to pay a decent fee for him though.
If Sporting decide they have really big bollocks and hold out for over 65/70 mil (which I don't think anyone will pay) he'll still be there when the window closes.
He'll be very stubborn and would harm his career if he then decided not to play!

It's not an easy decision and given his record, and really the lack of available strikers currently out there which aren't being touted for £100m+, they'll want to maximise the fee within the realms of what they deem as realistic.

However, lets be honest we live in an age where more often than not the player will get what he wants. While it could of course harm his career, it could equally harm Sporting's chances of receiving a bumper fee and they'll want to ensure they make a healthy profit.

What is clear is Gyokeres is not a must have number one target. They have been linked with him so long yet still exploring other options.

Other Premier League Clubs have toyed with the idea rather than swooped. There is obviously question marks around something?

But that's part of the game also, keep his price down, maybe that offer from juve is actually where he should be.

Might be worth a cheeky €10 on any Italian club then!!

Not sure specifically Juventus at exactly the same odds presents the same sort of value though!

The only two realistically that would be able to afford him are Juventus and possibly Napoli.

Juventus have Vlahović and want to bring back Kolo Muani. Albeit the former has been linked with a move away this summer.

Napoli need to move on Osimhen, but will still have Lukaku - although he's aging and half-rumoured to be linked with a move away to Saudi.

A lot can happen between now and deadline day but it's clear it's not a simple situation and there's so many moving parts at play.

Also my bet tbf. Sort of league he could bully his way to 40 goals a season and him, us, and most importantly his agent receive a fat wedge. Win win win.

Interesting insight into what is happening in the Vik saga on this website/podcast:

Gyokeres threatens to STRIKE to force Arsenal move

www.footballtransfers.com

Arsenal bid 55+10 in bonus, Sporting rejected it. Vik and his agent were very upset as Sporting had agreed last year he could go if a bid of that much came in. Sporting's president has said that was negotiated by the old DOF Hugo Viana, who move to Man City, so is no longer a valid 'gentleman's agreement'. Vik has threatened he won't returning to Sporting training until the close of the transfer window. Sporting now asking for 80.

If this transfer was to come to fruition, does anyone think Liverpool might look at Vik as a potential replacement ?

I was wondering the same thing but after Liverpool spent £85 million on Nunez from Portugal and he hasn't really set the worl on fire I wonder if they are feeling a bit burnt and won't go after a prolific striker from that league again.

I know he's not a striker but BF at Manure cost around 65 million and he turned out ok. He came from the same league.

Possible I suppose, but I think they would be more likely to evaluate each player on their own individual merits, irrespective of where he’s playing his football.

Yeah you could be right, the Liverpool Echo are saying 45m/50m though obviously they won’t know for sure.

Liverpool enter the chat:

https://www.cmjornal.pt/desporto/futebol/detalhe/liverpool-entra-na-corrida-por-gyokeres

"
Viktor Gyokeres is one of Liverpool's targets to strengthen their attack. The Swede is on a short list to replace former Benfica player Darwin Nuñez, who will join Italian side Napoli.

After Arsenal and Manchester United, another English giant is in the running to sign the Sporting forward. Liverpool have been following the player for some time, according to the British press, but only in the last few days have they given instructions to their representatives to confirm with the Lions the price for a possible signing. The SAD remains intransigent and will only accept the sale for 80 million euros. This is a far cry from what the 'Reds' are willing to spend after having paid 135 million for the German midfielder Wirtz (Liverpool's record). The sale of Darwin, but not only that, could allow for an interesting offer for Gyokeres. Barcelona are very interested in Luiz Diaz and if the deal goes through, Liverpool will have the money and the need to strengthen their attack.

Gyokeres is seen at Liverpool as someone who can make a difference and who can help the team renew their title as champions, but also try to win the Champions League, something that has not happened since 2018/2019.

The 27-year-old Swede has already made it known that he wants to leave Sporting and that his goal is to play in the Premier League. Arsenal have so far been the only club to make an offer (55 million, plus 10 for objectives) and could return to the fray in the coming days. "

Sporting will not want to keep a player who doesn't want to play for them, they're just holding out to see what they can get for him and then they will sell at the last minute.

They have been favourites with the bookies all summer strangely considering I've not really seen any credible link with them and Viktor.

But Sporting also need to look at whether he's likely to attain a higher fee either 6 or 12 months later. It's unlikely given his age.
