A midfield 3 of Grimes, Torp, and Rudoni is clearly the way to go, although this method of evaluating players is pretty nonsense really.
Sheaf has somehow jumped further across the graph since last time, despite not playing. Rudoni making apparently only 0.1 chances (what a silly variable) per game more than him, yet having about 8 more assists. Torp has a much higher level of vision, and ability to pull off a smart forward move, yet has a pretty low goal assist contribution.
Data like this can be useful, but as I wait for a chorus of laughing emojis, is far too one dimensional to use in isolation. What that paper says paints some irregularities compared to what happens in reality on the pitch overall.

I think Torp is a useful player to have around but not a must have in the starting lineup
He has been excellent since Lampard came in overall, and a big part of our turn around, particularly in midfield. Whilst I agree he was not good in that game, I think we can forgive it in isolation!
As I said he is good to have around and as I have always said he has some very good qualities. But for me he is still in the must improve camp, especially around consistency.
I still see him stronger as an attacking mid on the edge of the penalty area. Rather than a box to box mid as he has not got the pace (and you can't really develop that).
Saw a stat on X yesterday that only 4 midfielders s in the championship have a higher successful chance creation and his interception rate is also near the top of the division.
I think a lot of what he does is quite subtle and you tend to remember more the time he's lost a physical battle. I still don't think we get him into shooting positions enough.

I think Franks go to midfield will be a double pivot and a number 10, Sheaf and Grimes behind Rudoni now on paper that should be one of the best in the league. With Torp, Eccles and Allen backing them up
Annoyed me a few times there give the ball to torp on good positions and he just did the easy thing every time
I've been very up and down on Torp but agree with the above about Tuesday, it looked like he thought because Grimes was there he didn't need to do much and was happy passing responsibility.

Well il be honest , hes gone from a player that looked brittle and not really truly at the level , to being a bit of a beast hasn't he ?
When we signed him last season, he’d reported for the first week of preseason in the Norwegian football calendar.
As Sheaf got injured, he was thrust into the first team prematurely and his body couldn’t hack it. Not many players would in a more physical league with no preseason.
He's so much better defensively than he gets credit for as well his pressing yesterday was exceptional.

The Championship is totally different to where most players come from. Faster with less time on the ball and a higher fitness level needed. Most players need time to get used to it. The problem is they need game time to do this. But supporters expect them to hit the ground running or they call them shite.
He is getting better and better, I still think he needs to go up another couple of levels but he has the potential to be a top player in this division.
There isn't a better coach to learn from than Lampard who I think can get the best out of him.

And to repeat myself from other threads, he sat out of most of this season's pre-season too with an injury. Most likely only played in the early games out of necessity because we were short of numbers in midfield.
Has always looked good enough, and now he's caught up on fitness he's a fantastic asset.
He was pretty much playing as a 10 yesterday. His pressing was still very good - every player needs to press to some extent in this formation - but I think he's much less effective when defensive duties are a central part of his role, which wasn't the case yesterday. It's also why I'm not sure how him and Rudoni can play together in a 433.
To have him come in and fill in while Rudoni's out has been absolutely huge for us, his final pass is arguably better than anyone in the squad.
He definitely seems to have come on leaps and bounds since Lampard's arrival.
His all-round game play is so much better.
Many couldn't see how Wright and EMC could play together. Worked out great yesterday.
Torp in this form and Rudoni together would be a delight to watch. Both cover a lot of ground and are a big threat up front as well as a bonus in defence. We're turning into a side good enough to worry anyone. We're reaching a stage where if our players keep on improving we would have a chance of survival in the Prem.
That through ball for Haji's 3rd was sublime, inch perfect and perfect weight, Haji didn't break stride to dink it over Fatterson!!

Same applies to Raphael! I have watched him and he is changing shape and putting on muscle now and hope that he comes to the fore start of next season. Don't think FL will risk him until then. Just keeping him up and around the squad to build his confidence
I think there's a fair bit of wishful thinking to believe that Torp can do everything he did yesterday AND do what Allen did (who was truly everywhere). I also don't think he's defensively as good as Allen. But the vibes are pretty good right now so just throw caution to the wind I guess!
