The man to take us forward past January ? I'm undecided, not sure, uncertain but should I feel like this or would a new appointment as manager excite me more

Personally don't think so, haven't seen us play well under him, and yes while the results are welcome, I have a feeling we may be getting a slight rub of the green. Happy to be proven wrong and will continue to support the bloke, but for me think we need a proper manager.

I don't think we can tell until Jan. At the minute I'm not sure whether Venus is our savour of just benefiting from the new manager bounce/honeymoon period himself.

I like him, seems to be honest and looks like he cares. Take yesterday for example we played awful first half and Reid in particular was poor so Venus rightly hauled him off at half time. That's great management as second half we did come out and played much better and hit the bar after 5 mins. Mowbray wouldn't of done that I don't think.

But yes I actually think we have it right here. Give him til January and see where we are and we can act if needed. Saving on mowbrays wage all the while which must be decent. If we can get to January dare I say top half then we can maybe challenge second half of the season.

I like what he has done so far. The decisions he has made, things he has said and ultimately, the results have picked up. I've said over the last few weeks, performances do not matter as much when you are bottom, you just need to scrape a few wins to get out of it. We have done that. If we can climb up a bit, then we can focus on playing nice, attractive football. Lets see how he does up to January. I would also like to see what players he brings in if any. I agree on the above comment though, he's already doing things Mowbray didn't do but it could still be this managerial honeymoon stage we are in.

I agree that we've sometimes appeared fortunate. I believe that taking points from games when we've played poorly has largely been down to our relatively strong defence and defensive mid-fielders. And in particular the form of our most improved player this season so far - Lee Burge.

He's done well but I think he'll pass the mantle to someone with more experience and get on with his directors job, which I think will keep him very busy over the foreseeable future.

the run so far suggests we can wait till january though.

He needs to be in the job at least twelve months otherwise some might not get the opportunity to celebrate him falling on his sword. Or in some cases push him on it.

I think he's done enough to be given the opportunity, should he want it.

Big gamble isn't it, Venus could be benefiting from a new manager bounce and if he stays on till the end of the season it could all fall apart. If we are getting a new manager in then it should be before Jan as he will have time to assess the squad before working out who he wants to bring in.

I agree. Bring in a new manager in early December. Steve Evans anybody ???

Looks as though Evans is off to mighty Mansfield. Personally, didn't want him here anyway but surely the next permanent manager debate will be back on the cards if we lose tonight! Big 45 coming up City!

Is it still the young Carolyn Still who's CEO there, a former female escort allegedly.

Observing from afar, he's done well in the results department since he's been in the role. Minimal defeats and we've won some as well.

Whilst I wouldn't say he's nailed on for the position permanently, I'd say a sign of a decent manager would be someone who realises their mistakes and acts upon them to get different results. By the sounds of it, there's been a few examples since he's been in charge where he's set up the team a certain way, it's not worked, he's changed it and we've picked up points when we might not have. Like a Lidls version of the Tinkerman I guess.

My only concern with giving him the role is the Andy Thorn scenario. Depends on who else is available. Not f&$king Steve Evans though....

He seems to mak a lot of illogical decisions regarding players and positions. I think we need someone else in.
Who? I honestly don't know enough lower league managers to take a punt on that

Looking at the table today makes very depressing reading.

18 games played, just 4 wins.

Would any of us predicted that pre season?

a darn sight better than it was a few weeks ago

after today, its a miracle we aren't in the bottom 4

Yes, it is, but there was always the danger that it was indeed just a honeymoon period.

The cracks and inadequacies in the squad are there for all to see.

We need at least 3 decent players in, in January.

And someone who knows what the fuck to do. Venus didn't make a sub until half time!! For fuck sake he should have changed it after 20 minutes. Why is things like that obvious to us but not to management. Do you think Mourinho would have waited that long with that abject performance unfolding.

As I posted in the match day thread, our current 'plight' reminds me far too much of the Andy Thirn era; started well, we got a little excited (apart from Grendel) that things might be looking up, the honeymoon was soon over.

I'm hoping the only difference this time round is that we learnt from that period; we cannot make the same mistake and persevere with something that doesn't look like it's going to work.

Not sure if Venus has been a bit lucky when we've got results. And when we've played bad, we've played terrible. Not just 'poor'. And when we play badly, I no longer feel any bit confident that we'll make up for it in the next game.

Think the unhappiness within the stand today was more apparent. Not just because we conceded four. It was there long before the forth goal.

It's simply cannot go on, certainly not beyond the turn of the year.

All those 4 wins were under MV in fewer games than it took TM to get 0 wins. We were bottom when MV came in. We have made progress despite the Charlton dicking and the last three games where we have stalled.

What is Venus's overall stats since he took over (all games)? Think he has done pretty well overall so far so merits being given a chance.
Today just sounded like a car crash that as Cov fans we are more than used to seeing over the years, just have to move on from today.
Cannot possibly play as badly next Tuesday.
