The list of aircraft destroyed is impressive…36% of types have been destroyed.

The operation happened in daylight hours.

Key observations report that the full quota of approximately 126 bombers was routinely rotated/ serviced when not in use. This now means that there are fewer to rotate and those that remain will be working harder/ will require maintenance earlier.

Ukrainian media reported that large swarms of drones attacked Olenya airbase in the Murmansk region, home to Russia’s strategic bomber fleet.

The second base under fire was the Belaya airbase in the Irkutsk Oblast in Sibera - some 2,500 miles from Ukraine.

The two other airbases targeted were Ivanovo and Diaghilevo, with Moscow also claiming that the Amur Oblast had been attacked.

Ukrainian sources claimed to have inflicted damage worth more than £1.5billion on the Russian air force.

They managed to ruin Russia's Black Sea fleet without a navy of their own. Would be amusing if they could do the same to their bomber fleet without any of their own.

War, obviously, is not funny. A country that gets invaded, destroyed, suffers war crimes is entitled to give a bit back. And when the bigger bully loses its navy to a country without a navy, the notion of that is quite amusing.

Pretty sure nuclear weapons carried on bombers was a technology in the era depicted in the film Dr Strangelove. Such weapons will be in submarines or deep land based silos launching supersonic and even hypersonic ICBM's.

By the way most certainly the intellegence and planning for these attacks would have used unattributable NATO resources.

18 months in the planning. Agreed it does feel like NATO / Special operations on the ground.
Also, in the past week much of the talk has been about Germany‘s Taurus missile. Maybe Russia was caught looking in the wrong direction?

Shit happens in wars, every side makes errors some catastrophic others less so. I just want to see a peace agreement, the idea of Ukraine spilling more blood to recover territory is crazy, anyone who wants this war to drag on and on over a point of principle is insane. It's high time to stop this grim slaughter.

Whilst I agree in principle, why should they just cede territory, I mean don’t get me wrong - I’d suggest they recognise the Crimean annexation, that seemed to be accepted world wide in 2014, but just to think - fuck it. We’ll agree to all your demands - Russia will just be coming for more in 10 years time.

Ukraine may want to decide what kind of peace they want. Russia looked far stronger before this war started.

it is a complete waste of life. But who’d want a life without liberty?
There is a popular consensus amongst analysts that Russia will Force Ukraine to fight against Poland and Germany if they succumb to Russia. Do we really need that?

The only problem now is that Russia is likely to escalate.

Yes, it's not for us to decide whether Ukraine should surrender or continue fighting, that's up to them.

And they've made their decision pretty clear, so they should be supported in that.

Have you noticed European military expenditure is being increased. The belief Russia is going to invade Europe story is driven by scare propaganda in my opinion.

I found this article on peace negotiations and the present situation which presents a well constructed argument. Before the usual suspects have a go at me I do know it is from a website which generally right wing and unfortunately pro Zionist at times, I am prepared to take in a wide range of viewpoints.

Perhaps, but Russia needs to understand that it can take and receives blows, it is pretty much accepted in war.

This looks like a pointed strategic attack to greatly downgrade Russian military capabilities in a manner that would not risk Ukraine alienating its allies. I say, this is the reality of war, a war that Russia started.

As for your statement, I doubt there are many people who want the war to continue, if people say otherwise I think they've been listening to Putin too much, or his lacky Trump.

Russia's apparent list of demands for peace talks.

And people wonder why Ukraine keep fighting?

  1. Ukraine withdraws from four partially occupied regions (Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia) and lets Russia have them. "International recognition" follows.
  2. Ukraine pledges never to join any military alliances or coalitions (NATO etc). No foreign boots on the ground or military infrastructure either.
  3. Any current or future efforts to this end are rolled back or banned.
  4. No nuclear weapons for Ukraine.
  5. Caps on Ukraine's military. Far-right units are disbanded.
  6. "Full guarantee of rights for Russian speakers." Russian becomes an official language.
  7. Ban on "glorification and promoting of Nazism and neo-Nazism." Nationalist parties and groups are disbanded.
  8. All western sanctions are lifted. No sanctions can be introduced in future either.
  9. "Resolution of issues" with family reunification and displaced persons.
  10. Both sides agree not to demand reparations.
  11. Ukraine rolls back its restrictions on the Russian Orthodox Church.
  12. Full restoration of diplomatic and economic relations, "including gas transit," as well as transport and "other ties, including with third countries."
