Unable to be there....what's the honest assessment? (1 Viewer)

Missed a pen at the death...oh how frustrating. Without slagging them off what was your fair assessment of those who went up today?

In particular Conor Thomas and that central defence again as I was surprised to see Cameron not in today.
Should Deagan have come on? How was Cody McDonald?

McDonald's still off the pace a little, not as involved as he was at times at Ipswich. Jutkiewicz had a good game bar an obvious downer. Overall we can't really sniff at the point, even if it's gutting to miss out on three points.

We started off well with the early goal which was a great goal from Mcsheffrey after a good pass from Bell. 10 mins in we concede with sloppy defending, for the rest of the half it was pretty even with neither side having many clear sights of goal. Reading could consider them self unlucky not to be winning as they missed a penalty.
Then in the second half we dominated them up to 75 mins, we had numerous shots and oppurtunites and there keeper pulled off 4 or 5 good saves in that time. Then for the last 15 mins Reading came back into it and either side had a chance of winning going into the last 5 mins. Then obviously Juke skied the penalty.
Thomas did ok used the ball well when he had it but didn't really see enough of it. Bell had a good game making some good passes which nearly resulted in goals, Mcsheffrey was great nearly all things attacking went through him. Mcdonald was pretty anonymous again and Juke was great until he skied the penalty.
We really should have won but didn't, IF we are relegated it's games like today where the difference could and should have been made up.
IMO it was the best performance of the season I have seen, I have only missed the Palace and Borough game in the league, all others I have been at the ground or watched it on TV.

played well, not a lot to offer upfront, tired of typing the same thing. Deserved a win.

just on another point, people started leaving at 76 mins today with the score at 1-1. Whats the point of even coming!

Decent performance but wasn't impressed by Reading. 2 points definitely dropped, will regret not winning games like that come end of the season.

Just a few of my thoughts on the Reading game..............

Before the game I think I would have taken a draw and a decent performance so despite the fact we missed a big opportunity for 3 points I am actually not disappointed by the result or performance on that basis. But it should have been 3 points and we could rue those missed points later in the season

McSheffery – Had a decent game, still lightweight but made himself available and got involved. Lovely pass from Bell for his goal but lets be honest should never have beaten Federici from there – poor keeping. Still whether it was the right decision to shoot or bad keeping or not it did a lot of good for his confidence and was one of his better games

Hussey – thought he had one of his better games too. Got forward, made the right decision more often than not and looked a decent option going forward. Got to say though that our left side looked the most vulnerable.

Christie – Generally a decent performance, blotted by the penalty. The player was looking for it and going no where, but the challenge was naive, luckily Murphy got him out of jail. Was good to see senior players geeing Christie up after it.

Murphy had a good game, looked solid with good distribution. Good save (didnt just palm away) from a poor penalty.

Thought that Keogh and Crainie looked a little rocky against Le Fondre and Church. The Reading movement was better than ours, and we didnt track players well. Got better as game went on but there were some left overs from the Ipswich game.

Clingan – seemed to misplace a few passes and had an ok game. In fact there were quite a few misplaced passes by all players on the day. Thomas – had a decent first full home game, never looked out of place but sometimes the game passed him by, he will improve with matches

Juke – tried hard as always, we all know he isnt the quickest so why is it he so often has to do it on his own? McDonald was fairly anonymous and every time Juke got the ball looked up he had one option – to go it alone. We lack pace – it is so clear but we havent as yet solved it. Juke had a tough game against a decent Reading defence but really should have at least got the penalty on target – after the run to get the decision, the importance of scoring surely our captain should have had a word to settle him down before the kick

The system- really do not think it is as tight as it should be. It is hit and miss whether it works and too many gaps across the pitch. For me it isnt balanced. We play a diamond but have Clingan and Bigi/Thomas at the base of it then Juke goes out wide to left, he ends up crossing the ball to the man who should be there and isnt. The system relies on confidence and ours is not great. It also relies on good quick passing with decent retention of the ball - havent really seen that so far

Referee and linesman – Now they dont make teams win or lose a game, thats down to the players but they do influence things. Thought they had a pretty poor game to be honest – missed a lot decisions, were inconsistent but got the penalties right. This after Linnell was saying what a good ref he was on radio build up to match – DOH!

Was a decent performance but this was not two great teams, both struggling. In the end it will be remembered for the penalty miss but that is harsh. Probably the right scoreline in the end. Reading looked sharper first half but CCFC took the second half

just my opinion :)

Thomas, was asked to play on the right of the diamond which is not his natural game, however got some tackles in, and offered Christie some cover allowing him to make overlapping runs forward. Suffered with cramp for the last 15 minutes of the game. Played a delightful ball to Juke which put him in a similar position as to what McSheffrrey did when he scored however Juke opted to hold onto the ball and for us to get a cross in.

Readings forwards definitely started the better and our central 2 (Mainly Keogh) struggled with the movement of them, Keohg then got a decent had tackle in on Le Fondre and he was certainly a lot quieter, our defenders then began to cope a lot better with the Reading attacks.

The ref and Lino were seemingly very pro Reading, Priskin in particular seemed to be able to get away with a lot when it came to jumping with Juke. McDonald needs to sharpen up, once he get s fit I am sure they will form a decent partnership but at the minute he is not really getting near enough to Juke, however he did show some nice touches and tight control and also showed he can bring a ball down and bring other into play.

As for Deegan, I was surprised with his inclusion on the bench especially after only having 3 or 4 full training sessions and was happy that we did not risk him.

Agree with most of the above..but isn't Priskin a striker at Ipswich? Do you mean Gorkss? He is a beast.
