I Can smell the salt already coming from the offices at uefa , they must hate that all 4 teams in the finals are from the English premier league

European super cup too

Just need England to win the nations league now to send them and FIFA into total meltdown haha

Considering how lucrative English football is I really don't think there's much to the idea that everyone hates us.

Seriously? One English goalscorer from 12 goals. They're not English teams, they're 4 large corporations playing in a game of monopoly designed by UEFA

They are 'English' teams in name only. Foreign owners, foreign managers, foreign players.
The only good thing is it might persuade more top players (foreign of course) to move to the EPL and we'll get to see them on TV.

1 direct flight a week from UK to Baku or a lengthy delay in Kiev or Istanbul. 58 hour drive or 4 day train journey. Arsenal and Chelsea given 6000 tickets each in a near 70000 seater stadium. I understand they want to showcase these events around the continent in order to make vast sums of money... But surely UEFA should be chartering hotels/flights for these games to ensure fans get there safely and don't get ripped off.

With mostly English fans that will stand little or no chance of getting a ticket to watch the game

In the age of carbon footprints & all that, you would think UEFA would wait until the semi-final stageto pick a final venue somewhere centrally really wouldn't you?
So Paris would have been a good choice for the Europa & maybe Zurich or Turin for Champions League? These are prestigious events that venues would pull the stops out to hold at that shortish notice as well.

Is there an argument to say that both finals should be played in England to make it easier for the fans to get to

Champs league at Wembley

UEFA league at spurs ground

Moving both to England is a no go for me. Part of the experience is going elsewhere. I’m not a fan of any of the 4 teams but for England I’d rather travel than have an international tournament here. Plus there are genuine fans that would’ve purchased tickets, travel and accommodation months ago. It’s not fair on them to change the venue.

and if UEFA said they were going to kill pensioners in the centre circle at half time you'd be wanking over it.

I agree about travelling abroad with Cov, I think it's fair to say the novelty isn't quite as strong among supporters whose team play in Europe year in and year out.

It's just about using a bit of common sense, the FA are the same, making clubs from the North west travel to Wembley for FA cup games that they've moved the kick off to 5:30pm for though no doubt you think that's a great idea as well.

Believe it or not I don't read all your posts, if you posted that about the FA cup then I'm surprised, it doesn't fit with your usual opinions.
And can you point out where I lied?

The whole point of being in a European competition is that you venture to places like this surely? I would be gutted meeting another English team which you already play at least two times home and away and they move it to Wembley or something like that!

Its not a novelty, I have mates who are United followers, every season they go to 2 or 3 of the European away games, believe me they, and thousands of other United fans, have enjoyed their trips to Barcelona, Paris and Valencia a hundred times more to days out in Wolverhampton and Cardiff. United and Liverpool must have played in Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, Munich tens of times but still take thousands of fans every time they play, there's no novelty there.

Part of the European experience, especially the final, is the journey there, speak to Liverpool fans who drove to Istanbul and back, United fans who flew, trained and drove to get to Stockholm a few years ago, miserable people who sit on forums and complain about the world wouldn't get any joy from that sense of adventure though.

Football has long given up pretending to give a fuck about the paying attendee.

For me, if we get to Europe and we're playing in the arse end of Kazakhstan, I'll be there.
But what about the bloke who goes home and away with 2 kids in tow?
Now if the game in Khazakhstan is against Legia Warsaw then fair enough, but if it's against Leicester then why not give the fans a break?
The paying fan is being taken for a mug. No doubt some of those on this thread that are ok with it are the same ones singing let down by the football league!!

Ha, I reckon a few might get a shock when they expect to behave like it's the Ricoh or England and get a baton wrapped round their head!

They should be seriously looking at the environmental implications of dragging thousands of people and all that goes with them 5,000 miles for a game. Play it in the Stade de France and let them get the Eurostar.

But being nominated as the venue for the final is a major coup and does masses for the local economy

I guess it depends if you're more concerned with the economy of Azerbaijan or the environment that we all have to live in.
