Can't understand the hate for Madders, top player who will go far. Wish him well like we all do for Callum Wilson. He's certainly the best we've produced in my lifetime. Based on ability, we'd be stupid not to have him back. Can't see it though because of the shit he gets of the fans, why would he come back after that?

Best in your lifetime.... are you aged 1? He is over rated, falls over at the first glimpse of a tackle and will not succeed. Callum Wilson as an example already scored in the premier league and valued at millions.

Wouldn't say he's the best in my lifetime. For the younger fans I would think that would be Wilson or maybe Armstrong. Saying that he has the potential, in part will be down to how he applies himself. How many players have been where he is but then end up in the lower leagues a few years down the line.

Don't really get the hate for former players, especially ones that came up through the ranks. Sure it would be nice to keep them longer but we have to accept the level we are at. Personally I like seeing our former academy players doing well.

I'm 17, I think he'll be better than Wilson. Just my opinion. Name someone better we have produced.

You think.
It is proved Callum is better Prem league being followed by the likes of Arsenal has already done the business.
Madders has a long way to go just to catch him up.
He is not strong enough for the prem they would murder him.

Like I said, in my lifetime

All these have played for a club higher than Madders has so far, most have played at a higher level for their country:

Marcus Hall
Chris Kirkland
Callum Davenport
Gary McSheffrey
Ben Turner
Callum Wilson

Arguably: Daniel Sturridge.
Edit: also arguable: Bassala Sambou

Cyrus Christie as well since Maddison hasn't played a Chmpionship league game yet.

Also add Craig Pead and Andrew Whing to that list; may as well.

I'd stick Pead in just for having one of the more unfortunate chants of his name.

'So far'. That's the point it's all about opinions. I think he will be a premiership footballer and better than any of those. You can't really count Sturridge and bass is not better that Madders.

Bass was signed by a bigger club, so someone thinks he's better. All of those players have played in the Prem and at Madison's age were first team regular for Championship or higher.

Maybe one day Madison will develop into a Premiership player, maybe he won't. But he hasn't shown the same ability as those players at the same age.

Maddison undoubtably has ability but his problem seems to be attitude, you can see it with his twitter arguments. After being sold you could see him strolling around the pitch flat footed as he felt like he was better than here, shouting at far more experienced players because he didn't want to accept that he too was performing poorly. Blackpool away in particular he was one of the worst players in the team and I couldn't believe we got £3m for him.

So many footballers have the ability but never make it due to their attitude, it's one of the problems with English football. If he thinks he's 'made it' after one transfer to a Championship club then he will fail, if he puts the effort in then he could be a very good player.

The difference with Wilson is that he made the right move, to the right club at the right time, he left gracefully with deference for the club and has gone on to be successful. Remember him being mooted for England duty before his injury and I personally don't see JM as an England player.

Fair dos, that's your opinion, but you're only 17.In my opinion,(and I'm 40),there've been better players than Maddison who've gone on to do better than him,not a long list but there are some.
He may well potentially be a Prem player, but at this moment in time,he's done nothing really (he's not even figuring for Norwich)

He won us points single handedly last year. He has more ability than bass clearly or bass would've been in out first team. At the same age he's shown more ability than Wilson had and Ben turner. i agree with Davenport but he didn't have a successful career for other reasons. Mcsheffrey didn't feature regularly til he was 20. Fair enough hall but his career went backwards from his youth. I never seen Kirkland play for us but again I think Maddison will be better than a reserve premiership keeper.

Yeah I'm sure there has been, but I said in my lifetime and therefore I won't slag him off because I had the pleasure of seeing a home grown lad do well for us. Like I said he won us points on his own last year.

The bitterness towards Maddison on this forum is utterly baffling.

I don't think it is bitterness, some fans saw him for what he is a promising youngster with flaws. Yes his first few senior appearances were very good but that can soon unravel. His injury was unfortunate last year but not unusual. Still had a lot to learn and prove.

As Mowbray said, he has barely learnt how to tie his boots.

I remain open minded on whether or how much he will progress but in our situation that's not the issue and he isn' t what we need. We need a ball winner and if he only lays the ball off to someone who can pass that's OK by me

If he can pass and run the game, well deepjoy, but this is the third division and we can't afford very much
