Having seen more angles of the video - including one where an agent clearly disarms the man well before he was shot - there seems to be absolutely no way at all to justify him being shot dead.

The attempts by the government to smear the victim are shameful and the people who obediently parroted their claims in the name of ‘waiting for the facts’ should be embarrassed.

dont worry will get to the truth

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) says it's been denied access to the shooting scene by federal agents, even though it has a search warrant.

"When our team arrived, they were blocked by federal agents," BCA Supt Drew Evans says at a news conference.

Evans says the BCA will keep investigating the case, but admits it will be "difficult" to gather all the evidence without co-operation.

yeh the truth will come out no problem wont be a coverup

authorities in Minnesota have filed a lawsuit against federal agencies to prevent the destruction of evidence concerning the shooting of Alex Pretti.

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office and the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension jointly filed the lawsuit as well as a motion for a temporary restraining order in the US District Court for the District of Minnesota.

They were filed against the Department of Homeland Security; Immigration and Customs Enforcement; Customs and Border Patrol; the US Border Control; and "their respective leadership". US Attorney General Pam Bondi is also named as a defendant.

"Evidence covered by today’s filings includes evidence the defendants, and those acting at their direction and under their authority, took from the scene of the shooting, preventing state authorities from inspecting it," the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office said in a statement.

“Federal agents are not above the law and Alex Pretti is certainly not beneath it,” said Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison.

This is a photograh. It certainly doesn't clear anything up, especially if there was a gun involved, as it is not shown here. That is also aimed at the counter-story which has a picture of a gun with next to no context either.

You weren't there, and neither was anyone in this thread. There is a lot of disinformation going on from people that want their agenda matched online and I don't think the truth of this has actually been made available enough for any of us to make a totally confident 100% judgement.

“The agents pulled the man on the ground. I didn’t see him touch any of them – he wasn’t even turned toward them. It didn’t look like he was trying to resist, just trying to help the woman up. I didn’t see him with a gun. They threw him to the ground. Four or five agents had him on the ground and they just started shooting him. They shot him so many times … I don’t know why they shot him. He was only helping. I was five feet from him and they just shot him …

She continued: “I have read the statement from DHS about what happened and it is wrong. The man did not approach the agents with a gun. He approached them with a camera. He was just trying to help a woman get up and they took him to the ground.

“I feel afraid. Only hours have passed since they shot a man right in front me, and I don’t feel like I can go home because I heard agents were looking for me. I don’t know what the agents will do when they find me. I do know that they’re not telling the truth about what happened.”

It's now beyond the point of whether you are pro or anti Trump. It's a case of morality.

Some on here show an incredible lack of morals and humanity because of the side they decided to be on.

They disbelieve what their eyes see and swallow the narrative being sown by those who strip rights of their own citizens.

Increasingly, those who thought they would never be a target because of how they looked are just as vulnerable as the brown people Trump and ICE are targeting. You only have to look at that guy they murdered yesterday.

I agree with the amount of shots fired, it is extremely excessive. Again though, we don't know the context. If he had a gun and starts wrestling around and fighting, many law enforcement officers have been killed this way dealing with criminals. They are not going to hesitate in shooting you for that reason. When they shoot you, they will do so to make sure you aren't getting up. It isn't just a warning.

What we do know is that law enforcement do not fuck around in the US. If someone thinks it is ok to wave a gun around (with or without a permit) and expect nothing to happen, then that is ridiculously naive. It's easy to get outraged online, but it is not the real world. America is a shit show in that regard, and it is extremely irresponsible for people whipping up others by telling them to resist or that kicking off is ok. We are going to see more people killed. This is not the UK where you might get pepper sprayed or hit with a baton. You are in all likelihood getting shot, and it is game over.

And no, I would not like to see these practices in the UK. I think we need to be a lot tougher on immigration, but that doesn't mean what they are doing is going the right way about it. I have said many times that I do not agree with many of their behaviours and tactics, and I do actually think (whether this is relevant in this situation or not is too early to tell) Trump is enabling this significantly by making this department largely unaccountable.

What an odd thing to say. Not only do you know absolutely nothing about my history and life, "how America works" does not justify what happened in this specific incident.

It's obvious that you're desperate for the victim to have done something that would somehow make the actions of the ICE officers acceptable. Every single thing that you accuse me and others of doing, is you projecting your own behaviour onto other people.

No. You are too deep into your political views that you think I am against you because I'm not regurgitating the same stuff that you are. I am not desperate for him to have done something wrong, I am just highlighting to you what happens in America if you mess around with law enforcement and have a weapon. It can result in you losing your life, and that is what none of you seem to understand.

It has very little to do with what is right or wrong, and everything to do with the situation in the USA.

You have no evidence that he was "waving a gun around", "messing with law enforcement" or any of the other behaviour that you've attributed to him because none exists.

I understand that you're too far into this to back down and feel like you have nowhere else to go but continue to insist that it's everyone else who cannot get past their own biases and you are the sole voice of reason, but the evidence is right there in front of all of our faces and has been verified by multiple eyewitnesses and state officials: Video contradicts Trump’s claim man killed in Minneapolis was a ‘gunman’

While Pretti was legally licensed to have a gun, it is unclear whether he had one on his person at the time of the incident, and the videos do not show him ever having one in his hand.

Video provided to the Guardian by a Minneapolis resident who drove past the scene at 8.58am local time, as a group of observers recorded video on their phones of federal officers on Nicollet Avenue in south Minneapolis, showed Pretti standing on the street holding up his phone as one officer reached out and shoved him back. Pretti retreated, but appeared to continue recording the officer as he did so.
Video recorded by another witness, who was standing behind Pretti, obtained by Drop Site News, showed that Pretti continued recording the immigration enforcement operation on his phone, as other observers blew their whistles and honked their horns, and appeared to direct traffic so that cars could pass the scene.

A higher-resolution copy of the same clip, posted online by Minnesota Public Radio, showed that Pretti then stepped in to defend another observer who was shoved to the ground by a federal officer. That officer sprayed Pretti with a chemical agent, repeatedly, before tackling him to the street along with two other agents.

In a scene recorded by at least two other witnesses – one further up the street, whose footage was obtained by the Associated Press, and another inside Glam Doll Donuts across the street, whose video was posted on Facebook – seven agents quickly surrounded Pretti. As they held him down, and hit him, one officer in jeans and a grey jacket reached down toward Pretti’s lower back and then stepped away with what appeared to be a gun. At that moment, one of the agents shouted: “Gun! Gun!”

Footage appears to show moment Alex Pretti is shot dead by federal agents in Minneapolis – video
Less than a second later, another agent drew a gun and appeared to fire a shot at Pretti from close range. As the agents stepped back, another officer pointed a gun at Pretti, and a volley of 10 more shots rang out.

Again, I haven't said it was justified. I've said in the USA if you are interfering with law enforcement then you are gambling with your life. On average three people per day are killed over there by them, so the risk is very high. They don't need an excuse half the time.

His family have said they pleaded with him not to go and get involved. That doesn't mean they think it is ok he was killed either. It means they were aware of the risks. It is incredibly dangerous over there and I don't think many of you on here quite appreciate that.

I don't think it is right either of these two people in question were killed, but if people want to go there and kick off because they're upset about this, this thread is going to spike, because there will be more people losing their lives. It is dangerous, and on a knife edge right now.

How rich is it that she is saying showing up to the scene of a protest with a legally owned weapon should be grounds for a person’s death, execution at the hands of the state, by the same party and the same administration that praises Kyle Rittenhouse.

Yes this is exactly what I think, and I agree with you. This goes further than just protesting though. It is in every single walk of life. Even a botched traffic stop could be game over for you. It is that volatile there.

I think it is probably less about the right to protest and more to do with every day life. Has Trump made it worse though? Almost certainly yes. Like we said earlier, bodycams need to be a must with these ICE agents with immediate effect.

Family statement:
We are heartbroken but also very angry. Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital," the family said in a statement provided to CNN.

"Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately he will not be with us to see his impact. I do not throw around the hero term lightly. However his last thought and act was to protect a woman."

"The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump’s murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He has his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down all while being pepper sprayed."

"Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thank you."

------

It is our responsibility as Americans to get the truth out there. Petti was not attempting to harm anyone. He was swarmed, beaten, and disarmed by vicious federal agents who were looking for someone to hurt. Once they had removed his gun — which he had a legal permit to carry — they executed him in cold blood by firing numerous bullets into him. Then, the Trump administration proceeded to immediately falsely smear him as a "terrorist" who wanted to carry out a mass shooting against law enforcement. They're utterly shameless.

“He cared about people deeply and he was very upset with what was happening in Minneapolis and throughout the United States with ICE, as millions of other people are upset,” said Pretti's father Alex. “He thought it was terrible, you know, kidnapping children, just grabbing people off the street. He cared about those people, and he knew it was wrong, so he did participate in protests.”

Rest in power Alex. The rest of us will carry on the fight.
