A little bit unfair we live in a global world order and were acting in line with what the USA expected of us and trump has suddenly changed the agreeement
Has no one said 98% of your tariffs are paid by USA people or companies

I read something a while ago that suggested that some in the the USA want it to lose its reserve currency status, can't remember the reason why

Problem is Canada has the raw materials, natural resources and agricultural products (that it is no longer selling to US) that China wants (or is no longer buying from US) - Europe doesn't have the same to offer.

I think the argument is that it's current status increases demand for the dollar, thus keeping its value higher than it would otherwise be on a trade-weighted basis. This causes the US to be disadvantaged in world trade.

It's the sort of thing that could cause a US President to introduce tariffs on imports

Iceland = Greenland?

if you still need convincing that he's just a mouthpiece for wealthy people and vested interests, here's a bit more proof that he doesn't really know where he is, who he's talking to, or what he's talking about.

Trump for sure has some sort of early dementia.

My Grandma would often going into long rambling rants at the start, before it took hold more and now she says very little.

Well you're wrong, the White House have said categorically he didn't say Iceland!

Earlier, we reported that Donald Trump appeared to confuse Greenland with Iceland during his speech in Davos, and – despite what we all heard – the White House is now steadfastly denying that there was a mix-up at all.
To elaborate on our earlier post, in one of several such mix-ups, Trump said:
They’re [Nato] not there for us on Iceland, that I can tell you, I mean our stock market took the first dip yesterday because of Iceland, so Iceland’s already cost us a lot of money.
Despite this fact, in response to a journalist highlighting Trump’s mix-ups on X, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt hit back with this denial:
No he didn’t, Libby. His written remarks referred to Greenland as a ‘piece of ice’ because that’s what it is. You’re the only one mixing anything up here.
Leavitt included a screenshot of a search for Greenland featuring a picture of a block of ice in the sea in front of some land.

Well I joked about it, but someone has actually gone and proven me right.

RICHARD LITTLEJOHN: Trump should buy Britain instead of Greenland

Trump's threat to slap crippling tariffs on NATO allies, including Britain, who oppose his Greenland grab is outrageous. But if I had to put money on it, that ain't gonna happen either.

There's no deal done at all.

NATO is not Denmark, let alone Greenland.

This is simply Trump backing down whilst being allowed to save face for his domestic audience.

There's never been an issue with allowing U.S. bases in Greenland, which is all that this deal will achieve.

Trump wanted a land grab, Europe and Canada stood together, the markets got spooked, Trump backed down. It's a common pattern.

All he's achieved is to sow further distrust with his allies, and show them how to defeat his bullshit and bluster. Not at all smart, but then as his demonstrates when he talks, he's a rather stupid man.
