They often say the problem is that it actually makes their job much harder, because they can't think of anything funnier or more stupid than what has actually been said.

Armando Ianucci has said that some of the stuff that happened under Trump, Johnson and Truss was far more ridiculous than anything he came up with for the Thick of It.

No denying that he isn’t particularly funny, but last time I checked that wasn’t a crime.
