Maguire was a permanent signing on a six month contract. McNally, Cuffy and Esbrand-Wilson joined on loan

Of course! Cos we had Adaramola in the summer. Forgot McNally only came in for half the season too.

Imagine we get another few loans in like that this window. Would just be the icing on the cake.

Any names? Did he say if loans or perm? Is one of these the ambitious signing Nixon alluded to?

The main issue with loans is they're either the Wilson-Esbrand level (worth us signing them now? We're not as desperate for depth) or they expect a first team place, and who would they actually get in front of just atm?

I suppose you do have to factor in inevitable injuries...

Are there any serious names out there that we could be after? Half way through the window now and only one incoming with one outgoing so no nett gain to squad depth. Two or more would be ideal. Some European leagues finished their season a few weeks back nowcso anyone from there would need bringing back upto speed and not really going to give immediate returns for us. Some quality loans may be the way forward, but I think we are past the likes of Sean Mcquire this year.

We can only speculate as to who is being targeted but little doubt there are irons in the fire. Quite rightly we are only likely to find out when they are done deals.

I think we’re more likely to rotate the front three and want different options in a game TBF. They’re up against Godden and literally no one right now, you’d back yourself to get a game or two.

He's only got a contract to the end of this season, so the effect is the same.

Say three come in, I expect a winger, a striker and another centre half to replace Fadz

With Fadz not likely to return and Kelly off, Latibeaudiere is stretched quite thin across RB/RCB/DM. Could see another coming in in one of those positions.

The slight issue is - if it's a loan, we couldn't guarantee any game time. If it's a permanent signing will need to be decent quality (although should we reach the PL, they would be unlikely to be 'that' good - but wouldn't matter, as the PL money would make that irrelevant) Interesting times!!

Still think most likely is a RCB. Can’t see us signing an out and out DM and no one is getting in ahead of MvE (plus Saka and the LBs can play there in a pinch). If a first team quality player like a Brekalo or this Nigerian lad we were linked with comes up I could see us bringing them in to compete with Thomas for a first team spot.

Wouldn’t rule out a keeper perhaps on loan we only have Collins and Wilson especially if Moore moves on.

The loss of Kelly and Fadz leaves us with a ridiculously young (exciting) squad. Only really Bidwell, then Sheaf (25) I'm guessing of outfield regulars. Sets us up beautifully for next season, though - if we fall short this.

Is really. Bristol City still paid a portion of Palmer's wage until his contract was set to end there. Still freed up some budget for them

Whoever it is we could do with a couple through the door this week really. After Saturday the next six are the most compressed fixtures at the moment (cup run pending), would be good to be able to blood players in the cup and rotate a bit.

But we have the other two young lads. Are either of them injured?
Don’t see the point of having another keeper when we already are top heavy in that position

I'm not saying we should get him & I think he's already on loan somewhere but I reckon JWE would fit in as a back up to Wright.

Isn’t he a left wing back? So would be competing with Da Silva and Bidwell.

Didn’t look good enough higher up the pitch imo.

Any news on links to wingers? Seems important now Wright is out for a month. Doubt Robins wants to play a makeshift winger there for the next 5/6 games, and what if someone else picks up an injury.

Amazing to think that of the team that started at Wembley only 2 players are nailed on starters for us - Bidwell and Sheaf.

Robins always looking to progress the team and in even better news looks as if more players are incoming.

And something we don’t talk about enough players improve under his watch (kudos to the coaches) - Vik, Hamer as recent examples adding real value to the club in transfer fees.

I expect the value of MVE, Kitching, Sheaf, Saka, Wright, Simms to soar over the next 12 months - down to great scouting (buying on attributes) and coaching.

I think we may have bought at the top in terms of Wright and Kitching’s value. Maybe even Simms, but he’s young. Nothing wrong with that - that’s how you build a team that’s capable of winning now - but we shouldn’t be banking on every player we sign being flipped for several multiples of their transfer fee, that’s not going to happen. You only need one or two to hit anyway.

I thought he was not good enough defensively and more a wide left player than a full back. He would be a better option than JDS if played ahead of Bidwell.

Not really. Kitching was a league 1 CB, he's going to be worth more as an established Championship CB, when clubs know what he can do in this league. Same with Wright. He was worth whatever scoring goals in the Turkish Super Lig, if he scored 20 in the Championship he would fetch more than what we bought him for.

Not many Championship CBs of Kitching’s age get sold for more than £4.5m. Wright is playing very well and is still some way off being a 20-goal a season striker. I like both players a lot and they are extremely valuable to us, but I’m not banking on either commanding Gyokeres/Hamer-size fees in the future. I think we’ve signed them to be the cornerstones of a four/five-year window of going for it, and that’s great.

It took Wright a while to get going, but based on form since he actually cemented his place in the starting line-up (West Brom), and considering we changed formation against Stoke which better suited him, his scoring record is 1 in 2. That's 23 over a 46 game season, so don't see how he's some way off being a 20-goal a season striker (he's a winger anyway, so 20 goals would be crazy impressive).

Wright cost 7.5 million, doesn't need a Gyokeres/Hamer size fee to be profitable.
