I know it's only a rumour but I can't help but think we need an "old head" in there if we are playing a very young back 5.

Couldn't agree more, we need a slightly younger than Fadz replacement for Fadz. Plenty of people have mentioned names but I don't see us being linked to that type of defender unfortunately. Personally I'd like to see us go for Charlie Goode from Brentford or Shane Duffy from Fulham

That’s one where you could actually get some luck looking at cast offs from other Championship sides

Mate whos close to Patersons family claims hes coming here, 1.5 year deal

We all thought that before though, but would take him on that length of contract while Cals injured

The lack of succession planning for Fadz has been a huge issue.

Longer term, I thought that Kipre from Cardiff/West Brom looked a similar type of player to Fadz. Looked very good against us I thought.

To go back to goalies, I'd hope we have taken a look at Michael Cooper of Plymouth. Only young, but gets a lot of plaudits and playing consistently top end of league one. Would be a case of now before potential promotion and being priced out.

Surely that's a typo? Obviously you mean Richard Duffy from Congleton Town.

Also, as we've now got 2 loanees from Citeh, isn't there a limit on how many any club can loan from one parent club ?

Clubs are allowed to sign up to eight players on loan but can only select a maximum of five loanees in a match squad. They can only sign a maximum of four players from a specific club, with only two being over the age of 23.

Looking at Saturdays performance we need a centre-half who can head a ball.

He would be my choice. Looked a good footballer. Read game well has good pace, not always trying to look pretty just does what has to be done. Which is what defending is about. Right age at 26 and has a fair few games under his belt.

2 years into a 4 year contract at WBA I believe.

That being said… a certain Michael MacIndoe used to run the show against us and that turned out great

I commented about him to my Cardiff supporting family and they said he’s really good on the ball. Looked solid against us.

Reckon our final loan will be a striker. Now we’ve got a LWB I can see Bidwell filling in until Fadz is back at the end of Feb.

The more I think about it the less I think we’ll make permanent signings this window unless something pops up. New owner, new recruitment team, massive changes in the summer. Makes sense to give the recruitment team time to find players on whatever the new budget is.

Ideally two.

But it doesnt even come to that sometimes. Its about competing in the air, making it as difficult as possible for the opponent. That is our biggest weakness. Blackpool and Wrexham too many guilty of just standing and watching. Letting the opposition play head tennis in our penalty area.

Considering his appalling stats, I'm not sure how he could be. You need more from an attacking full back than just a run down the line. At a higher level it is shown up even more.

Dabo was excellent in League one and decent in our first season in the Champ. Has been poor since and looks like he's never recovered from a string of injuries.

I keep getting told Bidwell is great going forwards but he has 1 assist in 41 games.

Looking forward to seeing two attacking wing backs in the same side. Yes it might weaken us defensively a little but I think it'll be more than made up for offensively as we can stretch teams with pace.

He’d be a stop gap, I’d rather us try and unearth a gem from a prem team or the lower leagues, not someone who’s flattered to deceive at this level for numerous years

His numbers were very good last season. Think he’d be perfect at least for the rest of this season behind Vik

One thing Dabo does very well is stretches the game out and draws the full back wide to create space on the inside channel, it's not all about direct assists but how a player helps create the conditions for others to get into good positions.

Correct. That's exactly his role. In our system the wingbacks aren't supposed to be the main creators.

We were at our best last season with Dabo and Maatsen high and wide up the pitch and I think that's exactly what these two loans have been brought in to do.

Was just reading Alan Nixon saying about the amount of teams recalling players from loans that haven't worked out. I wonder with Doyle doing well and Wilson-Esbrand joining whether we might stand a chance of snatching Liam Delap from Stoke. Rory Delap has just left Stoke due a restructure.

Quoting myself because I'm so self absorbed... But sounds like Delap will be recalled. Hope Doyle's progression could put us in with a chance of getting him.
