QPR were interested in him so that rules us out.

A few classics from the account that started this rumour include:

Godden being sold to Sunderland last season
Us having no interest in signing Bright
Ostigard returning on loan last year
Ryan Haynes coming back
signing Andy Carroll
Jack Wilshere training with us
Gael Clichy signing.

Safe to say Cox isn't coming

Robins saying this morning in the CT that he wants a max of 4 signings, all of which will be loans for the back-end of the pitch.

1 nearly agreed with another nearly there

We saw with Mowbray the problem once the loans go back. There's also the issue of team spirit, and also effort from some loanees if they're contractually encouraged to play every game ahead of our own players.

Give me a permanent signing every day of the week, unless the next Messi is being offered out.

I interpreted it as 3 loans and 1 permanent, perhaps 2 loan CB, 1 loan LWB and a permanent CB

3 CB would make us quite heavy there with them all expecting to play. Unless Fadz has decided he wants out because of his wages or Leeds have finally scraped the cash together to buy Rose I don’t see it happening.

Mark Robins has provided a progress report on Coventry City’s recruitment drive, outlining how many new players he expects to sign this summer.

Speaking from the club’s training camp in Spain, the Sky Blues boss said this morning that at this stage of the pre-season he’s looking at a maximum of four fresh faces, all of whom will be loan deals for the back end of the pitch.

We literally have no pot to piss in.

I think the ideal 4th signing will be another RWB with Kane going out which is why that is only a maybe in the article.

Otherwise I think it's 2xcb and a lwb.

That said we’ve had a decent record under Robins of using loans as try before you buy. Got O’Hare, Sheaf and Györkeres that way, and nearly JCS. Arguably it’s been our safest recruitment funnel.

I'm still going to wait until the end of the Window and then judge.

I don't think Robins has ever been the type to give much away and over hype stuff, he isn't going to say we have shit loads of money to spend as prices go up.

If we get another right back they will have to rename him Gareth Robins we have loads of them already, if he isn’t going to use reid we are hopelessly short on the left side.

Forest went up due to loanees. If you get it right, it's spot on. 4 loans supplementing what we have including keeping the big 3, getting Eccles, Dabo and Godden fit all season doesn't seem too bad to me.

‘Back end of the pitch’ is a weird way of wording it if it was just defenders, maybe a GK?

I'd be happy with that if we kept all of our established players.

McCallum and two Ostigard equivalent loans and we have a strong squad.

It's a fair point, although Gyokeres must have shown something in training that he didn't really show during the matches when he was on loan! Sheaf was effectively permanent when on loan too, as the deal was set up beforehand.

Hearing that isn't overwhelmingly exciting, however, and I am speculating here, I am guessing that is the plan should we not sell any of the bigger names for good cash. If that is the case, although below fan expectation (it's always going to be), it's not actually a bad position to be in.

We get to keep all our best players from last season with more experience and we have swapped Shipley and Jones for one attacking midfielder with significantly higher quality (whether he can play the games is a ?) which I think we all wanted, less deadwood, more quality. We then are looking to replace like for like with JCS and Maatsen with another 1 possibly 2 loans on top. It's not my dream scenario, but if that's the situation, we should be incrementally stronger. I hope he is hiding something up his sleeve, and obviously if we just do that and sell one of the valuable assets it becomes a significantly harder pill to swallow.

Also speak to the idea of a stopgap season.

Next season we’re likely to have 4/5 sellable assets, and something like 20 players out of contract (including a bunch of kids). Good time for a rebuild.

Maybe. Nick also makes a fair point (for once ) that Robins tends not to announce what actually happens in advance. It's still a wait and see, although now they're off touring and training, we're getting less time to bed people in all the while.

Darling £1.4m to Swansea, McNally £1.6m to Burnley & Ahmedhodzic to Sheffield United for £3m.

Can’t compete with those figures for CB.

Let’s hope we can get Johnathon Panzo on loan !

Maybe Panzo will play tomorrow night. Will be nice to see what all the fuss has been about!

If MR has truly had a long term interest in him, and with Forest getting promoted, now would seem a perfect time to sign him up.

If a summer of record season ticket sales, plus an extensive clearing of the decks of fringe first team players is only enough to secure one permanent signing all summer, then that’s very concerning indeed.

Yep because there is no such thing as a loan fee or wages to a loan signing, we get them for free

If loans cost the same, why does anyone do them?

If they cost less, then they are by definition the cheap option.

But still an expense though, the way people are going on it's like we aren't going to spend any money at all... Obviously we would all prefer perm signings but if we can get better quality than we already have on loan I don't see the issue and as we have shown in the past if they are any good there is a good chance they will join permanently later on

Well we have still got the big 4 players in the building , a couple of decent loans being 1 CB and 1 LWB and I’d be ok with that.

We’d have to be lucky with injuries and suspensions but we need to add quality not quantity, we have a decent batch of youth team players to fall back on.

I think it was established that Cox wasn't even playing the time Robins watched Fotuna Sittard play

I think you vastly over exaggerate the difference money from season tickets makes on the budget. We have signed all our best player to much bigger salaries and the fringe players were not earning combined what o’hare earns.

Next season will be the big rebuild I feel.

Update from Robins about incoming, no revelations in there really. There with one, nearly there with another, hopefully add a third/fourth. All loans, all in "the defensive area of the pitch".

Not clear from that if the fourth is a loan or not TBF.

It is about getting the best calibre player. We have had some very successful loans over past few seasons, often them being the best players in the squad.

I would much rather some class/exciting loans than bang average players on permanent deals just for the sake of being able to say we have signed permanent.

We have had success in the loan market, no reason we won't again. I trust Robins.
