Blackburn have lost their captain Lenihan to Boro, Rothwell to Bournemouth and inevitably Brereton-Diaz. Shades of our 15/16 season…

Charlie Cresswell going to Millwall by the looks of it, another one I'd like to have seen here on loan, Millwall doing some great business so far

If his contact expires tomorrow then how were we trying to get him on loan?

Yeah, doesn't make sense. Although it was only the Telegraph saying it would be a loan & we all know their record of accuracy.

Believer also clarified it was a defender loan signing from a top 4 club, have the club mistakenly thought he was available for loan?

Unless it was one of those where the player signs a new contract and goes out on loan straight away?

Plausible but seems unlikely they would let his contract run down that low.

If his contract has run down why did Burnley pay a fee? Compensation?

It’s part of the development of player rules that were brought in to help protect clubs that invest in academies for years only to see players not sign new contracts at 19-20 and leave the club for nothing. The compensation isn’t normally huge.

@Skybluebeliever was the Egan-Riley move that fell through a loan or permanent

Strange that I can be so disappointed about not signing a player I know nothing about.

My understanding was the club were possible looking at both the defenders that have just gone to Burnley
They were also unsure if Man City would offer new terms I think

Going on what MR saud the other day some players contracts run to 1st of July. That date must have meaning as he wouldn't of said it, could be talks are with players and signings will come from Friday onwards. But who knows really other than MR himself clubs situation changes at any given day and looks like being quiet is the best policy unless you have all done

Van Hecke returning to Brighton will also be a big loss - was their POTS if I recall correctly. Khadra was highly rated also.

Which suggests they offered a new contract on at least equal terms.

Correct.

A little known fact as well is that out of contract players continue to be paid by their current club up until end of July unless they sign elsewhere in the meantime. Another reason why some business happens so late.

I think I’d quite like to see Michael Hector or Barbett on a permanent and on loan probably out of our budget but Mads Sorensen or Jarrad Branthwaite

Well they would've probably known he was in demand therefore it would've been pretty stupid not to.

Correct for PL and EFL
Non-League finish at the end of the season

Sorensen is firmly part of the first team squad at Brentford and established himself in the 11 towards the end, good suggestion with Branthwaite think a lot of Championship clubs would be interested in taking him

Has he? I checked his stats on Transfermarkt and saw 11 games and 892 minutes (in the PL) so assumed that it was spaced over the season, if so then definitely out of range

Was supposedly set to return to Bordeaux before they were relegated to the French third tier.

I'd imagine he'll look again in Europe for his next club.
