Tonight's 'new fan' questions and comments! (1 Viewer)

I'd ready and am expecting one or more of the following questions or comments;

1. 'You're in my seat!' (this despite me being an ST holder at the Ricoh since its opening and in this same seat all season long)

2. Is this Block 18/19/20/21 etc. etc.?

3. Is this the Ricoh Arena?

4. Why isn't Marlon King playing?

5. Do they have any toilets here?

6. Are we the ones in blue?

7. Andy Thorn has lost a lot of weight hasn't he!

Any more to add?

Have certainly encountered the first and second ones before (Chelsea) and have seen number one happen on a number of occasions to others too.

Seems some people who have hardly ever been before or even never been before seem to know an awful lot more than you about the stands and blocks and seating and which seat is theirs despite your protestations and reasoning!

The other thing that will make me chuckle tonight will be the amount of people who go down to the malls for food or the toilet and they come back up the steps into the stands and completely forget where they were sitting and stand there puzzled for a couple of minutes scratching their heads.

Am also expecting to see me having to get up and down out of my seat several times when people are late, leave early or find they were in the wrong seats/rows.

Really don't understand these people who just sit anywhere either. At the Sheff U JPT game one bloke was sitting in the wrong seat and clearly in the wrong seat. The correct ticket holder came along and this bloke simply would not move. Even when the steward came up to the seat he refused to budge. Took the steward a good little while to get him shifted!

Glad to have new people here, but it does carry some complications with it for sure! ;)

It will be people who dont know which turnstyle to go in and faff about outside and get in the way!

Turn up with their bag of food, cans of pop..only to be told cans not allowed in ground...then they complain causing congestion at turnstyle..

Also why does it takes newbies ages to get through the turnstyles. They stick their tickets in the reader then stand there waiting for someone to open the style#?

People who find the 'Jesus giz a song' chant hilarious & not embarrassing.. Then ask 'whys he called Jesus' people who have that 1 friend who goes up every week & is proudly taking their tourist friends on a tour. People who don't know the words to any song apart from PUSB. People who call Baker 'mcsheffery' & vice versa.

No people, almost everyone there tonight will have been many times before, but tonight they will just all be at the same game. I know a lot of casuals going tonight, some of you might call them 'fairweather', but they all go to the odd game, and all have been regulars at the ricoh at some point, especially in the early years.

The idea that there will be people wondering around not knowing what turnstile to go to is utter bollocks.

You've got to remember tonight that the turnstiles will be slower due to more tickets being registered on he system. So take that into account before you start lording it over someone taking 0.005seconds slower than you.

"I have still got £3.26 on my cashless card, cant you just accept that?" then causing a scene, walking away muttering to themselves saying its no wonder the club is in a mess.

I have also had the person next to me keep asking about the City players.

'Who's that?' 'Which player is this?' 'Is that Baker?'

As I say, good to welcome long lost and new fans, but it can be irritating at times. Do also find that with a number of 'returning fans' they are a lot less tolerant and very quick to get on players' backs and moan and groan.

Tonight is looking like it is going to be a tight, tough game. We are not just going to come out and blow Crewe off the park I wouldn't have thought.

We need patience from the fans tonight, as well as their support.

We certainly don't want fans who haven't been for some time, but appear to have expert knowledge on the team and the tactics, but also have with zero tolerance of any misplaced pass or poor play and start having a go at the team.

I wait with baited breath to see what sort of fan I have sitting next to me tonight! ;)

Hoping Chelsea is a bit different as some people only turned up to see them not city where as tonight no disrespect to Crewe but it's not a big draw. Although I had to sit somewhere in the ground I don't normally so could be me muttering and looking for my seat...

At the Burton game. There was someone near me who was shouting that the players were pathetic, useless, they are professional footballers that can't kick a ball straight etc. for most of the game.
But what summed it up was when he blurted out "Is this not a league game? Oh well what league are Burton in then?"

Didn't even though what he came to watch!

As I am on the other underside of the world I wont be there tonight but one day I will and would hope a regular would throw me a bone and help out a Ricoh newbie, after all if the matchday experience is enjoyable they may return.
Enjoy yourselves Lads and sing your hearts out, I will make do with what I can find online in the wee hours ... PUSB

Just hope those who are attending for the first time in ages show a bit of patience and understanding and don't come with the blinkered attitude that its "only" Crewe and we must be 3 up within the first ten minutes or they will start grumbling and complaining and worse of all moaning at a misplaced pass or even booing. Crewe are a decent team and there is every chance it will be a very close game and needs everyone, fairweather or long suffering, to get totally behind the boys for the entire 90 mins.

Where are you sitting? I want to come over and ask you all of the above (even though I'm a regular).

You've gotta be kidding !
The useless buggers behind the bars are unable to cope when just 5000 people show up.
They'll shit a brick when nearly 30,000 are there!

In fairness the regulars do a pretty good job of slagging the team off at times. As for booing, I think that is likely to come from the regular fans rather than the embarrassed masses that are coming back.

maybe these super fans can wear a special badge so others can shake their hands, buy them a pint and generally apologise for coming to watch the club they support as well!!!!
