It's a team, subs and some ball boys. No disrespect to the kids but did you see the photo of them training. They really are kids. They need to be eased in. If this squad does not get the extra signings, they will need go play 15 to 30 games depending on who gets injured. If they don't our main boys will run out of steam again.
Yep to get to a level from which acknowledged by Fisher was too depleted, we need 3 more senior signings ,To rely on 6 youth is too much, Caveat if Keogh goes 4more

You think we have squad problems....

http://www.portsmouthfc.co.uk/first-team.aspx

Bear in mind Kanu is about 86 yrs old and £35k a week Ben Haim is going to leave.....

WM

To be fair that's because they have purposely chosen not to play youth players because they then count as squad players and would mean they wouldn't be able to make any transfers, they'd rather name a bench of 2/3 players rather than a full one with academy kids. Where as we played Bigi, ruffels, Thomas, Willis, Henderson, Roberts, Christie, and had Burge on the bench last season - add them and it makes their squad page look a bit fuller. (plus Jeffers, Cameron and Clarke who had previously been around the squad)

Imagine

Keogh goes

Injury to Wood, Cameron, Baker and Cody for 4 weeks at same time (very likely at some point)

........................Murphy

Clarke ........Willis....Henderson.............Hussey

Fleck .........Kilbane.. Deegan...................Bell

................ Sheff.....Elliot

Subs

Dunn
Thomas
Ruffles
Wilson
Jeffers
Phillips

The problem is a injury during the game or when the game needs changing we will be all moaning that AT has not made changes. The depth is not there to cope with 4 senior pros out at the same time. One that happens through inuries and suspensions or lose of form. Then our subs bench is screwed so definately need more signings. Also two kids at centre back

You can do any combo of injuries to three of the senior pros at the same time to be fair. Then we have an 11 that hopefully may keep us up, as long as the inures are not long term. Add 5-6 players to this once Keogh goes then we should hit play off

Realistically its a squad of 18 plus kids. With 2 additions, its a squad of 20 plus kids...

I honestly dont think we will get much more than that, and prob shuldnt expect it with SISU.

However its composed it needs to be 28-30 cutting as they did from 35 -24 , and carrying passengers numbering 2 or 3 all season meant there was no real pressure on or competition for places .4 more would do it two more strikers with goals in their boots would make it possible to think about top six

Your point is an excellent one. However, in the scenario you suggest Kilbane would play centre half and Thomas centre mid.

I think SISU believe the team that played at Southampton make up the squad. In other words the kids are very much part of the squad, like last season. The only alternatives are
1) bring in a few real quality players ... Don't hold your breath
2) Get in a few quality loans ... Possible
3) Sign a couple of old warhorses.
4) Rely on the kids.
We all hope it is 1). The best we can hope for is one quality, a couple of warhorses and loans IMO.

If we get 2 in permanently then 2 in on loan for the season we are good to go imo
CB, 2 CM, ST I am hoping for

I think Wilson could be a player who steps up like Christie did last year, been unlucky with injuries but a very good athlete, quick and has an eye for goal.. Could be the surprise addition this year, seems to be a nice kid as well very down to earth...

Do we look at bit weak? I'm a bit worried that with AT's passing philosophy and such a small side, we could well get bullied out of a lot of points. There's not much grit in there and we will probably need some when the smaller teams come to try and rough us up.

I can only realistically see us signing 2 more players.

Mr Mutton gave something away today which probably shows what SISU are doing this season.

We are weak in terms of depth. You can't turn to kids when you get either long term injuries. Or you want to pull someone off your bench to either tighten up a game or change it.
That was our problem last season. SISU say they have learnt their lesson from last season. If it stays like this they have not. If they sign another 4 be it free transfers or loanees. Then hats off to them.

keep hold of Keogh and get the right CM and CF and I wouldnt be too unhappy at that.

if we lose Keogh and Willis and only get 2 in we are in strife.

Yes I agree but I think the centre forward is really crucial. We urgently need someone who is big, strong and will get us 15 goals. We do also need a driving central midfielder as well. Even if Keogh stays one more journeyman defender should be recruited as cover.

What's Sean Harrad doing these days - I knew someone at Burton and he always seemed to be scoring there.
