Thoughts on Barnsley Match
To be honest there isnt a lot that was positive
I think that Thomas Cameron and Christie acquitted themselves well. Thomas ran miles especially in the first half closing down players and putting pressure on the ball (whilst more experienced players stood and watched) Cameron, the only thing that let him down was his distribution but how often was he passed the ball to look up to find no one offering an option other than a long ball. Christie is not a left sided player and yes he got beaten for the second goal but he put in a decent shift and got forward when others didnt. Thomas is not a full back either but injuries meant needs must
We got beaten - in the end easily by a poor team that were there for the taking. The thing that worried me was that we didnt seem to have a plan, didnt seem to have a balance in the team and to some degree players who didnt seem to know their role. Is it just me but do others find it increasingly difficult to know exactly what formation we play. That confusion stems, i hate to say, from the manager. Add that to certain players going through the motions or in poor form and you get a footballing car crash
The senior players. The so called mentors of our younger talent. Where were they in the first half. Hussey didnt have a great game (the ref/lino didnt help with that penalty decision when the first offence was against Hussey) but apart from ROD he got precious little help. We can all see it teams target our fullbacks - surely we should be reacting to that? Clingan wasnt at the races in the first half, McSheffery when not falling over was shooting from ridiculous positions, his decision making was awful. Keogh and Crainie have lost that assurety they showed in the first few games. Bell came on and didnt do too bad. Platt comes on and immediately becomes the focus of our attacks, we resort to route one and a clear sign of a team lacking confidence and belief. Murphy is showing he can be a decent Championship keeper but he shouldnt be left so exposed. AT needs to find a way to motivate the senior players because right now the team relies on the youngsters to keep us in the game.
I know there were injuries etc but we didnt set up to be hard to beat. Players didnt appear to realise the covering they need to do. We persist in playing the fullbacks tight to the box and giving up space around our box leaving Hussey particularly exposed. We have a midfield that is lightweight, slow and generally chasing shadows. We dont appear to support or know that the main goal threat is Juke. We dont move forward with any great speed or purpose - playing pretty football at our back that hurts no one. Some of the positional decisions confuse and are clearly not well thought out. Sorry but that is largely down to the manager and his coaching team. I know it isnt easy for AT dealing with SISU but yesterday worried me for reasons more than just SISU
We got well beaten by a poor team
I hear the cry that it is all SISU's fault. Certainly not a fan of them at all. BUT yesterday we didnt lose because of SISU we lost because the players and manager failed to perform to a level that is acceptable.
PUSB - please!!!
