Probably already been said (not reading 7 pages of arguing) I'd say that overall Thorn's been a cracking scout - no-one can get every call spot on and, when you consider he's probably had his hands in the affore mentioned Gunnarson, Westwood, Fox, Dann, Baker (who was fantastic when he signed pre-Boothroyd era). Sure the odd bad one gets picked - a'la Bell (even then the managers seem to think he offers something even if we don't see it).

Still undecided on his abilities as a manager but, as a scout, rate him highly.

Pick a quote from Ranson at pretty much anytime since he's been involved with the club and you can find one contradicting it from himself.

Some of the funniest about-turns have to be seen to be believed with the Dann/Fox being sold off saga.

From "Heads turned/couldn't keep them/didn't need to sell", to "forced to sell by SISU", independent minds not much in eveidence, just believe and agree with everything that Ranson says, no matter how contradictory.

Not even going to go into debt-free, and leaving the club in a better state than he found it. or the trousering of enormous sums whilst the club lost more and more money.

Ransons history of being somewhat economical with the truth doesn't fill one with confidence that his statement on Carrol/Cork and Henderson anything more than self-aggrandaising grandstanding to garner a sympathetic hearing after being removed.

As OSB's post shows, the awarding of long contracts to these players at the time hardly points to their availability on the cheap to us.

I also doubt very much if the respective clubs either know or care what and ex Chairman of a Championship club has said, and must face much more fanciful claims every day.

it has already been established he wasn't even at the club for Dann and Fox and AG wasn't a Thorn 'find'.

That makes no difference. Apparantly he recommended Keith Houchen having marked him once he had a word with his then friend John Sillett. Dublin only signed as well because AT was a mate of a mate who knew Phil Neale.

I'm just grateful he discovered Tommy Hutchison and Colin Stein. As a young boy he was on holiday in Scotland and saw them both play.
He was impressed and immediately got his little pencil out and wrote a letter to the club saying sign them up. Cheers AT.
